So she doesn't have to ask, after all. Then, that... If Kyoko hadn't managed to stop Mami, that's what Madoka and Homura would be facing. Despite the mix of bad emotions Kyoko has about her own death, about dying after promising Mami better... At least -- At least she saved her. At least she saved one of them. At least she was able to protect the only family she has left.
Kyoko opens her mouth, but no sound comes out when she realizes that she reflexively was going to apologize. But there's no way she'd be able to play it off like, sorry you went through that. Not in this context. It'd be too obvious what she'd actually mean by that. Sorry for failing you. Sorry for letting you down.
And those words wouldn't be meant for Madoka, not entirely.
Kyoko closes her mouth. There are things she could ask -- did she die a failure, there, too, and what about Walpurgisnacht, did Sayaka turn into a witch, too -- but she doesn't think it's a good idea, not any of it.
Instead, after an extended moment of silence (for everything that's happened, for everyone they've lost, for being lost in the moment themselves), when she finally finds her voice, Kyoko says, "Man, I'm really starving. Do you have any snacks on you?"
Which... wasn't really planned. She didn't know what was going to come out of her mouth. But maybe neither of them should be surprised.
