"I didn't let myself like 'im too much," he admits. He'd fought it off before it could get there. Siebren was a man who could make him smile back, but he didn't let him become a man that could make his head swim of he sat near him too long. He stole his breath once or twice, made his heart skip a couple of beats, but he never sought him out more than once or twice. He knew better than to let it get real bad.

"But I liked 'im enough. And I saw all the good he did. And I wish it'd been me instead of him."

He stops to just take one of the tennis balls and turn it between his fingers, staring down at it. "Nothin' more than data. Basically I need to list out our departure and arrival records at each stop, includin' people that go gold on our roster. Hopin' to pick up some kinda pattern. If somethin' ever happens to me I need other people to keep up with it. Hell, additional observations wouldn't hurt anyway."
