Jelly 3: Getting back to training - Closed
Who: Vegeta and Trunks Brief.
Where: Training gym.
When: Jelly 3, very late night/early morning.
What: Late night training and comparison of skills.
Warnings: Fighting/physical violence.
[It had taken a few days before Vegeta had a chance to get the training gym to himself, having become frustrated at first that the damn room never seemed to be empty for him to get it to himself, then starting to keep track of just when people came and went from it. Eventually he got enough of a pattern to take a chance to get it alone, even if it meant doing it in the stupidly early hours of the morning. He would rather be sleeping, but that drive to get some training in easily overrode that. Vegeta should had also warned the other ki sensers on the train that he had planned to do this, rather than having a chance of waking them by a sudden ki rise from him, but he hadn’t. Hadn’t even considered it, just wanted to make the most of whatever time span he could get alone in the room.
At least he wasn’t going all out, not without knowing for sure the train would be able to take the impact from him being fully charged up. But he’s allowing himself to transform to Super Saiyan, just taking a moment to stand and enjoy the feeling of having it once again. It was so tempted to go further, to push himself the full way to Blue… but he could wait. When they got to a location he would have room to do so without worry of catching others in his path.
Despite going into Super Saiyan Vegeta’s training may seem quite simple to most observers, not using any of the equipment or even being that violent in his attacks into the air. Instead he’s continues on with his training he started from the last year; accuracy. Perfecting his form, overcoming any flaws, tweaking and altering his movement to eliminate errors and defects that for most fights wouldn’t make a different in the outcome. But for serious fights, for ones that pushed his limits, it may make the difference between success or defeat.]

This one acted very human in it's bullying--and Trunks didn't like bullies much either. But that last little glimpsed glitch in the other before Trunks turned off the ICP was being analyzed over and over again. Which probably wasn't helping.
So Trunks had thrown himself into training for most of day 3. It had kind of helped, he was at least calm enough to sleep that 'night'. Until the rude awakening of a familiar ki signature rising high; if Trunks had to guess, his father had gone super saiyan. Which meant his father was training.
Trunks debated himself for a few moments, before getting up. Following that signature to the training gym, and just watching for a moment. Before calling out--loud enough since the gym was empty aside from his father.]
Want a partner?
[It wouldn't do much to help calm him, but it would hopefully help in other ways. Maybe prove his father had changed.]

He doesn't break stride during this all, not even when Trunks arrives at the door and calls out to him, taking a moment to think over the option. Vegeta doubts Trunks would be anywhere near his level to offer much to his training, but he's also curious to see what his son has done in his time here. Also the fact Trunks even took the time to offer this was a good sign to Vegeta. But still not without a bit of attitude behind it,] If you think you can keep up. [There's no snark in those words, no anger. More of a challenge to see if Trunks wanted to rise to it.]
no subject
[There's a hint of smirk on Trunks' face. One often seen on Vegeta's own, in fact. Vegeta knew, since Trunks had answered him, that he hadn't been able to keep up much with his own training. More that he was helping others. It was part of why he was taking this chance. The opportunity to burn off more of his lingering anger was strong motivation too.
So Trunks walked over to his father, and powered up into Super Saiyan 1.]

Then come at me, and I'll show you.
[Trunks adopted a light defensive pose. He wondered how Vegeta's 'ground game' was, or his grappling. Not that Trunks had it at all perfect, but he had been paying attention whenever Cassie used it on him...]
no subject
This also hadn't been Vegeta had planned for this, having wanted to see Trunks attack to see what he could do now. But if this is what the boy wanted, he'll get it. Though... scaled down. A bit. This wasn't going to be a repeat of the last time. It also wasn't just about strength, as for them speed scaled along with it; so much that for Trunks Vegeta didn't so much move as appear. Or more so his fist. Towards Trunks' face. In reality he scaled back that speed just before the immediate punch, allowing Trunks to see it. Close to the speed he had against Cell, but a touch more. To see what Trunks could do against it.]
no subject
Maybe it was that he'd been working with Cassie and helping her get faster. Or a lucky instinct. Trunks didn't know, but he was able to pivot--dodging just slightly to the side so the fist wouldn't hit him. Time to try something else he'd often done with Cassie--grab the wrist. At the same time, Trunks tried to grab the wrist, he's moving to kick out hard at his father. Trying to drive him back.]
no subject
So he lets Trunks' grip land, wrapping around his wrist. But then tugging his arm back towards him. The aim was to throw Trunks off balance, to not expect that his opponent may pull him closer rather than push him away for distance, and provided Trunks didn't let go and followed after it, he would get a knee driven up into his gut. Just enough to wind him, almost a 'tap' to show he could had been hit harder, but wasn't.]
no subject
Anger fueling him, and Trunks determined to get a win, of sorts, he decided to follow through. Bringing his free hand up and around Vegeta's arm, locking it up with his own, and his hand near the other's elbow. Accepting the hit to his gut with a grunt, recognizing it was a 'tap'.
