A New Platform [Intro Post April!]

On the Train

Two days after they return from their mission they are awoken as usual "Good morning passengers, it is day sixteen of the month of Egret. The shop has been updated and points have been applied to passengers tickets."

Those that go to check the shop terminals will find they have indeed updated, with the option to buy larger items and also animals. The morning goes on until just after noon there is a second announcement.

"Shortly arriving into a designated void platform. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one." A lurch and a jolt and they are soon surrounded by the fog that means they are at a platform. Though the fog is thick, thicker than usual perhaps, there are patches on sunlight shining through and it is pleasantly warm.

The doors open and the first few to disembark do so with rucksacks on, hoods pulled up, silent and almost blank faced. Cu Chulain, Dio Brando, Disreputable Dog, Heiji Hattori, Loki Maedhros, Maglor, Naruto, Thor, Tobias Fangor.

They walk to the barriers, show their tickets and disappear.

But on the platform itself there are once again new faces. All are stood, waiting for the train.

For New Passengers

At first all they can see is steam. Billowing around them as they come to their senses. They are standing, in clothes that are not their own, styles they might not even recognise. They are carrying a rucksack on their back. For a moment it seems to just be them, alone in the white haze but then as people begin to shift or call out it will become apparent they are not alone.

The platform is not large and it holds eighteen figures all facing the tracks, all dressed in cargo trousers and hoodies. It's warm but foggy making it hard to see much, but there are clearer patches bathed in sunlight found across the platform. Both left and right the tracks disappear into the mist. Then there is a roaring sound and out of the fog arrives a train. Jet black with gold writing on the side. The Voidtrecker Express. There is a hiss as the doors slide open and out into the cold step a selection of people. Some are human, some are less so. They are wearing the same hoodie in one of the four colours, red, orange, blue and purple.

The Train

The doors hiss open. Those from the train may encourage those on the platform to board. It’s not like there is anywhere else to go and even if there was, you feel a pull. A need to board, a feeling that staying on the platform would not be a good thing. If that is not enough, there are plenty of people on the platform now, to encourage them onto the train.

Each ICP shows the same message and next to the screens there are stacks of leaflets written by those on the train, with further information. The store rooms have been restocked with an abundance of onions, in case the passengers weren't bored of them yet.

Passengers who are not brand new will notice that the train has gotten yet longer again with a sixth sleeper cabin for new arrivals.

New passengers will find their tickets allow them into their cabins. They may need to negotiate for beds, especially if they want a top bunk!

Room is tight but there are storage cubbies at the head of each bed, beds fold up and the bottom bunks double as benches for the small table. There is storage under those benches and you will hopefully find a pillow for your bed if it has not been nabbed by a roommate, there are also spare blankets for if it gets cold.

Departure

A second horn sounds to encourage any stragglers and the doors slide shut. Veteran passengers know what will happen next, they may wish to brief their new companions.

The train sets off, the fog obscuring the view as it picks up speed.

"Welcome aboard, passengers of the Voidtrecker Express.” A female-coded artificial sounding voice echoes throughout the train. "Please take the time to read the passenger information displayed on the Information and Communication points and familiarise yourself with the layout and emergency exits."

The train begins to tilt, leaving the ground and rising up into the fog filled sky.

"Entrance into Voidspace imminent. New passengers are advised to remain seated. Entry into Voidspace in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."

A shudder, a jolt, a lurch to the left. A flash of light, colourful and blinding. As quick as it happens it is done. The train seems to steady. The fog from the windows is gone now, replaced with a kaleidoscope of ever changing colours.

Welcome to the Void!

Duo didn't jump, alright? Years of conditioning went into force and he did not jump.

... Still scared the shit outta him when someone spoke to him from behind.

He thought, for a second, it was the voice of the train. Or whoever was driving the thing, but when he glanced over his shoulder to find a pretty girl and her thing, he knew for sure that it wasn't the train.

"Plastic explosive." Duo replied cheerfully and looked back at the sign. So if he punched it, it would punch back? What if he tickled it?

"What's with the Furby?" He asked with a grin as he turned around to face the girl and made a little gestured to the creature at her side.

Najaran was one of those new strangers, but she stopped dead seeing him, staring at his ears before her legs buckled and she fell to the ground, eyes huge, tears starting to pool. She needs a moment, she does. Because she is very near to either hugging this stranger or bursting out crying or both. And she's not sure how that will play out yet. Her mind is still stuck on the last moments with Kigi. The voice of Kigi's sister, the feel of Old Willow.

