[unfortunately(?), it's just how things go aboard the voidtrecker express and after it happens enough times, one gets used to things being rearranged here or there. thank goodness, it's only been the cabins, meaning they needn't worry about relearning the whole entirety of the train because it decided to switch things up on everyone and really confuse them. time moving at a different pace here contributes to such things too, but it's another circumstance that lan sizhui's grown used to during his time here.
he does hear that tail moving though has been doing better about not acknowledging it or jin ling's ears outright in case it embarrasses him. maybe, if his emotions weren't so all over the place, he would be sporting some new kind of appendage, practicing his shapeshifting powers even outside of gym training and missions, but he doesn't quite trust himself to have full control right now, which means he's concerned with changing into full-on rabbit form like he'd done with his dads some months ago, where wei wuxian eventually ended up finding him stowed away in the greenhouse carriage. it's lucky jin ling's okami isn't teasing him about the loss, proving that he may actually have some sympathy somewhere in that wolf heart of his to at least understand the boy's suffering.
sizhui, however, doesn't waste any time crowding into jin ling's space and, for all intents and purposes, partially forcing his way into his friend's bunk whenever there might be a chance he's not wanted. (sorry, not sorry, pal, he's gotten pretty good at this by now—)
having fairy yipe like that all of a sudden has sizhui withdrawing halfway, his brow knitted with worry as he murmurs,] Oh no, I'm sorry, Fairy! I didn't hurt you, did I? [no inquiry or apology for jin ling, since he's assuming the other teenager is durable enough to take it, but if jin ling puts up enough of a fuss... well, he'll apologize to him too. as it stands, he seems more content to bury his face into his dog's fur and question sizhui's emotional state instead, which isn't difficult to decipher, yet proves much harder to answer than he wants.
nevertheless, he exhales a slow, measured sigh and admits,] No, I'm not. It's part of why I wanted to see you. [so they could mourn their losses together (and with fairy) in hopes it'd ease some of the heartache.
upset or not, how's he supposed to resist softly laughing after fairy licks his nose? while it's not much of a sound and his smile doesn't quite reach his eyes, that doesn't keep him from loosening his arm from around the spiritual beast, pausing momentarily to pet her ears in gratitude.] Awww, thank you...
