"Should" and "could" are two very different things, and for Ran, at least, the latter is the true one. There's no other choice in her mind that she could possibly make. If she could choose the former, the "should," she'd be inclined to -- to take Shinichi and leave this to higher powers than either of them.

But he'd never allow for it. And so she can't either.

She's listening. And she's scared. But she can't make another choice.

Can't and still live with herself.

It doesn't seem worthwhile, though, to try to assert this any further, and so she doesn't, letting it slip away.

"There's a lot," she murmurs. "But I think I have to start with who you are. I know your name. But I'm not sure I know anything else."
