Double the Bunny, Double the Fun

Who: WangJi and You! ... with closed action to WuXian
Where: Greenhouse Car, Dining Car, randomly around the train
When: Horseshoe Day 1
What: WangJi has retrieved his new rabbit from the luggage car and wants to introduce it to the train... and find his husband
Warnings: Fluff? Is fluff a warning?

WangJi had finally picked up his request from the luggage car, a small black rabbit that was both a friend for Little Rabbit and a surprise for his husband... since he wanted him to name it since he had gotten to name the last one.

So he was wandering the train with the black rabbit in his arms, standing out brilliantly against his white sleeves. He wanted the rabbit to get used to the sights and sounds of the train, the same way that Little Rabbit was used to them as well.

In the course of his exploration with the rabbit, he made it to the dining car to see what herbs and vegetables were available for a snack and through the library. He avoided the music car because he didn't want to upset the small rabbit with too much noise.

Greenhouse Car
Finally, he decided to take the new rabbit to meet his companion, Little Rabbit. For the moment, he was going to let them get used to each other through the fence of what would be their shared hutch, letting them not see the other rabbit as a threat.

But the black rabbit, of course, wanted to explore the garden car, hopping around and sniffing the plants.

"Careful, little one," WangJi said to the rabbit, kneeling in between where the rabbit was exploring the hutch where Little Rabbit was sitting, watching the new arrival.

Finally, he found his husband. Somehow in a living arrangement that was basically a straight line, it was still hard to find people.

"Wei Ying."

He approached, holding the black rabbit in his arms.

When Nita looked down at her feet and saw another rabbit, she was hit with an intense sense of deja vu.

/Hello,/ she greeted it with some amusement, before looking up to where she almost expected to see the bunny's owner.

"And hi to you, too. Had enough points again, I take it?"

Nerdanel looks up and smiles.

"You got him a companion!"

He looked up to see a man he didn't know walking around with a rabbit. A rather small rabbit, at that.

"Are you going to eat that? It's kind of small..."

Senku asked, a little bewildered by the rabbit's presence.

Yep, another rabbit. It must have seemed like they had done this before, except with a white rabbit. The little rabbit looked up at her, sitting up for a moment, before continuing exploration. There was so much to see! ... and another rabbit here.

"Hello. I did and I thought Little Rabbit might like a friend to help keep him company."

"I did. I thought it was time and they can keep each other company while we are on missions."

He picked up the little black rabbit, bringing him closer so Nerdanel could meet him.

Nita let the new rabbit go about its business - or play, perhaps? - and headed in Lan WangJi's direction instead.

"Can't say I disagree with that notion. Though it'll get crowded if we keep bringing pets on like this."

She smiled wryly at the notion. "If only we could stop the train from picking us up like this!"

The platform had been full this time - and it hadn't all been fun in the least. Informative in some ways, tragic in others.

WangJi looked up at the question. In the past, he had yelled at WuXian for talking about eating rabbits. But that was so long ago.

Still, he petted the rabbit after the question was asked. For a moment, it looked like he might have been trying to cover the rabbit's ears at the question, but his hand moved away so it was hard to say for sure.

"He is my pet and a companion for my other rabbit. He is not for food."

"Ah, I guess, looks like food to me." Senku observed wryly. "But I guess some people keep pets. Suika has a boar." He murmured a bit more to himself than anything.

"Do...rabbits need companions?" That seemed like a more pertinent question, considering all he knew about rabbits was physiology from biology textbooks.

The little black rabbit headed once again over towards the fence of the hutch, sitting up to look at Little Rabbit. Both of them, still getting used to each other, both watched each other through the fence and sniffed. WangJi wanted to make sure they were at least used to each others presence before he allowed them together.

"It will. I don't believe more than two is necessary for Wei Ying and I. And they are both male." So no chance of a flood of tiny rabbits.

"If we could, many would appreciate it."

Though some may never know because they weren't picked up by the train.

"And we could go home."

"I know."

Nita sobered a little, smile faltering, and she nodded.

"Not sure if even the train knows what's up with that - but all we can really do is look for opportunities to change things in the future."

"For many, they are. In my home, we do not eat meat, and killing is prohibited on our grounds. So I take care of them."

WangJi pet the rabbit in his arms which was wiggling its nose in Senku's direction.

"They do enjoy the company of others. When we are on missions, I suspect it is harder that no one can come to visit them."

At least with two of them, they can keep each other company until they return.

WangJi nodded.

"The train seems to have an idea of what it is supposed to do and will keep doing it despite everything."

