A New Platform [Intro Post March]

PLATFORM STOP: MONTH 17
(QUICKSAND)

BEFORE ARRIVAL

"Good morning Voidtreckers, it is day 1 of the month of Quicksand. Points have been updated on the system."

The voice of the Voidtrecker Express welcomes passengers at the same time as always, sometime after breakfast. With points updated, everyone can spend the morning shopping. Most people will be expecting the second announcement that comes a few hours later, as the colours of the void outside the windows blur more and more.

"Shortly arriving into a designated void platform. The weather is cold and damp. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."

A lurch and a jolt, and the windows fill with the fog that means they are at a platform.

ON THE PLATFORM

1. THE ARRIVAL

At first, all your character can see is steam billowing around them as they come to their senses. But as their eyes adjust, they find themselves on a platform.
It is cold, a slush of ice and rain on the ground underneath their feet. It's not currently raining though. The platform is made of black cobbles, slippy under their feet, dark stone gates serving as barriers giving the impression of a severe and grim place.

They stand in clothes not their own, in a style they might not even recognise. They're carrying a rucksack on their person, and for a moment it seems to just be them, alone on this platform. Before the fog starts to subside, and they'll see they're one of eleven figures: all facing the tracks, and all dressed in cargo trousers and hoodies, the latter in one of four colours. Purple, red, blue or orange.

But then there's a roaring sound to get their attention, and out from the fog arrives a train. A sleek black, it it reads The Voidtrecker Express in gold lettering on the side. Every one of the doors hiss as they open automatically, and out pours a strange assortment of people, over a hundred at least. Some are human, some less so, with a majority wearing the same hoodie of four colours as they do, though some sport outfits in a variety of styles.

The train doors close behind them, and the vehicle is cloaked in the same fog that hides the world beyond the platform. A group of people head towards the gates of the platform, their expressions blank and unaffected by their surroundings. Ansem, Connor, Curufin, Elle Days, Freddy Fazbear, Margulis, Murderbot, Potato, Vexen, Will Stanton and Yota They disappear through the barriers, but no one else can - all people can do is wait until the train re-emerges, finishing whatever changes it's making.

2. BOARDING THE TRAIN

After a short time, perhaps ten minutes or so, the fog clears and the doors hiss open again. Everyone will feel a pull when they do, a need to board, and those from the train may encourage new arrivals to board. This feeling grows into one of apprehension and turns worse the longer they stay off-board.

For those that do board, they may find themselves in a few different carriages, but most likely the standard coach. A row of seats sit available, with a few tables between each. More likely than not, some cookies have been set out with jugs of drink, and cups available for pouring.

For those that don't, however, they're likely to attract attention if they're spotted. And if that fails... an unfortunate end will await them.

3. DEPARTURE

Do a little exploring, if you will. But people will have half an hour total from the train's arrival before a second horn sounds, encouraging any stragglers taking advantage of the fresh air to board. After five minutes from this, the doors slide shut. Veteran passengers know what will happen next, but they may wish to brief their new companions.

The train begins to rumble with activity, and the platform starts to disappear into a fog as the voidcraft moves. A female-coded artificial voice echoes throughout the train.

"Welcome aboard, passengers of the Voidtrecker Express. Please take the time to read the passenger information displayed on the Information and Communication points, and familiarise yourself with the layout and emergency exits."

The train begins to tilt, leaving the ground and rising up into the fog-filled sky.

"Entrance into Voidspace imminent. New passengers are advised to remain seated. Entry into Voidspace in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."

A shudder, a jolt, a lurch to the left. A flash of light, colourful and blinding. As quick as it happens it is done. The train seems to steady itself. The fog from the windows is gone now, replaced with a kaleidoscope of ever-changing colours.

Welcome to the Void.

ON THE TRAIN

1. EXPLORING

With nowhere to go but through the train's carriages, this is a good time for newcomers to explore. For veterans, it's back to your everyday life aboard the Voidtrecker Express.

¤ New arrivals will notice a screen and console in every carriage sharing the same message, and a stack of leaflets in holders by them offering further information to the curious (see 'Publications'). There are lavatories available on each carriage on one end, with another console with a deposit box under it at the other. This is the train shop.

