Yondu is wearing a ravager coat instead of his team hoodie, though without it's flames. He comes in and finds a seat to wait for the doc, not sure of the protocols. Bell to ring? Do you just holler? What?

When someone finally does come in, he explains himself.

He gestures around his head. "Centaurians are born with fins. Mine got cut out an' replaced with a cybernetic piece when I was real young. Now, I had a busy day before the train picked me up. I fought a planet. I got busted around by a big guy that thought he was important. I was shot in my old fin, an' I had to get it fast replaced by this prototype. Not in that order.

"This was done by a scientifically augmented Terran animal. Said he was a raccoon? And he was smart, but he was still an animal and we only had about five minutes to work with. So it should be all situated, but I gotta check an' make sure the attachments on the fin are good an' nothin' got uprooted from the original nerves there."

Devero's the one to enter first, arriving as soon as he can after stopping by the armoury to retrieve one of his purchases at the last platform. He's got a sleek-looking case in hand as he ducks into the room, bobbing his head at-- he never caught a name, did he.

Regardless, he listens, even as he sets his case on the little counter in the exam room and opens it up to reveal a kit crammed full of electronics tools from his world. He's very focused on the contents until-- hold on, what.

"Wait, wait, did you just say a raccoon installed your augment?" he asks in absolute bafflement.

"That is, unfortunately, exactly what I said..."

He cringes as he nods, jagged teeth showing with the wince. "I mean, he had somethin' done to make him hyper intelligent. But he got them tiny hands and bad tools and had to work quick."

The look on his face just reeks of, Yeah, I don't even know, but I'm here now.

"I wish I could say that's the weirdest thing I've heard, but since I showed up on this crazy train, a hyper-intelligent raccoon maybe scrapes into the bottom of the top 5," Devero says with a shake of his head.

"But I've got big hands and good tools, so let's see what I can do for you." He approaches, 100% not showing his nerves at dealing with directly implanted augment tech. At least he has a little experience, having worked some on Soldat's arm?

Then again, Soldat's arm was not wired directly into their brain.

He is very relieved to find that the whole unit detaches, at least, once he's got a couple of picks into the very discreet latches. "What's this meant to do, anyway?" he asks once he's got it off, turning the cybernetic piece over in his hands as he stands back.

"Reads the layout of a room. Helps me out in a fight." He summarizes, not getting into the arrow bit. Not yet.

"It's got pretty good range. So far on the train it's just been able to help me with a single car. Back home I could get an idea of all the rooms around us. Hell, if there was a ship nearby I could tell where the passenger seat was. But I feel like that's a train thing happenin' and not a hardware failure."

And right now, everything's muffled. He'll accept it.

He tips his head to Ichigo, the metal base of where the fin attaches and its criss-cross of wires showing. "I got knocked around a bunch. Fists. Butt of a gun. Rock tentacle. All that I'm not worried about unless it knocked somethin' related to my fin loose."

He's got some bruises, faint green in his blue skin, but nothing's broken.

"Last thing I remember I was-" That's his first real moment where he sounds like it affected him in any way. "-Well I didn't expect to be alive when I ended up on the train. I was exposed to space with no sorta protective gear." He really, really wishes this damn train had beer. "Seems like it saw fit to bring me without that much mess."

"It's pretty close to Terran. One heart, two lungs. Digestives in the same places. My bloods a lil bit darker, though. I couldn't get technical about that."

Then he grunts.

"I felt it all, right up to the end. Still ain't sure how real all this is. But if it is, I just need to make sure it's all workin'."

"Far as I've been able to tell, it's real enough," he murmurs from the counter, where he's taken Yondu's augment. "Either that, or we are all very complicated figments of someone's imagination, but Occam's Razor, and all of that."

He commandeers the exam room stool and sits, opening up his tool case and spreading out a thin silicone mat from inside as a workspace. Time to open this baby up and check the sensors!

He does glance over at Yondu from where he sits to say, "You aren't the only dead or nearly-dead man to end up here, if it makes you feel any better."

"Worst I've done is drink some and even then I did just at stops. I keep my wits about me. I was the captain so I had to be ready to get to my feet if I needed. I just get knocked around."

Meaning that, for the most part, he's taken care of himself. Technically his weight is even pretty healthy, if the high end. No smoke. But still, every once in a while he has a flashback to the feel of oxygen being ripped out of his lungs.

The sensors stay active. Certain pressure lights up threads of them, illuminating the fin. He pulls his coat a little, covering the end of his holster and the thick material hiding the fact the battery gem sparks to life in location response. It won't do anything without him 'telling' it to, but he still guards it as he sits up. It's at least assuring him that it's working.

"What are you-- er, were you-- the captain of?" Devero knows he should be focusing on his work, but he can't help but be interested.

He is, at least, good at multitasking? And so far it looks like everything's in decent shape inside Yondu's augment. He can't see any gross mechanical breaks in the wiring, at least, and he seems to be getting live responses to every connection he tests. So that's a positive so far.

"Ravager crew. It is what it sounds like. Think pirate fleet with a code." One that he broke, but he hopes that he can atone.