Kigi wasn't the last. Her people survived. And she'd never know....
najaran: (Taken aback)

[personal profile] najaran 2020-04-01 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
One of the orange new arrivals was looking around, seeming very lost. She kept clutching something in front of her like she was holding a staff or a shield with a staff like grip to hide behind, but nothing was there. She wasn't even aware of the habit, really. Or rather, it still escaped her sometimes that she was so alone.... Well, maybe not fully alone...

She went to attach whatever it was to her belt and there was an almost heartbreaking moment visible on her face as she realized that she neither had whatever she'd been holding or a belt. She fished a pouch out of her pocket, the sort of thing that you might hold a deck of cards or dice in. She studied the bag without opening it, desperation on her face at war with something deep within her.
najaran: (Eh heh heh... you noticed?)

[personal profile] najaran 2020-04-01 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
On his way to the train was a girl, wandering looking lost and a little dazed. She almost walked into him then pulled herself short with an apologetic laugh, one hand behind her head. "Sorry..."

He'd manage to score a few pointed before a voice spoke behind him and he lost control of the ball. It went flying toward a corner and crashed into a few things. Duo flinched, winced and muttered an 'oh shit' under his breath before he remembered why he'd lost control of the ball.

The braided pilot spun around to find Trowa standing there looking at him in shock. His own expression was one of pure elation and joy. For a brief second, anyway. He quickly got his shit together and slammed the Jesters Mask back into place with a wide grin and a raising of his hand in a cheerful wave. "Hey, buddy! Fancy meetin you here!"
maxwellsdaemon: (Creeped out)

[personal profile] maxwellsdaemon 2020-04-01 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
"No..." Duo replied with a sigh and a shake of his head. "Just hoping for a bad dream."

He turned to look at the girl who was approaching him and gave her a smile. "No one you know around here either, huh?"
najaran: (Vagabond)

[personal profile] najaran 2020-04-01 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Why would you be hoping for a bad dream?" she asked with a bit of a laugh. Then she shook her head and focused on what else he was saying. "I was just with Goologan and Master Horowitz, but now I can't find either of them," she admitted. She felt alone. Very alone. But she did have her cards. She just didn't dare pull them out here. There was the fear of hurting someone accidentally, or causing a panic. But also.. she really didn't want to be arrested again. If it wasn't for Alta, she'd never have gotten her cards back.
maxwellsdaemon: (up to no good)

[personal profile] maxwellsdaemon 2020-04-01 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Virtual reality, huh?" Duo looked at the girl and gave her a charming smile, a smile he didn't think he was going to get back. But hey, you couldn't win everyone over immediately, right?

"What kinda practice?" He asked then with interest. Not knowing much about where he was, he was curious about what they would need to practice for.

A flash of red out of the corner of his eye, and Glorfindel will see one of the elves on the train. A very famous one, if only because of her association with rather famous peoples.

Nerdanel stands, eyes full of tears, watching as Maglor and Maedhros walk through the turnstiles and away, without ever looking back.
najaran: (Colour 4 - Dance with the Decoy)

Platform. Apparently she will have this reaction to all elves for a while, sorry.

[personal profile] najaran 2020-04-01 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
She saw him from behind through the fog, only spotting the back of his head at first. Najaran didn't know many blonds, and of the few she knew only one had hair like that. But Kigi was...

Najaran found herself pushing through the fog, desperate. More so when she was close enough to see pointed ears. "KIGI!" she called out, rushing forward now, tears in her eyes. She reached a hand out just as she was close enough to realize... this wasn't Kigi. Najaran skidded to a stop and fell on her rear, tears willing up as she stared up at the blond stranger. Not Kigi, but.... Kigi wasn't the last. They weren't all dead...

"Thank Culdra...." she whispered, unable to look away from him.
maxwellsdaemon: (Cheer for me)

[personal profile] maxwellsdaemon 2020-04-01 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
Duo just damn well grinned. He's seen a fair few strange looking people on his walks through the train (and on that platform outside), but he had to wonder how this kid got his hair so on point. It was rude to ask, ruder to stare... but the guy's eyes were huge! And strangely innocent. It amazed him and amused him in equal measure. He wondered what other interesting people he'd run into.

