flatteries: (nothing changed at all)

For a moment Inigo just stares at the Arms Band. Maybe he should have expected it, yet he didn't - and it makes so much more sense when he reads the note, when he hears Roland speak. Inigo had no idea these things could do that, considering he's mostly just seen Tidus use it to pull out snacks, so there's a quiet surprise about Inigo. Mostly quiet though since he's so touched by it. Roland really must have been thinking about that conversation they shared back during the mission, right before they had to go back to the train.

It feels like so much. He would already have been happy with the Arms Band by itself - especially if it grants him the chance to actually become stronger with training - but it's the sentiment behind him that really gets him. Roland thinks about him. He cares. He's trying to help him out.

Inigo can feel his eyes growing watery as he stares down at it, but quickly moves a hand up to rub at his eyes, wiping the tears away as soon as they appear. He picks up the Arms Band, making it shrink to fit on his finger as a ring, and a moment later--

"Hold on." He did hear the last time Roland says, and he will go along with it, but he quickly has to do something else first. Inigo's hands move to his neck, pulling something out that must have been under his hoodie - a small chain hanging around his neck with a ring hanging off it. He takes the ring off the chain, instead putting it on the finger next to the one he has the Arms Band on. It's intricate and rather old fashioned-looking, but Roland will no doubt recognize the ring as a wedding ring, even though it may be from a different time. "T.. That was mother's," he explains. Still quietly, slowly, like words are still a bit hard. "I'll wear them both, to remind me that I've got more than just one person looking out for me."

Even when things are so, so incredibly tough. Like right now. He's not alone. His heart is still heavy, but maybe if he remembers that thought just enough.. Will he be able to somehow find the strength to pull through?

".. though some closer than others," he adds with a bit of a wistful expression. (He's rather glad that there's at least one parental figure by his side rather than just looking down on him from heaven, okay.)

"S-- Sorry, though, I'll close my eyes now." And he does so! No complaints or teen tantrums here. Inigo sure doesn't think it's childish to close your eyes for a surprise. "Is it fine like this..?"
