Curufin had not been able to resist his father's wishes, he never had been able to do that. Especially not in that situation, in which his father was going across the Sea no matter what. Curufin could not bear to be left behind. He can well understand how hurt his mother was by the departure of all her sons as well as her husband.
He smiles tenderly at her. "If it happens that we are all returned to Middle-earth, I will find you wherever you are. And I'll look for the others, if they don't come immediately."