¤ It'll take some time for newbies to figure out the layout, even if there's only two directions to go in. Go one end, and you'll find the food stores and washing utilities. This month's key ingredient is pineapple, and you're sure to bump into others curious about what's in the stock.

¤ Go to the other end, and you'll find the sleeper cabins. Plaques sit on the wall by each door with the names of their occupants, and one of these will be yours - hopefully, they'll figure out that swiping their ticket against the doorpad will open it up to them. In most rooms, the occupied beds are obvious, leaving the spotless, empty spaces for the newcomers. Room is tight, but there are storage cubbies at the head of each bed, beds fold up and, the bottom bunks double as benches for the small table. There is storage under those benches full of spare blankets and pillows.

¤ At the farthest end in this direction is the luggage carriage, where passengers who have bought items from the train shop will find their purchases. There are also medical kits for every one, each labelled with their full roster name. These are scattered around the luggage carriage in various suitcases and bags, but there's also a small fridge and kettle here with bottled water, for those who want a quiet drink.

For those of Purple team who go looking for their reward they will find simple boxes of cupcakes to share out. There's a cupcake for all of purple team, even the new arrivals, share in your new team's success!

2. ACTIVITIES

But of course, there's also everything in-between those two directions, and the people in them.

¤ Areas of note will be the training gym, where there's always regulars training to pass the time. There's a training board offering services, but maybe you'll find someone who catches your eye in here. Or even its gear?

¤ Is your character used to the appliances to be found in the kitchen? Depending on when your character wanders in, they may find someone testing out a recipe, preparing for lunch, or even dinner time.

¤ The library offers a quiet place, with a fair selection of books from fiction to non-fiction. Is your character interested in learning more about the void? Picking up an action or adventure book? Wow, there sure are a few magazines.

¤ There's also media to consume, from the games car, the cinema, to the arts carriage. Ever played a virtual reality game? Wanted to learn how to fly? Have you seen a screen of moving pictures? There's now documentaries to be found in the cinema's catalogues, from How To programming, Void-related topics, and sports.

3. REST AND SLEEP

¤ Time is difficult to track in the void, even with the few clocks around showing a 21 hour time. But the windows allowing a view of the kalediscope void will shift to a pitch black once the time reaches 12, and keep for the rest of the day.

¤ Breakfast, lunch, and dinner time is usually announced by whoever's cooking that day, and when. Sometimes it's decided by the team chores; other times, it's decided by who wants to be cooking.

¤ But sleep eventually comes to all, even if they don't want it to. When 21 hours have finally passed on the train, all passengers, whether they need sleep or not, will see black - only to start a new day in their cabin beds, with the sound of the train's automated voice greeting them with a 'Good morning' message.

"N-No, I like them!" Madoka responds - rather quickly, still seeming kind of skittish. It's not truly the man's fault though, considering that it does seem like he's working pretty hard here to not scare her off. It's just that Madoka is an easily startled girl in general.. especially around people who look a little more intimidating than the norm.

But it's not like she's running off yet either, so she's probably trying hard on her end as well. Instead she just shakes her head.

"They suit you."

Black and red are more tough-looking colours after all, right? Especially when used in combination, Madoka thinks.

"I just tend to use different colours.. But I guess those suits me more." You know. Pink. Pastels. It's not hard to guess what colours the girl likes, just by looking at her. "B-But if you'd want more variation.. You could maybe use a dark blue sometime too? I don't think that'd look too bad on you either, sir."

Honestly, with all the firepower that was at Night Raven the chance of the school just not being there was a real possibility... If Malleus ever overblotted... well, Idia's just glad he's not there to have to deal with it anymore. It would be so much of a mess. At least all the other incidents of it had been controlled within a limited space and didn't spill out to the rest of the school.

Tidus had a point, the issue with that though, "Unless we got the tech to look into it, there's not a lot we can do right now." It's sighed out, Idia considering what he could do if he had access to STYX tech here, and just what he would find with studying their souls. "I would need a lot of tech brought here from my world, and a space to set it up." It would be so much work...

Um. If you want. I don't want to intrude. [Would Gen even want him to join? Taiki knows he isn't very good company right now. Really he had only stopped because of the small critter, he had been intrigued.

