Even back in Radiant Garden, elemental resistances hadn't been the norm, especially in those who weren't specifically trained in magic. Granted, he wouldn't be surprised if some bar somewhere had served mildly elementally charged drinks...he'd never been the 'night on the town' sort, after all.
