"I know." If something did happen to Dio, Fate would require another subject with which to revolve the story of suffering around. "But a man of faith, who believes in God and God's Plan is easy to twist to the path of fate's machinations. Gravity has its own wishes, and it will do anything to see those wishes to fruition. If it has decided that it is your role to stand in opposition of Enrico, then it will have arranged your life to learn the skills and gain the abilities needed to do so .... no matter the cost to those around you."

Everyone Enrico knew died because Enrico needed the experiences and powers that resulted. No other reason.

He considers the boy for a long moment, then raises one bloodied talon to gesture slightly. "You don't by chance possess a certain peculiar birthmark, in the shape of a star?"

That really would figure! Yet another Joestar, latched helplessly onto the cycle of tragedy and horror.

There's a slight shake of the head though, as if the answer to that question isn't quite as important as the idea of somehow breaking his plans. That simply wasn't possible! "Even if you succeeded in breaking it, it would simply return to the point of origin. Whenever the path to Heaven began and Enrico claimed my power and legacy. Death is ... temporary, when time itself loops back. If Enrico forged a world without specific people, and the road shattered as you think, then what he forged would be erased as time ground backwards." He leans back, head thumping against the wall, brow furrowed. What a mess. What a terrible.. wretched mess. "It cannot be permanently destroyed, only returned to the beginning to try again. And again, and again... and again. However many times it takes. Striking Enrico down would not prevent it, merely render it out of mortal control. Time would reset. ...And then what? Fate reclaims its prize."

Not an ideal end. "Ah.. I must. Now that I know what fate intends, going back... how can I not?" His smile is brief, a flash of long fangs. "But with what I've learned here to better fight my hated foe. This! This jaunt across entire new worlds.. it's a break and nothing more. I have left before, I have returned, eventually I will leave again. You should seek your return first, and see what has occurred before deciding you wish to stay forever a servant of the Void. Your friends may be waiting. And if not, somehow?"

He spreads bloodied hands. "The train awaits hearts and minds of the right sort. And then will there be be a long whistle in the fog, calling you back."