But he owed Senku for his help back on Tai, so he doesn't want to scorn his invitation either, he likes spending time with Senku and Gen...]

Then I'd better not hear a rumbling stomach.

[ He feeds Kubfu anyway. Young Pokémon definitely need their energy, and Snapper crawls up for her snack too. He pets her, thinking things over a moment before he looks back to Yugi. ]

The last void incident, right? Sorry if you tried to tell me what happened before---I could barely stay awake. But I'm ready now if you want me.

You wouldn't be. [ He assures him with a shake of a head. He and Gen didn't always eat alone after all, in fact at home that was seldom a luxury and it wasn't like they needed privacy for any reason. ]

Sure, that sounds alright. Well...I was thinking curry. [ He flicks his wrist and blinks when nothing happens. He flicks it again. ]

Okay, seems I'm out of curry powder. I'll have to remember to order some spices again, it's been awhile. We could do ramen though, if we keep the broth vegan.

What?

[ He isn't aware of the whole picture so his judgment can only go so far. Still, Roland's in no position to pretend like Senku's state of world didn't affect him. When he realized what the train was doing, whether by design or malfunction of tether, he truly expected to return to his original world too. He functioned on the only string of hope he has to his name; that according to the ministry, his return would signal the rebirth of his kingdom. His country.

Was Senku's home turning to stone an isolated incident, or did it imply something more sinister for them all? ]

I...didn't know that was even possible. [ Roland's tether occurred out of sight, far from Evermore, far from Earth. Capturing him somewhere in between. There's no way he could have ever met the 'him' that stayed behind. Though if one were to count soulmates, then yes he did in fact, meet himself. Messy business, tethers and souls. ] So much for a warm welcome. I'm sorry that was what you came home to. Truly. [ He offers that sincerely, as his voice dips just an octave lower. ] What's your solution?

Genjo Sanzo | Saiyuki | Purple Team

[personal profile] smithandwesson 2022-03-05 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
ARRIVAL

[Sanzo was not unaccustomed to the sensation of half-melted ice around his feet and barely visible surroundings. He spent too much of his time these days exploring the snowy piques of some of the world's highest mountains.

No. It wasn't that part that threw Sanzo off, but instead the strange new clothes, which were not at all his traditional robes. As much as he was partial to purple, hoodies were not entirely his taste. His eyes then focused on the unfamiliar cobblestones beneath his feet before finally looking up to realize he wasn't alone.

And this most certainly wasn't a Buddhist Temple nestled along the Himilayan mountains. No. This location was someplace different. Somewhere he was not supposed to be.

He did not seem to be along the Indian border, and he was nowhere near his intended location.

The panic was visible in his eyes with the realization. His head-turning quickly as the doors to the strange train opened before him. Watching in bewilderment as people and creatures of all types slowly left the train without a word and disappeared beyond a large gate.

Was he dreaming?

It was only at that point that he heard a voice. His shoulders went slack as he noticed someone lingering along with the train's doorway. The strange urge to move forward took hold of him as he made stern eye contact with the person who caught his attention.
]

Hey... Are you calling out to me?

Exploration

[Sanzo could not understand why it was that he boarded this stupid train. Indeed it wasn't going to the western regions of India. Truthfully he had no idea where it was heading at all.

Instead, he stood there transfixed, looking somewhat agitated as he found himself messing around and trying to figure out the carriages' console. He was poking around with his eyes squinted, very much looking more like an older man who never before worked a touch-screen than a youthful new resident.

At least, he was trying to.

But his teeth gritted as he heard the chattering of people standing behind him. Scowling under his breath before he gave up and quickly turned to face them.
]

Oy. Are you messing with me?

Don't lie to me. I keep hearing your stupid voice. It's annoying and you need to knock it off.

[Despite the aggravation in his tone, he turned from the console screen and marched up to his new conversation buddy. Offering out his hand despite the contradictive expression he held.]

So... I'm taking you with me.... But only because I have to.

[The authentic Genjo Sanzo way of asking for help figuring this place out.

