Double the Bunny, Double the Fun

Who: WangJi and You! ... with closed action to WuXian
Where: Greenhouse Car, Dining Car, randomly around the train
When: Horseshoe Day 1
What: WangJi has retrieved his new rabbit from the luggage car and wants to introduce it to the train... and find his husband
Warnings: Fluff? Is fluff a warning?

WangJi had finally picked up his request from the luggage car, a small black rabbit that was both a friend for Little Rabbit and a surprise for his husband... since he wanted him to name it since he had gotten to name the last one.

So he was wandering the train with the black rabbit in his arms, standing out brilliantly against his white sleeves. He wanted the rabbit to get used to the sights and sounds of the train, the same way that Little Rabbit was used to them as well.

In the course of his exploration with the rabbit, he made it to the dining car to see what herbs and vegetables were available for a snack and through the library. He avoided the music car because he didn't want to upset the small rabbit with too much noise.

Greenhouse Car
Finally, he decided to take the new rabbit to meet his companion, Little Rabbit. For the moment, he was going to let them get used to each other through the fence of what would be their shared hutch, letting them not see the other rabbit as a threat.

But the black rabbit, of course, wanted to explore the garden car, hopping around and sniffing the plants.

"Careful, little one," WangJi said to the rabbit, kneeling in between where the rabbit was exploring the hutch where Little Rabbit was sitting, watching the new arrival.

Finally, he found his husband. Somehow in a living arrangement that was basically a straight line, it was still hard to find people.

"Wei Ying."

He approached, holding the black rabbit in his arms.

Nita nodded, turning back to the screen.

"... You wrote a song for the two of you. That's- that's really sweet."

Enough to make her smile, less teasingly this time.

"Though, what does it mean for it to be reversed that way?"

"I can't really picture doing that, but I guess I'll let you know if I change my mind." Senku said agreeably, letting him get back to acclimating his new bunny.

Happy bunny is going to get spoilt~

"Ah! That is true enough. You may not have noticed, as I do not think any of them used their Father-names here, but my husband named all our sons after his father, which is pleasing in it's symmetry, but occasionally I confess could be a little frustrating when you were wanting to scold!"

A faint smile crossed his face. "I played it for him once and I thought he didn't remember it, but he did."

He loved WuXian and he had for longer than WuXian thought that he had.

"I don't believe that it means anything different than mine."

Very spoiled~

"Did he? That would make it difficult to be able to get one son's attention over another."

"Very!" She sighs in fondly exasperated memory. "I prefer their Mother-names, and most of my sons did the same, and told me earnestly that it was because it was the name I gave them, but sometimes I wonder if it was because they were a little exasperated at hearing how similar their Father-names were!"

"Stylistic choice, then?"

Nita paged down once more.

"Think you'll recognize any of the rest of these?"

He can look over her shoulder to point them out; she doesn't mind.

"If I may ask, what is the difference between father and mother names in your world? Is there a specific order for how one chooses those?"

"I suppose so."

He moved so that he could look at the list that was now on the screen, holding the headphones in his hands. The black rabbit leaned out slightly to sniff at them, but wouldn't go so far as to fall out of his travel pocket.

"This one. I have played this one before."

And he tapped one of them that had the name Flowing Water.

Nita let the music fall over her like - well, flowing water!

"I think we've found exactly what we were looking for. Maybe more than," she added, aiming another grin Lan WangJi's way.

"Apparently we can save music to our SCAs. Did you want to do that for these?"

It was a very appropriate name. WangJi always loved how it sounded like it could have been about the slow-moving rivers in the Cloud Recesses.

"Yes, it seems we have." It made him happy that somehow the train had music from his world. How had he not realized this before?

"Really? You can? Yes, I would like to save them."

Then he could listen to them without having to play them himself, which was still nice, but sometimes it was nice to hear someone else playing.

"I think the hookup works like this..."

From there, and with a certain amount of help from her internal silent partner, Nita went about finding the plug-ins for the SCAs on the Music Car's ICPs.

"Here. Hold yours up like this."