"Well, I was tied to a chair and kicked around for a while, but I just got bruises out of that. Busted lip. Still got all my teeth," even the ones he's lost before in fights, all replaced. "Most of those feel like they eased up. Then I crashed a ship and blah blah fought rocks with sticks and got crushed under a stone tentacle and it was all a damn mess. I don't think anything broke permanent though. Not if my breathin' sounds good."

He sits more level for the reflex test. It's good to see there doesn't seem to be a fin issue so far- that one was meant to be hardier than his aging model from before.

"Yondu, did you just 'yadda yadda' fighting a god?"

[personal profile] subcircuits 2021-02-20 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Rust and ruin," Devero breathes, actually setting down his tools and turning to look at Yondu. "What the hell were you even fighting? Rock monsters?"

He can't even begin to picture what had happened to him based on that somewhat sparse description.
yondu: (0 1 1)

Yes. And just jumping in again I guess 'cause I can't help it.

[personal profile] yondu 2021-02-20 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yondu sighs with the sigh of a man that realizes he has to make his story sound more ridiculous to be accurate.

"Well, it was somethin' called a Celestial. An' a Celestial is a little bit like a god, this'n had made his own planet and could form his own everything out of nothin' and was a pretty big asshole 'cause that weren't enough I guess. An' turns out the only way to kill a Celestial is to blow up his inside. Also turns out when you kill a Celestial that planet goes away entirely and when you only got one spacesuit for breathin' an' you got two people, your boy is the one you give it to."

So he fought a god with a raccoon and his son and he won, but then was spaced.

He fought a planet. He fought a whole-ass planet that was also like-a-god. "That's incredible," he says frankly. And then, softer, "You know if your boy made it out...?"

His red eyes follow Ichigo's lead first, before he says anything.

"He was alive when I last saw him. His buddies and his ship was nearby, too. So I reckon he made it."

He hopes he did. And that might be the softest his gruff voice has gotten since he got in there. Even if that's a stretch, considering how bedraggled it is. In a human it sounds like he might have been a heavy smoker once upon a time. In his case, Centaurian vocals were just never made for common speech use even if he's gotten accustomed to it.

"I dunno if somethin' lucky comin' out of somethin' shitty is a miracle, but the son of a bitch is dead and even if I was messed up, I would have taken it over him keepin' on. Speakin' of which, ever'thin' in workin' order?" He reaches up to touch the ridge around his absent fin, wincing at it.
subcircuits: (stunned)

[personal profile] subcircuits 2021-03-03 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good. He must have." Devero asserts it confidently, and seems legitimately glad to hear it.

He's not as confident about the whole 'the son of a bitch is dead' part, but that's okay, he can focus on Yondu's tech instead. "As far as I can tell, everything's intact," he says, starting to close up the casing of the fin itself.

...Which means it's time to look at Yondu's head. Oh boy.

He takes a deep breath, composing himself before he turns away from the counter and returns to Yondu's side. "All right, let me see this baseplate," he says, as if he looks at technology that's wired up into someone's brain on a daily basis.

"My eyes don't feel no different, anyway." At least not in any way he's noticed.

He tips his head forward. "The Kree installed this on me a few years before I was sprung- they like enhancing their battle slaves. It's never given me trouble 'cause it was made for a rough life, but I've never been shot in the head before." It's one of those things that can't really be removed for obvious reasons. The harsh part is that it doesn't take a terribly discerning eye to tell that whoever put it in wasn't really caring if the edges healed clean or not. But it's been there for a very long time. The fin itself is considerably newer than the baseplate, which is decades old.

At least it's still functional. There is a blaster scorch burn along some of the surface wiring, which Rocket somewhat sufficiently repaired.
subcircuits: (thanks for the sucker punch)

[personal profile] subcircuits 2021-03-05 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Battle slave. What the fuck. Devero clenches his teeth and makes a determined effort not to let that throw him as he looks through his Interface and zooms in on the electronics.

"Vice and virtue," he swears softly. "You're lucky that shot didn't burn this out." The damage is obvious. The field-repair is obvious too, but it makes his mechanic's heart clench to see what should be clean circuity looking so jerry-rigged. It's almost enough to distract him from, you know, the fact that this thing is a legitimate and complex transcytokinetic Implant.

"I'd like to strip and replace some of this damaged wiring," he says, switching his Interface camera back to normal magnification. He straightens up and steps back. "Everything looks functional but I don't know that I'd call it stable."
yondu: (1 9 8)

[personal profile] yondu 2021-03-10 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
"You might as well say I'm lucky the shot didn't kill me. Yeah, I know it's a mess. I don't figure this train gives you an instructional in Kree-tech, but I'll assure you that it's bolted in there good and this was done so long ago my skull's all fused around it. Do what you gotta do to the wires, it won't come loose, and I'll let you know if I start feelin' anything funny."

He sits up as straight as he can. He's only met a few Japanese people yet even if the train is full of them, his ass is very new, so he's never been called anything like 'Yondu-san' before. The translator kind of clears it up, but he makes a little bit of a confused face.

"Yeah, alright."