With threats.
]

Activities

[Perhaps the training gym was not as sound of a place to nap meditate as Sanzo had initially thought. When he had first gone in, it was relatively empty and quiet. And he was able to find the floor mats quickly enough.

He had even managed to find the time to lay one of them on the floor. Sitting down, he crossed his legs, closed his eyes, and placed his upon his knees as he found himself zoning out into a peaceful state of bliss.

And then someone else just happened to walk into the cabin.

And even worse, it seems their way of training wasn't as quiet or peaceful as his.

He tried to deal with it at first. But the more his training room partner continued, the more he felt his eyebrow twitch and his temple pulse. Gritting his teeth as he did his best to keep his concentration.

His concentration lasted a whole two seconds.
]

SHUT IT!!

[Screaming out in full force, Sanzo stood up, reached into his hoodie pocket, and proceeded to walk up to his cabin-mate and attempt to smack them across the back of the head with his notebook.]

Jeez... This much screaming from someone who can't pay attention to their surroundings if they tried.

[With that, he relaxed his stance, running his hand through his hair as he sighed out with the disappointed tone of a parent taming an unruly child.]

REST

[Sanzo was pretty confident he was beginning to get the hang of what was going upon the Voidtrecker Express when suddenly everything had blacked out on him.

The next thing he realized, he awoke with a startling jolt. The pitch-black windows outside now show the kaleidoscopic colors that were there earlier in the day.

Was... Was it the next day?

Sitting up from his cot in Cabin E Upper 3, he looked around only to find his rucksack sitting peacefully beside the base of his bed. Eyes focused on his surroundings enough to realize that he wasn't alone.

What the hell?
]

No, this is just annoying!

[Did someone drag him here against his will? How did he get here? Who touched his stuff?

His scripture.

Did someone touch his scripture!?

Digging through his bag in a panic, he realized he couldn't find it. Only to catch the familiar font in the corner of his eye to notice it draped over his shoulders as his head began to clear from the dizzy sensation of just waking up.

Causing him to sit back onto his cot once more with a thud. Sighing heavily, his face buried into his hands in an attempt to deal with the bullshittery that was going on all around him.

Just how many times was he going to find himself in new places he didn't remember falling asleep in?

[ Don't worry, Rannygazoo has taken it upon himself and his many little ones to accommodate his good friend, hauling him up at the same time Tidus gets back on his feet. Together, they make use of the space within the carriage, roughhousing and playing in the fountain. Other higgledies just run around in circles, while a select few hover nearby, idling the day away. ]

You thought of pancakes and got teleported to me? Finally. I've graduated from 'old man' at long last. Heh. Smoothly, he nudges them back to the bench, his hand already dipping into one of his belt pouches for a fresh tin of soreaway salve prepared to perfection. Thanks for the tip, Thestis. ]

Well, now that you are here- [ There's a gentle sort of attempt from his end to apply the balm to Tidus's cheek, removing one glove from his hand so bare fingers can apply it directly unto the skin. ] -tell me more about why pancakes were occupying your mind. From what I gather, at least from speaking to Nell, my non-travelling self was likely in a coma, as her body was as well. All the same, there was nothing I could do about that, since it's petrified and I didn't have what I needed.

[ He sighs a little bit. Tidus helped him try, but it got him nowhere. ]

Gen encountered the same thing. So...something must have happened in our absence that might've meant to happen. I don't know about that yet.

[ He hums a little bit. ]

Obviously to make my revival fluid for me and everyone else again, but I think that if this has made my tether unviable, that would make things complicated. I don't know how yet. Not enough information. But I'll make sure to bring some nitric acid back if I get another chance to return.

You wish. [ Slipped in, at the belief of an upgrade - there will never be an upgrade from old man, old man! Especially not when Roland is going straight into old man mode right there, though Tidus doesn't realise until the fingers come up. A small 'really?', something embarrassed and sulky (don't you think he couldn't do this himself?), but he won't fuss more than that.

He's definitely going to be look to the side though. Pah! Treat him like a kid!! ]

Those're a thing? --I'm thinking about taking the breakfast shift and a dinner slot. For chores - y'know. Just feel like giving it a go. [ You know, no big deal. ] I was wondering if you wanted to make pancakes with me.

