That...he should have known. There are so many other people here alone, and Persephone is one of them. He should have known-

He feels foolish and weak - that he hadn't realized, and that something she's been handling for so long had so utterly destroyed him. (That the anxiety he had brought with him had been eating away at his stability like acid on skin ever since he'd arrived, undermining what strength he had to begin with, doesn't cross his mind.)

"I-" He pulls the blanket tighter around himself, I don't think I can dying in his throat. Persephone believes in him, and he can't bring himself to contradict that. But then, what can- how can he-

"Can I-" It's a false start - he has to stop and take a breath, and he squeezes his eyes shut. There's no good way to ask this, but-

"Will you promise me something?"

The second the words are out of his mouth, he wants to grab them and hide them. It's asking too much- she doesn't have context- but they're out now, and he can't exactly take them back.
