"Some of us were, anyway." Some were just people with no desire to go home. For most, being a Ravager became a solid way of life. "I keep readin' about displaced people in the library and sometimes I wonder if I could start a new clan out here if I managed to break my tether and leave the ship. But I'm not countin' on that."

He's only dimly hopeful on his own behalf. Judging how they felt about void ghosts wondering around with corpses left behind and living off the remnant of a tether, he didn't have a whole lot of hope for that.

"When you get back home, maybe you oughta see if someone can give people what need a new start a place to go. Even if it's a sorta transient sorta life." Even a nomadic lifestyle with a sense of community is better than nothing.
