"Maybe?" Nell said slowly. "Or at least the beginnings of that ability?" She tried to think back to when she first started being able to influence plants, but it was so long ago that it just seemed she'd always been able to.

"I have to be touching the plant - or really the soil it's growing in to reach it," Nell said. "Mostly anyway. Sometimes just touching the soil lets me connect with any plants growing anywhere nearby."