But he had Vegeta's arm locked up in a way that it would be very easy to put pressure on the joint just using physics. Very easy to hurt or control someone this way. It was a move Cassie had used a few times on Trunks successfully too.]
no subject
So would Trunks be surprised that lock worked? Or, well, 'worked', as Vegeta allowed it to happen, to see what his son has been learning... and very curious who his mentor is. This wasn't Piccolo's type of fighting, so it had to be someone else on the train. The problem though with such a lock on a ki user was it didn't stop them. It just exposed Trunks' back and side to Vegeta's hand, as even with it 'locked' he could still use it; blasting out a pressure wave of ki. No energy shot, just a 'push', almost a jab into Trunks' ribs.]
no subject
So Trunks used physics, and put torque and pressure on the joints of the wrist and elbow. Enough to break a normal person easily. Again, taking some pain himself, but determined to see this through.]
no subject
no subject
Alright, so I can't put you in any pain. It was worth a try...
[It's growled out almost, frustration clear. A good deal of it with himself now too, why had he thought that would work? Still he wasn't giving up. Going into a defensive stance again, blue-eyes narrowed. The fire in them should be familiar from whenever Vegeta looked in the mirror though.]
no subject
It also wasn't lost on Vegeta the flip it was from last time, seeing that growing anger in Trunks compared to he staying calmer. Was it because he was here? A reminder to Trunks about what he had done to him? Short of actually out right asking him Vegeta wouldn't know, and honestly, he's not great with words. A roll of his shoulder that Trunks had locked, Vegeta stepped back to the same position he had started in. Then a pause. Then racing in again, looking to be throwing that same punch as before, but at the last moment feigning it away in exchange for his other fist coming in from the side, curving in towards Trunks' head instead.]
no subject
But his father was...this was different, and Trunks had a split-second to recognize this wasn't the same trick. Ignoring the feint, to prepare to block the other fist coming his way. So maybe it was time to try another Cassie-trick. Go all out, and don't stop until you drop or you get your opponent down.
So Trunks countered and lashed out with a combo of punches and kicks. Trying to analyze as he went, but not bothering to hold back at all in favor of fighting as if for his life.]
no subject
And he can see a lot of his early self in Trunks right now, blocking and dodging those attacks, but also not too concerned with stopping them all. He could take a hit and still keep going, not worried about injuries to himself during this. If anything he wanted to encourage it.] That's it?! That's all you got?! [If Trunks was angry, then let him be angry. He's seen it happen, when Trunks started to snap; that time Vegeta had allowed Cell to get to his perfect form, when Trunks had tried to stop him. And he's seen what a Saiyan can do when they give into rage. Vegeta knew it all too well, but he also knew that giving in, letting that anger take over often meant he could move past it far fast than suppressing it. And right now Trunks needed that too.]
no subject
[Trunks all but snarled back, feeling that frustrated anger growing. A part of his brain reminded him--focus. Use the anger, if you're going to feel it.]
no subject
Which is it? You're faster in this but do nothing to me.
no subject
At least he could land a hit this way, hopefully. So Trunks dodged, then flipped to get some more space, and summoned more of his ki, letting the anger and rage fuel it. Moving into the bulkier form that was more than stronger, but slower when every micro-second to second counted.]
no subject
You ready? [Before dropping into more of a fighting stance than he had before.] Hit me. [A moment of flash back to when he had done this with his younger son... and when he had instinctively punched him back in the face. Vegeta had better control of it now, he would make sure it didn't happen again.]
no subject
[It was more of a growl than words, but Trunks meant it all the same. He's going on the offense this time, and once more fighting like his life is on the line. But while he's thoroughly frustrated-angry, part of his brain is watching. Looking for any opening.]
no subject
Good! Keep going! [And he was enjoying it too, a chance to spar against someone again, and even more so it being his son. He knows Trunks is a good fighter, a fast learner, just young and still picking out what is best for his form and style.]
no subject
That confusion Trunks was starting to feel ALSO frustrated him and just added to the anger. Still, his brain was turning. Trying to focus, notice any advantages he might get, any openings. When he remembered the weakness in this form...