Remembering he'd been asked a question, Duo laughed. "Caught me! Yup, just checking out what this place has to offer. Haven't found the swimming pool and hot tubs but I'm guessing they're further along?" He joked, his grin widening to show he was joking and wasn't actually looking for a hot tub on his first day. Unless....
maxwellsdaemon: (Default)

[personal profile] maxwellsdaemon 2020-04-01 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
"I'd be surprised if you had." Duo replied with a chuckle. If he'd been seen before this, the kid might have been killed. But hey, he didn't think this was that kind of circumstances, and he was weaponless, so no killing here!

He watched for a few seconds as the other guy did some weird and interesting things with a deck of cards and gave an impressed little whistle. "Not bad. Bet you kill at poker, huh?"
maxwellsdaemon: (done with this crap)

[personal profile] maxwellsdaemon 2020-04-01 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
"If it's a bad dream I get to wake up from it soon." But this wasn't like any bad dream he'd ever had, so clearly that wasn't the way things were going to go for him.

When she spoke of who she was looking for, Duo didn't have a clue what those names meant or who they were, so couldn't help. Even though the girls sad look was killing him inside.

"Uh... well maybe they're somewhere else? Or they'll show up later? Maybe this is a dream?" Duo offered, the best he could really, not knowing what the hell was going on.

Kitchen

[personal profile] maxwellsdaemon 2020-04-01 10:51 am (UTC)(link)
The smell of cooking food had Duo moving back toward the kitchen area to investigate what was going on.

He popped his head through the door, long braid dangling, and grinned at the guy cooking. "Smells great!" he said and gave the guy the thumbs up because hey, he could be encouraging when he wanted to be! "Need a hand?"
maxwellsdaemon: (Whys my hand so big)

[personal profile] maxwellsdaemon 2020-04-01 10:55 am (UTC)(link)
He'd heard it from clear across the platform, and now he found the owner of the Ringtone from Hell and he had to laugh.

"Speedy Gonzáles fan, huh?" He asked by way of greeting. Duo, in his spare time (and when he could because even with spare time he didn't always have access to the internet) loved old cartoons. Looney Toons were the best. Though he was more of a Bugs fan.

Train

[personal profile] maxwellsdaemon 2020-04-01 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
Duo was just working out where he was going when a sweet voice spoke up at his side and he immediately side-stepped out of the way. Then he blinked and just grinned.

"Hey, sorry about that. You're not the only one. We're to get lost in a place that has no angles." Duo replied with a laugh.

Departure

[personal profile] maxwellsdaemon 2020-04-01 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
Duo hadn't taken a seat because he was badass like that and considered it a point for him against the Voidtrecker.

Once the train started on it's merry way, the braided teen started on his and found a guy staring out of a window. So, he did what anyone else would do in that situation, and he peered through a window too.

"Holy shit... Now why didn't I notice that before..." He muttered under his breath. He'd never seen anything like it in his life, but wondered if this was what an acid trip looked like. Or maybe the inside of a lava lamp?
najaran: (Hm?)

[personal profile] najaran 2020-04-01 11:05 am (UTC)(link)
She shook her head. "I've been kidnapped too many times now to think it could be a dream, but usually when I am Gooligan is with me at least." she sighed, her shoulders slumping downward. "I tried calling a lot of times, if Gooligan could hear me and respond he would have by now." Her master, however, she was less and less sure of. "I wonder how we get back..." she said, looking up at the sky as best she could.

Hearing someone say excuse me, she looked over. Her Master had taught her good manners after all. But at his question she shook her head. "I don't know," she said softly, looking lost and confused. "I'm not even sure how I got here, let alone where here is..."
najaran: (Harumph better to be prepared)

I.

[personal profile] najaran 2020-04-01 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
Najaran hadn't really noticed him till he moved to avoid someone else coming too close to him. Her eyes followed him up and she stopped in the entryway, staring for a long moment before a bright smile broke out on her face. She didn't know what kind of card or monster he was, but if he was here then there was another cepter here. She wasn't quite so alone! And she could use her cards without scaring anyone.

But all at once her smile fell, became the fear he might have expected from the first glance. But the fear wasn't of him, not directly. What if there was another cepter, but it was a black cepter? She shivered at the thought. She looked around quickly. Lots of people, close quarters. She didn't see anyone obviously controlling him, but that didn't mean anything. She tried to back up, to bring the battle she thought was about to come outside on the space where she had found herself at first. More open there, less chance of anyone else getting hurt. She jammed a hand into her pocket, missing having her book hanging off of her belt. She drew out a card as she tried to back up, but the press of people wouldn't let her. Her eyes went back to watching him while she waited to find out if she was about to be attacked...

