Tony felet a pang of guilt when Peter takes his explanation so easily. The kid shouldn't have so much faith in him.
"Pete, it's okay," he says, waving away the apologies. "There's a lot going on, kid. Thanks." He takes the shirt and puts it to his head. He reaches out and pats Peter's hand affectionately in gratitude- and a part of him needed to make sure the kid was still real and this wasn't a hallucination. It didn't really help, as he was pretty convinced at this point he had completely lost his mind.
Case in point, the pajama comment. "I don't know. This place has a weird sense of humor?"