Maybe, just maybe--an idea had started to form. It was worth a try, as trying something new earlier had seemed to work for a bit too. So Trunks moved to stay in close, watching, waiting. The timing on this would have to be perfect.]
no subject
no subject
There! He'd gotten his father to start striking back, and Trunks was watching for a combo. Again it was down to a second's timing, Trunks letting the more bulky form go. Sacrificing that strength for speed again, as he lashed out hard with a right cross. Nor was he holding back--he was going to land that hit, or fall over trying!]
no subject
It wasn't the hit that impressed Vegeta though, it was how Trunks had done it. That he had already started to work out what Vegeta had planned to teach him about this form. Slower than what was ideal, but it was a start, switching between forms to utilize the best of both.]
no subject
Heh... Told you to watch me.
[But now...now he's feeling the whole rollercoaster of it all. The frustration and anger all tangled, but with just...no more fuel to it. The confusion of elation and want for approval, acknowledgement, with suspicion and skepticism.
It takes the fight out of him, but Trunks knows better than to drop. He wants to, and he does, dropping to one knee. But he is maintaining his super-saiyan form by sheer will. He will not show more weakness, voluntarily at least, when he's already shown so much.]
no subject
no subject
Yes in some ways. Just...confused. Mostly good-confused.
[Now, to stand? Or to let go of super-saiyan. Because Trunks could tell he wasn't doing both. Holding it for another moment, before he got to his feet fully, letting the golden aura fade.]
I think I prefer this.
no subject
[Vegeta's about to add more to that, but is side tracked by Trunks.] What do you mean?
no subject
I could spend a year, like this spar.
[Because that should tell Vegeta enough.]
no subject
[However, there's something else to address that he was aware about, but hadn't bothered with until now, raising his voice to talk.] Stop hiding, you can come out now.
no subject
She'd been so enthralled by the spectacle that she'd briefly forgotten that energy-sensing goes both ways. So there's a quiet but audible curse from behind the door. Followed by the door creaking slowly open as she leans in, awkwardly waving her fingers.]
Um. Hi.
[No, that won't do, Cass. Dignity. She can do dignity, kind of.]
...Hello. Trunks. Vegeta. Hope I'm not interrupting.
[Note to self: work on learning to hide your energy.]
no subject
I hadn't realized you two had met.
no subject
He... also may not remember your name, sorry Cassie. Ki? Yes. Name? No.]
We're done. [Though as he announces this Vegeta cast a glance towards Trunks. He's pretty sure Trunks is more than done for training tonight, but he won't speak fully for him if he did change his mind.]
no subject
Couldn't not notice this fight, either, even from the other side of the train.
no subject
[A bit sheepish, one hand coming up to the back of his neck in nerves. Turning back towards Vegeta though, Trunks gives a small half-bow. An equally quiet "Thank you." as well.
He is definitely done for the night, and needs time to process things.]
Father, this is Cassie Cage. I train with her daily, and once a week push her to her limits. We're...we're also dating.
[It is a mark of just how tired he is, that there is no blush.]
no subject
no subject
[Yes, they can discuss the fighting parts instead of the other thing. She's usually far from shy to talk about it, but she's still not entirely certain how she feels about Vegeta.]
Don't think it's done him as much good as it's done me. I have to push beyond my limits 'til I fall over just to make him break a decent sweat, which means I'm getting better each time. But it could come in handy if he ever needs it.
no subject
[Trunks added and clarified.]
She's found other ways to use her ki effectively too.
[There is definite pride in his voice.]
no subject
Instead he focuses on the other part that catches his attention.] And you're training her. [Before wanting to confirm something with Cassie.] You're human?
no subject
But my universe doesn't know nearly as much about qi as yours does. Trunks and Piccolo have been getting me up to speed.
no subject
[Trunks reached up and rubbed the back of his neck. Tired, and also a bit of nerves.]
If she dropped down out of the sky on you, then that's what she did to me on platform day too. Then later that evening we sparred.
no subject
At the mention of Piccolo, Vegeta muttered to himself,] He has seem to be collecting more children to adopt. [Thinking to Piccolo's little intimidation act to him about he being in the same cabin as Madoka. He must be missing having Pan around.
Then focused on them once again, mostly the state Trunks was in.] Go and rest, we can arrange a training time later.
no subject
[She turns her attention toward Trunks's current condition. She certainly wouldn't say no to helping him to the showers.]
no subject
Yessir. Good night Father.
[There's another short half-bow, before Trunks is making his way over to Cassie slowly.]
no subject
Like a certain other figure he tends to take over for.]Night. [There's a chance Vegeta will still be training for a bit longer after this, but also more aware now that he should keep his ki down so to be less likely to wake or keep others awake from it.]
