If he says he's a nice person but then starts yelling at someone for no good reason, for example. Or if he promises he isn't going to hurt someone and then he does. I know he said he did bad things in the past and is trying to make up for them, but..."

He was still processing the person in his life who'd done something like that. He'd come back to that thought later.
