Ah. They...we don't know what happens to them. At least, we can't confirm anything about what happens when people leave like that. What we do know is that our tethers are unstable because of how we were brought here, and their tethers were probably unable to keep them here.

Sometimes people who left come back again, but they may or may not remember their past time on the train, and no one who left and came back remembers what happened between leaving and returning. Most don't come back at all, though.
