Just a quiet moment reading

Who: Nerdanel and whoever!
Where: Library & Garden
When: Various times between platform and next stop
What: Mama Elf is available for chats, hugs, and lullabies but technically she's working. She doesn't mind interruptions!

Garden

As she so often is, Nerdanel can be found sitting in the garden, singing softly as she works on her sculptures. The first is now finished, standing no more than two hands tall, Maedhros looks up out of stone, almost as if he might speak at any moment. She works now on the second, but will not mind company.

Library

The library is new, and therefore interesting, and Nerdanel can be found at intervals browsing through the shelves curiously, flipping through books. Alternatively, she can also be found sketching - a bas relief is taking shape under her pencil - one of the train, by the looks of things. Feel free to interrupt her for a chat!

"That is quite a good sketch," Webmind notes, in passing.

"And we have newly acquired some more art supplies, if you wished to peruse those. Assuming you haven't already, of course."

Not knowing what everyone on the train had been up to could get awkward, sometimes!

"He's smaller than I am," Fingon can't help but remark.

A wry smile flicks across his face as he brushes his fingers against the statue.

"It's a strange experience- even in stone, it feels as though he should be taller."

Nerdanel smiles at him with a laugh. "Well, I could do one of you! Then you could be of height with him again. Did you want to keep this one?"

"Thank you." Nerdanel smiles at Webmind.

"I confess, it's merely a concept, at the moment. I may or may not take it further, I have yet to decide."

She eyes the sketch and scribbles a note in the corner.

"Such things are quite time-consuming, and I doubt I'd be able to find suitable materials in my preferred medium."

She looks pleased at the information. "Have we! Oh, that is useful to know - although I suppose I might leave that to the young ones. I can always use my points if I require more."

He smiles at the offer, but shakes his head.

"No, it's all right. You should keep your work... and I have plenty of memories, anyway."

"Alright." She smiles fondly at him.

"Although I mean to do one of you anyway. I think Maitimo would have liked that."

Fingon snorts.

"Probably more than he'd like the existence of his own," he says ruefully. "He never was terribly vain, even before Beleriand."

A moment of silence, then he asks, "Would you mind if I asked whether anything particular inspired this?"

She chuckles softly.

"Can a mother help it if she has a favourite subject? I did not name him lightly, you know, and despite what people may think, I did not name him for the beauty of his face."

She named him for his spirit, for the fact that when he was born, she could not have said if there was anything she could ever make to surpass him. Her other sons proved her wrong, of course, not because they were better, but because they were also perfect, held for the first time in her arms, and she had understood then that there are many different types of perfect, although perhaps she was biased.

She traces a fond finger over the carving.

"Young Cassie - she is painting on the walls, did you know? She started with her family, but is slowly starting to do ones of her new friends, here. I thought it was a good idea."

It was highly unlikely with a library on board that Senku wouldn't at least be found there.

As it was, he had four math textbooks in his arms, and he made a beeline for the scanning machine, so he could poke around at it to figure out how to register the new books.

He realized he wasn't alone and glanced briefly in her direction. "Hi." He greeted, which was pretty good for him, actually.

"What would that preferred medium be? I could perhaps be of assistance in acquiring it," Webmind offers.

That it is time-consuming isn't as much of a bother; people needed such things when dealing with long stretches of time in a confined space.

"Or in, at the very least, negotiating with the shop vendor as to what terms will get you what you require."

Sometimes the only thing for it was trial-and-error.

There was a new car and it was library of all things! Of course, Quatre was going to be there to check it out. He missed having books around to be able to read or research. So it was still early after the addition that Quatre made his way there.

And he found that he was not the only one there. As he happened to be looking at some of the books, he almost literally ran into someone else.

"Oh, excuse me."

Glorfindel comes and sits on a bench nearby and stretches in ways only elves can, before pulling out a skein of yarn and two bamboo sticks he'd made. Quietly he starts to knit, sticking his tongue out of the side of his mouth as he does so, because that's how you concentrate, right?

"Oh, I'm a sculptor." She smiles wryly.

"I suspect the amount of stone I would need to do this justice would be terribly inconvenient, and I confess that I do not consider good enough with plaster to do it justice."

Nerdanel looks up and smiles.

"Well met." She dips her head in a polite bow. "I do not think we have met before? Nerdanel, at your service."

"Oops!"

Nerdanel smiles, steadying him.

"Tis no trouble. Are you alright? No harm done?"

"Uh, yeah, nice to meet you." Senku turned to face her, and bowed slightly in return. It was hard to know, a lot of people seemed to prefer handshakes.

"We haven't. I'm Senku." He said, by way of introduction. "Ishigami Senku, but Senku's fine. I don't really care either way."

Glorfindel is welcome company, and one that she is accustomed to, but she laughs softly and swats at him.

"Tongue in, my lord! You look like a naughty child!"

"Senku." She smiles, sounding out the name carefully.

"I am happy to use whichever you prefer. There are so many folk from other worlds here - I do try and be accomodating, so far as is possible! Are you seeking for anything in here in particular? I fear the shelves are still a little bare."

"It's fine, family names don't mean much in my world anymore." Senku explained, sort of without explaining and held up the textbook on knot theory.

"I'm checking these four in. Someone got me for them, they're math books. They're interesting, but I can share."

While Webmind would normally have accepted the notion as-is, there are some other factors being on a worldview-shattering train has introduced...

"There appear to be some on this train who could conjure the materials out of thin air. There is Piccolo, on Blue, and one Ronan Lynch, on Orange."

Quatre smiled.

"Yeah, no harm done. Sorry about that. I wasn't paying attention. Are you alright?"

"Oh?" She tips her head curiously.

Nerdanel smiles and shakes her head. "Thank you but no - I'm content enough with my sketchbook, for the moment."

"Yes, thank you." She dips in a small curtsy.

"Nerdanel, at your service."

"Oh, I know." She smiles wryly. "Well, about young Piccolo, at any rate. But I rather think their talents are more useful for other things than art."

"There aren't enough people and nearly a third of them don't have family names to begin with." Senku responded. "My world is incredibly fascinating, to me at least."

He hummed. "Your loss. Math is pretty fun." Only someone like Senku would think so.
