He brings out from hammerspace a sword, materialising in his right hand. Steadies his grip on it, looking at the little...floating guy.

"I'm expecting to get knocked back on my butt trying to hit you. 'Kay?"

Tidus won't do anything if Clef makes any remark about that not working. But if there's approval, or some semblance of it, then Tidus will take a light jump back, and then jump at Clef with faster speed - his blade not aimed to strike with a slice, but the wider part of the sword brought more for a thwack.
