He gets up onto his knees and strips his hoodie off, then knee-shuffles over to where the kid's sitting. "Put your arms up for me, please?" he asks. If he's obliged, he'll pop that warm, huge hoodie right over Ken's head. If he's not, he'll bundle it up and put it into his arms or lap.
"I can't send you back to where you came from," he says gently. "I'm sorry. I would if I could, but we're all stuck here on this train. And as far as I'm concerned, that means we take care of each other.
"So right now, I'd like to help you take care of yourself, if that's all right. Don't worry about planning ahead or anything, just right here, right now. Can you tell me when the last time you ate or drank anything was?"
