"I'll admit that was part of what the Rebellion did; illegally helping those that the Empire was oppressing," Leia said. "But that wasn't and shouldn't be anyone's first choice. Whenever possible, it's better for everyone to operate within the rules. As I said, some of them are necessary and are there to protect everyone involved."

"And regarding your first statement, if you're setting up a mission like that, it's considered your responsibility to make sure you understand and take into account all the relevant laws of the places you'll be working with. Often times, the culture and customs of the places and people you'll be working with need to be considered as well. You can't assume that you automatically know what's best or that you can do whatever you want just because you happen to be in a position to help."

"To use another example from one of my early charitable missions, I was brining a shipment of vaccine to a world in the grips of a plague. A vaccine is a type of medicine that, instead of being given to a sick person to help them get well, is instead given to a healthy person to prevent them from catching a particular disease to begin with; very important in this case, as this plague was often lethal to the children of that species who contracted it. When I met the the people's leader though, they initially refused my help. They thought that by coming in unasked for to try and help them, we were insulting them; indicating that we thought they were weak and that we were arrogant, thinking ourselves better than them."

"I did manage to resolve it and get them to accept the vaccine, but it could have ended badly. And it might not have been an issue at all had I taken the time to understand their culture a bit more before coming in and assuming I knew better."
