Merwen looks at the peach tree thoughtfully, then shakes her head. "No," she says, "it needs the sun overhead. If I can share with it something under it like the branches of the raft to cling to, then a mist of water will do well as rain. I suppose the wood doesn't need to be currently living for it to grow on."

For a moment she considers the planters full of soil. "At home, we would lifeshape the plant so it could thrive where we needed it to be, but if I were home, the question would not be there in the first place."
