Spring Garden Preparations
Who: Elidibus, OTA
Where: Various, Rock Garden for landscape setup.
When: Evening, Quicksand 13 to Quicksand 15
What: Events leading to the Spring Garden Days Quicksand 16 (Platform Day) to Quicksand 18
Warnings: There's no particular warnings other than the possibility of individual character spoilers.
[An announcement over the intercoms goes throughout the train on the evening of Quicksand 13, after everyone's settled post-mission.]
Good day, this is Elidibus. Some of you may recall the brief transformation of the rock garden into a winter day several platforms ago. This coming platform I'm looking to arrange for a spring season change to the same carriage. Last time was a little spontaneous and short notice. This time I would like to ask for help.
One of the major changes is this will last for three days, including the Platform Day. During that time, those willing to help maintain the spring garden will be welcome. Whether by manual labor, organization, a special talent or other contributions. [After all the carriage is only so large and traffic may be regular.] Like last time, the climate, weather and soil will be present, but I'd like to ask some of those talented with the fast growth of plants and trees to lend assistance. Anyone familiar with planning the layout of a seasonal garden in a relatively small space would also be appreciated.
Those who might be interested in preparing food fit for picnic meals, I would like to ask for your help. Though I have a general concept for this seasonal garden event, I would ask you to bring any ideas you have to me. What I've observed on my star may differ from others and anyone should feel welcome to add their ideas. I may also approach some of you but there is no obligation to agree to my requests.
[This is announced over the intercoms. But there will also be signs posted near the public ICPs in each carriage or in a proper obvious place with this message printed on it.
Questions and the OOC prep links!]

[ Someone bumping a table for example. ]
But since it will overlap new arrivals, it is best to be a bit cautious.
[ Which is certainly another reason for the protection to be a little better than safety from a short tumble to the floor. When old foes meet on the train things can get dicey. ]

[ It's like Inigo is trying to reassure himself a little with the way he's saying those words. Like he has to believe that things will be okay, so he won't spend the rest of the days until the platform day - and the platform day itself - doing nothing but fussing over his flowers. ]
.. and if they're going to pick some sort of huge fight, I like to imagine they'd at least do that on the platform, rather than here in a cutely decored spring carriage. [ He gestures at some paper bunny decorations someone has already been putting up, probably as an example of said cuteness. ]

[Elidibus is in agreement. Of course what he doesn't say at all is that he had been actively dipping in and out of the Snow Day garden a month or so back because he was avoiding someone actively hunting him for conflict. But this wouldn't ease Inigo's mind so he doesn't say it.]
Think of it assurance to you. Anything that could reasonably be expected happen in this carriage during its transformation will be prevented. Even to a point beyond what would be expected.
[After saying such a thing, Elidibus does add something.]
The ward will last for a while if left unbroken. Pray let me know if you want it removed after your plants have been returned to where you keep them.
no subject
Of course. I'm going to put them back right away once everyone is done with the spring carriage.
[ Lest something happens to his plants by being here unattended even for a single moment! ]
They're just here to make everything look a bit cheerier for a day.
no subject
Yes. In three days, we'll return the garden to how it was. I appreciate your contribution to the garden.
[Elidibus studies one of the nearby pots for a moment, thoughtfully.]
This one is from one of the worlds we've visited, is it not? Do you often collect them?
[The Ascian does sound curious. Well it's not as if he'd ever pried into Inigo's hobbies. You know. Except the one about the D word. And we know how that went.]
no subject
[ Thankfully this particular hobby seems to be a whole lot less sensitive than the one that starts with a D.. after all, Inigo isn't shrieking about it. Yet. Nor is he blushing.
If anything, he's about as casual as Inigo can be when he nods in response to that question. ]
Not always. [ If not just because they've sure visited some worlds where flowers were uncommon, if not just totally absent.. ] But.. you know. When I have time for it. I like preserving the beauty of all those worlds this way.
[ Keeping a piece of said worlds with them, even here on the train. ]
no subject
[For that matter, some worlds would have flora too dangerous to bring back. Probably.]
Still I'm impressed at the collection you have. [And there's even the chance there's more Inigo couldn't bring out for one reason or another.] I don't remember if I asked, but have you been on the train a long time?
no subject
It's not a huge shift, but definitely noticeable, especially if the other is watching him. Inigo's expression turns a little bit more wry, even though he's still smiling. ]
Oh, yeah.
[ He sure has been. ]
I'm not one of the first people who showed up on the train out of our current crew, but.. I guess I'm also not too far off. I think I might be missing a month or so on the people who have been here the longest. [ Which means it's been a long, long time by now. Well over a year. Hence the wryness in his smile, especially considering all the memories between showing up on the train and now. ]
I've seen a whole lot of people come and go at this point.
no subject
Despite our circumstances. [ He speaks up after a pause for thought. ] It's important to remember what happened. Perhaps it's not where we wish to be and the future is very uncertain. But to know that not all was terrible.
[ He doesn't appear to be lecturing. It's more like he's speaking as much about himself; though not necessarily just his time on the train. ]
no subject
It's hard to forget anything anyway.
[ Granted, that's more him speaking from his position. Perhaps it's easier for Elidibus to forget things - given what he is, and how much he has already experienced during his long, long life. Inigo only has about 18 years or so in comparison. ]
.. both the good and the bad. [ Especially the bad. He keeps finding the thoughts coming to him all the time, especially here on the train. ] But it's not like we can just forget the people who left. We need to save them before we all go home.
Aaah I've lost the text for this three times.
Memories are oft easier lost than you'd believe. And many times it's only when someone else brings your attention to it that you realize another is missing.
[But he shakes his head soon after and refocuses on the present.]
Is that why you stayed? To find the others who went missing?
[It seems just a question. Elidibus doesn't sound defensive nor judgmental over the idea. He'd made his own choice based on what he saw as his duty. And he would not blame Inigo for doing the same.]
no subject
[ Apparently Inigo is pretty firm in that choice. He didn't even seem like he had to consider that question, not even for a moment.
After all, he didn't really have to think about it back when the option was being offered to them earlier. This much had been totally natural to him. ]
It's not like I can just go off when there are people potentially suffering out there, or who are at the very least lost. I'd never forgive myself.
[ One can say a whole lot of things about Inigo, but he's truly got his heart and his morals in the right place. There seems to be some sort of unwavering belief hanging over his words. ]
