A New Platform [Intro Post February]
On the Train
Three days after the Voidtreckers return to the void after their adventures on the biosphere world, they are awoken by a familiar announcement.
"Good morning passengers, it is day Sixteen of the month of Jelly. Points have been updated on the system."
They have indeed, and everyone can spend the morning shopping. Those who have been on the train for a while will also be expecting the second announcement that comes a few hours later.
"Shortly arriving into a designated void platform. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one." A lurch and a jolt and the windows fill with the fog that means they are at a platform. The fog seems thicker than usual and as they step out onto the platform they will find it is cold, very cold. Icy fog sticks to their clothing, makes it hard to see very far; the atmosphere is dark and gloomy.
As usual the first to leave the train notice nothing as they walk silently, rucksacks on their backs, towards the barriers: Alexis Rhodes, Elfnein, Itsuki Myoudouin, Ken Ichijouji, MT, Neku Sakuraba, Nike Lemercier, Noctis Lucis Caelum, Rainbow Dash, Rei Saotome, Taichi Yagami, Tsubomi Hanasaki, Yuri Tsukikage and Zechs Merquise all pass through the platform, not looking back before they disappear through the barriers and into the fog beyond.
But on the platform itself there are new faces. Wearing hoodies in all four colours, in various states of confusion.
For New Passengers
At first all they can see is steam, billowing around them as they come to their senses. As their eyes adjust, they will see they are on a platform, glass and dark stone rising in sturdy arches around them. Behind them is a set of barriers, and in front of them is a single track extending both ways into thick fog.
They are standing, in clothes that are not their own and a style they might not even recognise. They are carrying a rucksack on their back. For a moment it seems to just be them, alone in the white haze; then the steam begins to fade and they realise they aren’t alone.
The platform is not large with sixteen figures scattered around, all facing the tracks, all dressed in cargo trousers and hoodies. To both the left and right, tracks disappear into the mist. Then there is a roaring sound and out of the fog arrives a train. Jet black with gold writing on the side. The Voidtrecker Express. There is a hiss as the doors slide open and out step a strange assortment of people. Some are human, some are less so. Most are wearing the same hoodie in one of the four colours, red, orange, blue and purple, though some are sporting different clothes in a variety of styles.
The Train
After a short time, the doors hiss open again. Those from the train may encourage those on the platform to board. It’s not like there's anywhere else to go and even if there was, you feel a pull. A need to board, a feeling that staying on the platform would lead to something terrible. If that is not enough, there are plenty of people on the platform now, to encourage them onto the train.
Each ICP shows the same message and next to the screens there are stacks of leaflets written by those on the train, with further information (see
'Publications'). The store rooms have been restocked with fresh ingredients, including several crates of avocados, the ingredient of the month of Jelly, as well as all sundries.
For passengers that have bought items, these are also scattered around the luggage carriage in various suitcases and bags.
New passengers will find their ticket allows them into their cabins. They may need to negotiate for beds, especially if they want a top bunk!
Room is tight but there are storage cubbies at the head of each bed, beds fold up and the bottom bunks double as benches for the small table. There is storage under those benches full of spare blankets and pillows.
Departure
A second horn sounds to encourage any stragglers braving the freezing fog, and the doors slide shut. Veteran passengers know what will happen next, but they may wish to brief their new companions.
The train sets off, the fog obscuring the view again as it picks up speed.
"Welcome aboard, passengers of the Voidtrecker Express." A female-coded artificial sounding voice echoes throughout the train. "Please take the time to read the passenger information displayed on the Information and Communication points and familiarise yourself with the layout and emergency exits."
The train begins to tilt, leaving the ground and rising up into the fog-filled sky.
"Entrance into Voidspace imminent. New passengers are advised to remain seated. Entry into Voidspace in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."
A shudder, a jolt, a lurch to the left. A flash of light, colourful and blinding. As quick as it happens it is done. The train seems to steady itself. The fog from the windows is gone now, replaced with a kaleidoscope of ever-changing colours.

Welcome to the Void!

Cause that was just out of nowhere. Bam boom, it's here.