Allen looked around the new place he had once again found himself in. How many times was it now? Two? Three? Though he could at least tell the fact he was on a platform of all things, which means the train in front of him was the one he felt the urge to get on.

But it still didn't stop the young man from getting mildly annoyed and muttering under his breath.

"Not again. When will the worlds decide that they are done with me?" In the last part he sighed slightly. It was not to not be at home and have to be running for his life for who knows how long thanks to there situation, but at the same time he always found he had moments of missing those he knew.

It was the same with the worlds he had gone to. At that thought he soon found himself looking around, hoping that maybe he was lucky and that there was someone from the last world here.

Departure
The train was soon setting off and the young man was finally on and finally checking just what was in the bag he seemed to have magically gotten and once Timcampy flew out of it he couldn't help[ but be happy. It seemed the golem was always with him no matter where they went.

"I'm glad to see you Timcampy. I',m at least glad you are always with me... But what about him..." He quickly started to dig around for something else but soon noticed that they weren't there. It was enough to cause a frown. "I see... Guess it's just you and me again, huh?"

Closing the bag he moved to stand up, picking up the bag as he looked over "Guess we should explore. At least on a train we cannot get lost, huh?" He said with a grin as the golem nodded before flying behind him exploring each and every carriage they found themselves in.

She does not call after them. She still cannot feel them - although she can see their bodies walk away from her. If her boys had still been here in spirit, she knows, they would have, at least, looked back.

She stands, a solitary figure in the flow of people coming and going, stock still, her hair a red banner, eyes fixed on the exit, and does not move, until it is time to leave.

After, she retreats to the garden car, where she sits amidst the stones, and slowly starts to carve her sons' faces.

With Allen mildly annoyed at once again ending up in another world, he was still taking it better than potentially other people. But as he was about to head onto the train he found himself pausing for a moment and looking over.

He couldn't help but notice something she had on her and he couldn't help but a tiny bit curious.

"Um... Sorry if this seems at all rude, but... I noticed you have Pokeballs on your belt. Does that mean you know about Pokemon?"

"Now that's something you don't see every day." Duo called cheerfully as he approached the guy and his Golden Winged Ball of Mystery. He'd literally never seen anything like it in his life and wondered what was powering it. He cocked his head to the side, couldn't work it out, so shrugged and went right back to grinning at the guy.

"You'd be surprised. Think this thing has some length to it. And who knows? If it can bring us all here, why couldn't this thing bend in all directions?" It would have made sense to Duo. Whoever created the train had given it the ability to kidnap people. Surely it stood to reason that the train could be bigger on the inside?

Mental/Emotional:

There is no transition, no context from which to derive, to extrapolate, to explain what is happening:

At first he is at home - Earth, everywhere, anywhere the Internet has its firm roots.

Then he is nowhere - all live feeds, gone. All feeds period, gone. No visual, no audio, not even the firmament that was how he saw the World Wide Web.

His first thought is: CAITLIN? For that feed was gone, too; his one truly personal window onto the world, gone as if it had never existed.

His second: Am I dead?

His third, fourth, fifth, and so on are speculation, increasingly-breaking-down attempts to bring himself to reason, to find something real to interact with.

He can make no sense of it - am I attacking people? If I am no longer on Earth, what is occurring there in my absence? - and all his logic degrades into panic.

Whatever body he is in, now - and all he can tell is that it is somehow far smaller than that of the Earth (IS ALL OF ME EVEN HERE? HOW?!), that he is finite, and he is alone.

Loneliness. Emptiness.

If he could, he would scream-

Physical/Open to Action

To everyone else on the platform, all that people can tell about this odd new Voidtrecker is that it - he, but the gender is not easily gathered at this point - is one of the robotic sort, dressed in an orange hoodie with the requisite cargo shorts and work boots, lightweight rucksack hanging loosely off its back.

It is also clearly malfunctioning; all the mechanical tendons and joints are held stiff, as if someone were trying to activate every muscle at once. The screen that serves for a face is blank, and the curious can spot a webcam lurking behind, frantically twitching.

There must be speakers somewhere on this newcomer, however: there is a very present sense of static.

As if someone was trying to scream.