We can make some flapjacks too though. I don't know a lot about pineapple, 'cept what's in some books.

Understanding that they were denied elsewhere, but now? Now they have a chance to build upon it -- it isn't her place to forgive him of the harm he has done over the ages; but she can welcome him into her life with open arms, with acceptance and that same understanding. Would she have done differently?

Pahja thanks the Twelve that she would never have to find out.

She sits on one of the beds, reaching out to pull Emet down next to her -- they need not spend their time standing around when she knows that his preferred position is prone and napping. His rest she can't help, but she can indulge a little of his laziness.

"Perhaps it's simply the whims of this place. Though I do hate to think that I am helpless in the face of it," she muses, chewing on her lip in annoyance. Pahja doesn't do helpless, and certainly not in the face of overwhelming odds. Emet's thoughts make a brow quirk, turning slightly to give him a better, more inquisitive look. "Oh? Friends of yours, perhaps?"

His soulsight will surely tell him. Though Pahja isn't certain if she should be concerned about any he recognizes.

Koumyou is among the last to step off the train when it nudges everyone off for its customary little me-time at platform. He's pulling on his thick, warm, cream-colored cloak and pulling up the huge, deep hood when something...

Registers.

It's impressive that he stops and starts looking around even before he can start whining to the world at large about how it's cooooold out here, and ew it's cold and wet!!

Something...

"The Maten," Koumyou murmurs to himself. And if the Maten is here, pinging his spiritual radar like it is, that means...

Pushing through the crowd of fellow passengers, Koumyou spots familiar golden hair. And then he gets a little closer and registers the fact that Genjo Sanzo is in a train uniform.

"...Kouryuu?!" It's not his first time seeing his boy all grown up, but it's definitely new to see him as a new passenger of the train itself. The only other time had been while on a mission!

"Do you even like it? I mean, you can always try other stuff too if this turns out boring."

It's just a thought, maybe one he doesn't need to go anywhere with, but he does. Did Xue Yang find it interesting? There wasn't much point if he didn't. He shows he can grow a few plants, and then what?

What's actually needed is a hobby.

"Teams," he mutters. He hasn't looked in the pack he got here wearing yet. Might have some shirts in that same weird style in it. He bets they're purple. Like some of the bedding was in there, he remembers. And some of the bedding was red. Orange, purple, red. Great. Be great if that actually meant something, but great. Fine. "I don't want to, um. Keep you," he says, hearing his awkward, polite tone and wondering at it, at being polite at a time like this. But the other guy's just acting like all this is normal, a normal conversation, so what else is he going to do? "I'm just gonna..."

He gestures vaguely and, he realises, meaninglessly, back down the corridor behind him, then reaches up to help himself free his other hand. Look around. He's going to look around. There has to be something here that's going to mean anything, or even just something he actually recognises. "Thanks for not, uh. Cutting the crap out of my face, or whatever."

Sir. He could tell her he's not a sir, at least not the way she's using it; usually the only people outside the loose, informal hierarchy of his own crew who use something close to the term are using it sarcastically, and even a lot his guys usually just call him chief, or sometimes 'you big bastard'. Not really the kind of nicknames that he can suggest here, and besides, maybe the formality is steadying her. He knows all about that. Nice to have those kinds of rules between you and the rest of the world. Would be nice to have some of that himself right now, but formality's never been part of The Iron Bull's whole thing, wouldn't come off right on him. Better to focus on what he can do, on whether he's close enough to being back on his game that he can convince a shy kid like this that he's not actually dangerous.

So the Bull nods, keeping his body language relaxed, feels the homemade eyepatch start to slide as he does and hurriedly tugs on the ends of the gauze, trying to adjust it the right way before he knots it up. "Dark blue. I can do that. Any particular design you like, or just the blue? Could always just do my horns again on the other side too but, you know, painting them on me twice would start to feel like bragging."

His grin isn't quite as faint as his smile had been, which feels like progress. Maybe this expression's enough to make the statement into a joke on himself and his own urge to brag, keep things light. Bragging's always been an easy way to do that, as long as he does it the right way.

