"Yes, actually, though nothing like what you just described. We ended up on a world that was very spiritual in nature and part of the problem was that all spiritual energy and senses related to it were being suppressed. I could still manipulate my own ki but sensing others was out. It felt strange but in the end we defeated the cause and it all came back.

"It's possible we could run into something like that again one day... or something even worse like what you described. I'll hope not though."

The idea of losing more than just his ki sense was not a pleasant thought in the least.