He makes a space between his hands that's basically adult cat size.
"That said, yeah, looks like some stuff I could use in there." He squints at some of the smaller tools. "Need to see what kinda metals y'all got."
no subject
He considered the question. "I'm not sure we have metal for public use. We might have some scavenged robot parts left that haven't been used or claimed. Otherwise it could be something people are using for personal use. You can borrow the toolbox for now, you just can't keep it indefinitely." He felt the need to add that since someone had already asked him if they could keep the tools before.
"I've got iron, but it's one of the items I barter with. I don't withhold things like food or water, or necessities of other kind, but I do barter with other things." Senku explained.
no subject
He had a good five minutes to get his new fin installed, and that was by a raccoon. A genius raccoon? But still a goddamn raccoon workin' at high speed, and that puts him in a position of uncertainty.
He's probably gonna have to go to medical, too. He's pretty sure most everything got patched up, but he did get shot in the head.
"I'm lookin' for somethin' lightweight. Probably a mesh with somethin' else. Can you order real specific types of metal? Like can they get the ones that only turn up on one world?"
If you can he might put that way on down his list.
no subject
"And I haven't seen any restrictions aside from restrictions around what books and knowledge we want. The train seems to be censoring what we can know about the train and the void outside."
no subject
But hey, that means he can get some Yaka metal and maybe some other small supplies. It's backburner stuff. He knows that, at the moment, his arrow works just fine. It'll do him until he has some stuff saved up and he knows a little better what's around/what he's up against.
"You ain't gonna know the truth until you hear five differ'nt people tell it to you. Just in sayin' fact, the way the words come out, you're hearin' a version of it from one perspective no matter how sterile they try to be. So let's say you get around the censorship one day, I'd not count on knowin' the truth about this thing if you only find a source or two. Settle in for a long haul."
no subject
"I understand that very well. I'm a scientist, primarily, so the data to me is all about how things can be replicated, that's what makes things constant. I don't believe anything the train tells me without seeing proof." He wasn't sure the answers to their questions were true either. He was naturally skeptical.
no subject
Senku isn't a machine. And even if he was, machines got their own versions of wants and needs. It's going to make someone jump the gun.
"Pretty much, get somebody that'll slap you upside the head in case someone tries to make you into a fool."
no subject
He quirked a small smile. "What wants and insecurities are those?" He was somewhat curious as to what Yondu meant exactly.
"It's incredibly difficult to pull one over on me, but I do have back up. One of my generals is here with me anyway. I'm sure if someone was going to make a fool of me, the Mentalist would have a lot to say about it."
no subject
"Sounds to me right now you wanna know your situation. Now, I do too? But hoo boy, you're gettin' that old 'I'm gonna take down my age old enemy' gaze just talkin' about it. Best you keep your general guy informed."
no subject
"Not to worry, I keep him abreast of everything." He said with a bit of a wave. "I'm also very very patient. Dealing with my adversary in my world I've only been waiting about....3723 years to talk to him. I can wait."
no subject
Because he does not look that old, and that's even judging from Kree ages.
no subject
"I spent much of it petrified into a real human statue with nothing but my consciousness for company." He explained. "I counted the time it'd been since we were petrified so I'd know what the date was when that ended. Then when I broke free, of course, civilization was completely gone, disintegrated into nothing, so after figuring out how to keep myself alive, I started working on a way to revive other humans. At the point I left, we're working on a variety of technological advancements, so we can apply them and get more people to be reanimated."
So, yes, to answer Yondu's question properly, he usually was the smartest man in the room. "It's a good thing I was already a devotee of scientific pursuits went the petrification happened. I wanted to be an astronaut."
no subject
"Maybe if you're lucky your universe'll be different from mine. Just more assholes out there in space. Not missin' much."
no subject
Whether or not he was nuts was a matter of opinion.
"Humanity hadn't had the pleasure, but since we've pinpointed what communication we've had to the moon, there's definitely at least one asshole in space." He said with a bit of a snort.
no subject
He knows some people strong enough to pull off that kind of thing. Ones that you probably wouldn't want to mess with alone. Though Yondu wasn't great at exacting justice or revenge. Most he did was rob the Kree blind here and there, and his first big act of direct defiance was more to save Quill. Havin' at Ego was just a happy aside.
"Guess someone must have pissed 'em off pretty bad if they didn't even wanna settle. Just turned y'all to stone an' left."
no subject
He considered his thoughts for a moment. "We've moved from the stone age to the industrial revolution in some ways, but others are still stuck in the past. It's a complex thing."
no subject
From what he remembers of it, anyway. It's a foggy memory, and a lot of it that he could hang onto was thanks to reminders that other Centaurians the Kree kept ran by him.
"Guess it doesn't matter so long as you get just enough people to do your thing."
no subject
He tilted his head. "We have about a hundred and fifty. It's enough to maintain how things are right now, without facing the consequences of overpopulation, but we don't have reliable food sources, so waking up more people would be a challenge, people might begin dying of starvation again."
no subject
Which might be for the best. Let him think about something logistical like that for a while, and not just finding the guys that did it.
no subject
"The kids in the village are learning the basics of reading and writing, that's as far as they've gotten right now and Chrome and I..." He paused. "Well we're not the same age because he's one of the villagers, but he's my protege, and we'd have to focus on teaching things to more people. I do a lot of teaching as it is."
He pressed his lips together. "And it's still trying to petrify us."
