There's a lot of possibilities here. But one thing seems certain; K'zeka is at least telling the truth about the quality of the food's nutritional value. Whatever else might be up with this unsolicited generosity, Elidibus can't ignore this would help him.

In exchange he won't ask why the miqo'te did get the bread. There will even be gratitude; before a bite is taken.

"Then you've my thanks for sparing a piece." A piece, as it turns out, that has some butter spread on top of it as it seems K'zeka isn't wholly cruel in his pranks. After another moment's contemplation, which may well be philosophical in nature, the Ascian takes a bite that's neither cautious nor generous.

Ah. Elidibus is careful to keep his expression neutral. To be honest he probably wouldn't have cared about how the body's senses respond to this... unique taste if he'd only just arrived on the train. But he's had time to appreciate or at least get used to the benefits of pleasant taste.

The Ascian chews and swallows before fixing K'zeka with a long look. "Should I believe you've tasted this yourself already?" That might explain the presence of the pity-butter.