He smiled very slightly, almost imperceptively except to someone who knew him well or was really paying attention.

"At least it is getting bigger to accommodate. We now have the library and the music car."

He liked the music car.

"You must have a decent infrastructure in your world then." Senku said, considering that. "In mine there isn't anyone who could survive without meat at the moment, at least, and not be very sick. There are no alternatives to getting all of the nutrients they need. Agriculture is very new, and we are only growing wheat."

He blinked at that and tilted his head slightly to look at the rabbit. "I never had a pet, so I wouldn't know what it would like."

She thought of that distant presence, of its amusement - and then concern - and could only agree.

"The music car came with a lot more variety than the library car; not sure what's up with that..."

But then, like the cinema, it was also impossible to determine most of their contents' origins. At least with the library it was easier to put things from home in there.

"We do have good trading in our world. My home grows some of our food, but we are able to go to Caiyi Town and get supplies. Agriculture? Only now. It must be very far in the past."

WangJi looked down at the rabbit before turning back to Senku. "What all rabbits would like? Or what this rabbit would like right now?"

"The opposite actually, very far in the future after civilization died and I'm bringing it back." Senku explained. "But the people that lived outside of those who were petrified, were such a small group that agriculture was outside of the scope of what they could handle. There's also nowhere really to trade with, and no real resources the other settlement we now have access to has that we don't."

In fact, they would have to do something about bringing Treasure Island up to their level of technology beyond the radio tower. It went on his mental to do list, maybe after they returned from America.

"I meant rabbits in general." He nodded. "I know what they eat and I've had them. I mean, I'll eat anything I can catch to survive." He explained. "Because there's not much of an alternative there, but..."

"I have not checked out the library in full as of yet. But music car did have much variety."

He debated for a moment. "Perhaps the trained determined a greater variety of instruments than books and that's how it decided?"

It was the only thing that he could think of.

"Not so much the instruments - if you looked through the music archives, there's music tracks from all sorts of worlds."

In other words, a library of songs.

"I could help you find something from home, sometime? Not sure if the Music Car will accept new recordings on our end, but that might be an option too."

"So your civilization died out?" That was an odd concept for him to consider. Even at where he was in their society compared to this place, he couldn't really imagine it. "And there was no record of agriculture?"

Strange. Very strange.

"Of course. Rabbits are much like others. They look for food, have offspring. But they play, they learn, they care for others. They have been some of my best companions in the worst of times."

"Oh... I saw them, but I did not look."

He was not good with technical stuff so he tended to avoid it aside from the few times with the communication device so he had not even attempted it. He had looked at the instruments though.

"I would appreciate the help to find something from home." He smiled faintly.

"In a manner of speaking. Humans were all turned to stone statues for over 3700 years, so all of civilization and technology that had built up, including the records, are long gone." Senku responded.

"The village was only 40 people, and although they suffered for food, and had a hard time when it was a bad year or something to that effect, agriculture would have been beyond them. There weren't enough people to put forth the effort and resources, and also, the area they were in was not conducive to that. Horrible place to grow crops. We had to build the farming further away."

He hummed a little bit. "Guess I never thought they did things like play."

There was a very odd look on WangJi's face at the comment about stone statues. "Yes, I would suppose that such things would make it difficult to grow crops reliably. But... how did everyone become statues?"

He pet the rabbit again when it tugged on his sleeve with its mouth. See? Rabbit wanted his attention. "They do. They run and chase each other, jump over each other, and onto objects. Sometimes they will play with new objects they have never seen before."

"That's pretty fascinating, actually. From what I can tell they used this small device we're calling the Medusa and then the world was engulfed in a bright light turning everyone to stone. Once I broke free of that, thanks to some handy nitric acid and my brain functions, I've been working to put civilization back together. I've managed to figure out revival fluid, so someday when we produce enough, we can revive all 7.8 billion people."

He hummed. "Not so bad I guess, you could watch them and be entertained. I never considered getting a pet."

Nerdanel's eyes are very soft as she offers her fingers to sniff.

"I think that a lovely idea! Ah, but you will need to name them both now!"

Wei Wuxian had been wandering about, making new acquaintances and wondering where his lovely husband was, when he finally spotted him, spotting him.

"Lan Zhan! I was looking for....oo, is that a new rabbit? This one is black. Oh, now you have a pair like the ones I gave you!" This made Wei Wuxian very happy, to be honest. He knew that Lan Zhan liked the rabbits, he'd kept them and raised their offspring, after all, but still, seeing the new rabbit just made him smile.

As a reward, he reached over the rabbit's head and gave his husband a kiss.
