flatteries: (on the noose around your neck)
a man for flowers ✿ ( INIGO ) ([personal profile] flatteries) wrote in [community profile] voidtreckerexpress 2020-10-19 08:13 am (UTC)

It's almost weird to hear Roland talk about the same fear as him. The same nightmares as him. Inigo always took it as a personal thing. Him being too easily attached to people, still too scared, like a child. But Roland - despite their physical appearance not making them seem too far off from each other, age-wise - is so much older. He's an adult. A king-- president, whatever. And if there's anything Inigo has imagined through looking up to his Exalt father back home, it's that kings don't do these sorts of things. They don't get scared. They don't have childish nightmares. They just amaze efortlessly, unafraid.

So he's unsure of how to reply to it. A part of him almost feels like comforting Roland. Would that be the right thing to do here? Inigo is so used to his own worries and nightmares, but would never want anyone else to have to deal with it. Let alone someone as important to him as Roland.

But it seems that the other isn't done, that Roland's words are already moving on before Inigo knows what to say. Jumblie moves a bit closer to him, and Inigo's hands instinctively reach out, traveling down the back of the creature's head, finding the sun-like higgledy warm to the touch, but surprisingly comfortably so.

And then there's the offer. It leaves Inigo even more speechless. It isn't entirely new to him, since it's a similar offer he has extended to so many people on here. After this is done, I'll come find you. You won't be alone. Even while being unsure of how far Naga's powers could reach, whether she would be able to open a portal to those people's worlds, Inigo still couldn't help but want to reach out, give people that bit of hope.

But having it be extended to him instead is new. He's been so busy giving that he never considered letting someone else pull him out of the pit instead. But here Roland is, offering the certainty of seeing each other again, even if they were seperated by the train. Although even more than that, it's..

Inigo reaches back, a hand leaving Jumblie so he can instead put it in Roland's. His hand is lightly shaking in a way he can't quite hide.

".. Did you know?"

His voice is soft. But more than that, it's tiny. Almost fragile.

Inigo knows it can't be the case. He never told anyone here on the train his story - not his full story, without details omitted, without parts he didn't want to burden others with polished away. Not even Yuki, way back.

But Roland making this very specific offer feels like he somehow knows. It's just too coincidental otherwise.

"Did you know I don't have a place to return to..?"