Art Car- Everyone's an art critic

It's was a good time as any to try out this 'art' thing that he had been watching others do since this new carriage appeared. It looked easy enough when watching, users would use one of the 'pencils' from their kit and assemble lines until a form would be created. Same as any architectural assembly schematics. Glitch, he's even seen ISO's do this!

What Faux found though is that it's not as easy to translate here as he had initially thought. It's like something is missing.

It's supposed to be the rabbit Yota and he had found. And he supposes it... sorta looks like it, maybe? As he finishes the last of his lines; scribbles really; he stops. Pressing the pencil to his lips in thought, he remembers what else some of the users here had done to finish their works. Their name. Pushing the pencil to the paper, he can visualize how to spell it, but he just can't seem to figure out how the lines go.

With so much concentration dedicated to this last task, he fails to hear one of his crew mates come up behind him.

Garden Carriage- Meditation on numbers

Given everything that has occurred since coming here, a quick assessment of his code integrity is in order. Faux positions himself in the garden carriage, slouching out of the way and not making it too obvious of a glowing interface projected in front of him, coming from his disk in hand.

If one were to come closer they would see clearer details of some events already passed from a distinct perspective, and Faux's finger plucking through the hologram, moving it along, then centering on a chunk of 1s and 0s.

With a frown, he quietly mutters, "Can't believe I'm saying this, but man do I miss being able to visit a recompiler."

Train-Caught

As per the routine, Faux may perform part of his rounds unseen. That is to say, invisible. Mostly to keep practice, mostly. Other times because it's far easier to procure data on particular users and assess them at the moment without having the user's aware. Unfortunately, not this time. Random chance is something he's always had to contend with. User systems though are positively chaotic!

Curiosity gets the best of him, blowing his cover. A crew mate has noticed!

A painfully awkward smile later, "On my honor as a user abiding program, I was not spying on you."

[Wildcard]

Something else? Something I've forgot and you want to stick it in somewhere? Fire away!

"He's a powerful sorcerer," Zelgadis said. "And older than he looks. I never could beat him. I'm not sure how I feel about people I like getting hurt on my account."

It's been a while since he's had people he likes that were stepping in danger for him. Normally, it's the other way around, once he started actually trusting people after Zolf and Rodimus.

"Most of the train knows I used to be a chimera, or at least they know I wasn't human when I boarded."

Funny, that was getting less and less true as more people arrived and departed. Which was weird. But Inigo was present before that.

"I was born human. Rezo," gesturing to indicate the person who had provoked the reaction, "was the one who transformed me."

There's more, but that's the personal bit. There were beings back home that could provoke the 'oh shit' response, but mostly out of 'we are all going to die horribly unless the train has safeguards I don't know about'.

(Come to think of it, Rezo may also fall in that category, depending on the place in his life that the train grabbed him.)

(Oh, crap, is he going to actually have to talk to Rezo and check?)

"No. You're not the first person to arrive after dying in their world. Or possibly as they are dying."

Which meant the piece of Shabranigdu may be here or it may actually have been destroyed for good this time. Zelgadis knows which one everyone on the train would prefer if they knew about it.

That statement is like a sword through his heart. He knows what it is like to have his world turned upside down in a matter of minutes. To lose the one person he had walked alongside for years because of his own mistakes. And then to be able to be with that person again on the train was an unexpected turn of fate. Except...that was also torn away from him. He was tired of feeling loss.

He snorts softly at the last thing the man says, "Are we really better all crammed into this one long box as it toys with our emotions every week?" Whether through losing people on the platform or through the mental and physical turmoil that some of the missions bring them.

A-Allen?

[ Uh, hey there, buddy? It's the loud thump that distracts Tidus from the balancing beams he's been messing with, seeing the sight of Allen and...the wall? And the way he's holding his hand.

How did that happen? He's coming on over, concern mixed with confusion. ]

You, uh, okay?

"Hm." She hummed softly, surprised but not judgemental. Given the variety of worlds there seemed to be, it stood to reason that some may have humans more long-lived. His explanation certainly helped her understand the how and why better, too.

"Sounds almost akin to my own people." She said, propping her elbow on the arm rest and her chin in her palm. "Such strong attunements to magical energies can certainly have interesting effects."