"Yes, although it's not a strict ruling, you know. But usually, the father-name is given at birth, or close to it. It's no unusual for it to be... well, like how Feanaro named all his sons after his father, in some way. Although most people are not quite so... pointed in the sort of names they choose."

She rolls her eyes at the memory. Honestly, naming their firstborn "Third Finwe" just to spite his brother....

"A mother-name might be given at birth, if the mother has a particular strong insight, but is often given later - mother-names are often prophetic, or at least, they hold something of what a mother sees in her child, or hopes for their life. Our Curufin, here - his father-name is Curufinwe, his own father's name, you see. But I named him Atarinke - Little Father - because I looked at him and I knew that he would be a wonderful father one day, as his father was in turn."

She sometimes wishes she had not, because few had realised what she intended, and Curufin had taken both his names and tried to make himself a carbon copy of his father, and she knows how badly the failing hurt him.

"How do your people name their children?"

WangJi watched curiously as she showed him how the devices worked together. He had never even thought to about all the things that this device could do.

When directed, he brought his arm up the same way that she did so the could get his SCA connected to it. The black rabbit tried to lean out again to look at his hand, but he stopped him with his free hand.

"That is interesting... and similar to how we name our own.

When a child is born, a few days after birth, elder male familiar members meet with the parents to give input on the child's birth name. It could be a sentiment of what they would like for their life or something that means something to them. It is usually only one character.

Later in life, when a child comes of age, they are given a courtesy name. It may have been picked out as early as the birth name, but they do not begin to go by it until maturity. This also has a meaning behind it. Some without courtesy names assigned by parents will pick their own.

My birth name is Lan Zhan. You will often hear Wei Ying... Wei WuXian referring to me as such. 'Lan' is the color blue. 'Zhan' also refers to a shade of blue. 'WangJi' means to forget worldly matters."

"Characters? Ah! So you use a character system for your language? How lovely! But you are correct, that does sound very similar to ours. And 'blue'... ah, such a lovely meaning for your name. Is that why you wear a blue ribbon?"

/This isn't for you,/ Nita admonished the black bunny gently.

Just as calmly, though not in the exact same tone, she said, "There we go."

The last song they had listened to was the first cued-up to be transferred; so long as that worked, Nita could go back and add the others.

"We do. Different characters have different sounds and different meanings. I can show you sometime when I have paper."

He had a bunny. Cute, but not useful for writing.

"This?" He reached up to touch his ribbon. "Forehead ribbon. The forehead ribbon symbolizes self-restraint. It cannot be touched. After meeting your destined one, only then do you no longer need to be restrained."

Whether it was related to her comment or not, the bunny disappeared almost after she "said" this into WangJi's robes, only to poke his little nose out a moment later, WangJi helping to make sure the rabbit was stable there.

WangJi watched everything that she did, wanting to learn so that if he found another song that he liked, he would be able to save it for later as well without having to get help.

"Very convenient."

"I would like that." She smiles at him and nods.

"I see! Then will you give the ribbon to your destined one?"

Nita tried not to laugh at the black rabbit's reaction; he really was too cute!

"If we can save these tracks to other devices, and not just those run by the train, then that would be even better."

Not having all their eggs in one basket, so to speak.

"I will make sure to find some that would be suitable so I can show you properly."

Luckily, he was known to have beautiful calligraphy so it would be easy for her to see them.

"We still wear our forehead ribbons, but our partner may remove it and we do not need to hold back from showing them how we feel."

Also known as WuXian (and cabinmates by association) will likely be the only people to see WangJi without it.

He was cute. If WangJi knew that this had been right after she had "said" something to him, he would have found it even cuter than he currently thought it was.

"Yes, that would be helpful to not have to rely on the train."

But he would need a device for that...

"Thank you for your help and for showing me this."

"My sister might have something for that; not that I know where she is, but if you see a redhead with grey eyes and a computer at her heels about, it's most likely her."

There were other redheaded firebrands on the train, but none with Nita's eye color!

Nita backed up from the console to give Lan WangJi a thumbs up.

"Anytime, WangJi - Wait, do you prefer your full name, or-?"

"Awwww." She smiles. "That is the sweetest thing! So your beloved becomes your restraint, as it were!"
