Voidtreckers. I have picked up a catastrophe mission coming from system #78961112094711. Voidtreckers have urged me to be open with you all these last months and so I shall be transparent. The readings coming from this catastrophe are very unusual and I cannot determine the threats. Indeed there do not seem to be any threats in the system that would result in a catastrophe level mission.

This has been encountered before, in the Month of Egret on system #27462947582. This voidcraft was unable to ascertain the threats that could lead to a catastrophe. Known risks were calculated and mission goals created, but the Voidtreckers were put in unnecessary danger from the world destroyers.

From the data available it is not unreasonable to believe that the catastrophe facing #78961112094711 comes from the world destroyers. We still have little information. We do not have any way to stop the destroyers. However we have advantages that Voidtreckers did not have in the month of Egret.

We know what is coming. System #78961112094711 is Void Active. Voidtreckers have allies there. Saving the system is not possible but with five hours it is possible that many many lives could be saved by evacuating them to the void.

This voidcraft is sending a forward message to the ministry stationed on System #78961112094711. Due to the nature of arriving at catastrophe missions they will receive it not long before we arrive. But it should mean they are ready for us. This voidcraft has calculated mission goals to help voidtreckers organise but it should be noted that the most important goal is to save as many lives as possible.

The announcement comes out of the blue on day twenty four of the month of Quicksand. Not too long after breakfast when people are getting on with chores or other morning activities.

It is followed quickly by a holographic message setting out their team goals. They do not have all that much time before arrival, an hour or so to be prepared for the huge task ahead of them. The dressing carriage is open with warm coats, hats and other team-coordinated winter accessories.

How to prepare for such a challenge? It's going to be a very difficult day.

Getting the Message

[Masumi's outburst may not have been directed at the tall man who is now looming over her, but as evidenced by, well, the tall man who is now looming over her, it has certainly caught Rezo's attention regardless.]

Do you recognize this threat?

[Masumi startles slightly when Rezo speaks, but she's quick to explain what's going on with the world destroyers.]

Yes, they're things that show up and destroy entire systems. I wasn't here for the last mission that involved them, but during a different mission a survivor of the world destroyers showed me what they did to his world. They show up all at once, just dark shapes in the sky, and then they just...destroy everything. The whole system, all at once. Gone.

[Needless to say, they probably can't stop the destroyers once they show up.]

So they’re a known entity. [Pause.] Well, somewhat. And that’s all we know? That they somehow can erase entire worlds?

[He can accept that the void treckers don't have the resources to fight something that powerful, but the ominous lack of detail is frustrating.]

Yes, they can just erase entire worlds. I'm not sure how they do it, but they do. From what I was shown in the memory, they showed up all at once in the sky, there was just enough time for people to panic, then everything went dark.[She goes quiet, thinking.]

Besides the world that was destroyed in Egret, they also destroyed a world called Diagad and the train's home system. Other than that, we don't know all that much about them yet.

[It's deeply frustrating to not know exactly what the threat is beyond 'world destroyers', or how to stop them from destroying whole worlds.]

[Huh. If he was in that situation, he probably wouldn't even notice before he died. Well, except for the fact other people would be panicking.]

Hm. [He doesn’t bother remarking on how troubling this all is because that honestly goes without saying. But after a moment of brooding, he does say:] Do we know anything about the world we’re heading for? It does not sound as if we'll have much time to study the layout of the land.

Osiga? We were invited there a few months ago by a voidscout named Anan to see a local festival. We didn't explore much of the world at the time since we were there for a break, mostly just a city called the Irue Grotto.

It was pretty cold there when we last went, with freezing snow, but at the time Osiga was only just ending a month long night, so I assume it'll be a bit warmer now.

[Not by much though, since they're being given warm clothes for the mission.]

[City is promising, implying there will be roads and locals who care to maintain them; freezing snow is less so.]

The climate could make evacuation difficult. We’ll need to ensure none of the citizens are endangered by the cold during the process, and keep the ice or snow from slowing travel down. Though, the locals will likely be more prepared to deal with such conditions than we are.

Yeah, they'll know how to handle their own world. It's us who might have trouble getting around, depending on what the weather's like right now.

[She hopes there'll be help for getting around as fast as possible.]

I'm more worried about convincing the locals, since the world destroyers probably won't show up until the end. There's bound to be people who won't believe the story, especially since the Ministry didn't even know about the world destroyers until recently.

[There's got to be people who'll be harder to convince about the coming threat.]

To be honest, I find it hard to believe myself.

[He’s heard of these world destroyers, but only via a library book that had sounded like a bunch of paranoid ramblings, to suddenly hear about all this in-person is… a lot.]

I will carry out our mission, of course, but if I hadn’t had several recent unbelievable experiences under my belt… [He sighs.]

Well, I’m sure there will be things we can do, even for the people who won’t cooperate.

It is. If we didn't have witnesses to what they do, I might not have listened either.

[She's seen that book too. Reads like a conspiracy theory, but now she wants to meet the author for info on these things, if possible.]

Well, I suppose we'll all be doing our best to save these people even if they won't listen.
