A New Platform [Intro Post March]
On the Train
Once again passengers are awoken by the morning announcement.
"Good morning passengers, it is day One of the month of Kazoo. Points have been updated on the system."
They have indeed, and everyone can spend the morning shopping. Those who have been on the train for a while will also be expecting the second announcement that comes a few hours later.
"Shortly arriving into a designated void platform. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one." A lurch and a jolt and the windows fill with the fog that means they are at a platform. The fog is thick, the air is warm and humid and there are rumbles of thunder, the air heavy with the promise of rain.
As usual the first to leave the train notice nothing as they walk silently, rucksacks on their backs, towards the barriers: Alfredo Martini, Daia, Enna Alchiba, Lord El-Melloi II, Natsuno Yuuki, Nita Callahan, Saku Gyousou, Sakura, V and Wen Qing
But on the platform itself there are new faces. Wearing hoodies in all four colours, in various states of confusion.
For New Passengers
At first all they can see is steam, billowing around them as they come to their senses. As their eyes adjust, they will see they are on a platform, glass and dark stone rising in sturdy arches around them. Behind them is a set of barriers, and in front of them is a single track extending both ways into thick fog.
They are standing, in clothes that are not their own and a style they might not even recognise. They are carrying a rucksack on their back. For a moment it seems to just be them, alone in the white haze; then the steam begins to fade and they realise they aren’t alone.
The platform is not large, and seems smaller with twenty-seven figures scattered around. All facing the tracks, all dressed in cargo trousers and hoodies. To both the left and right, tracks disappear into the mist.
A roaring sound, and out of the fog arrives a train. Jet black with gold writing on the side. The Voidtrecker Express. There is a hiss as the doors slide open and out step a strange assortment of people. Some are human, some are less so. Most are wearing the same hoodie in one of the four colours, red, orange, blue and purple, though some are sporting different clothes in a variety of styles.
The Train
After a short time, the doors hiss open again. Those from the train may encourage those on the platform to board. It’s not like there's anywhere else to go and even if there was, you feel a pull. A need to board, a feeling that staying on the platform would lead to something terrible. If that is not enough, there are plenty of people on the platform now, to encourage them onto the train.
Each ICP shows the same message and next to the screens there are stacks of leaflets written by those on the train, with further information (see
'Publications'). Those not new to the train will note the addition of an eighth sleeper carriage. The store rooms have been restocked with fresh ingredients, it seems the month of Kazoo is defined by the tomato and there are plenty of them.
For passengers that have bought items, these are also scattered around the luggage carriage in various suitcases and bags.
New passengers will find their ticket allows them into their cabins. They may need to negotiate for beds, especially if they want a top bunk!
Room is tight but there are storage cubbies at the head of each bed, beds fold up and the bottom bunks double as benches for the small table. There is storage under those benches full of spare blankets and pillows.
Departure
A second horn sounds to encourage any stragglers as thunder rumbles further and the storm threatens to break. The doors slide shut. Veteran passengers know what will happen next, but they may wish to brief their new companions.
The train sets off, the fog obscuring the view again as it picks up speed.
"Welcome aboard, passengers of the Voidtrecker Express." A female-coded artificial sounding voice echoes throughout the train. "Please take the time to read the passenger information displayed on the Information and Communication points and familiarise yourself with the layout and emergency exits."
The train begins to tilt, leaving the ground and rising up into the fog-filled sky.
"Entrance into Voidspace imminent. New passengers are advised to remain seated. Entry into Voidspace in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."
A shudder, a jolt, a lurch to the left. A flash of light, colourful and blinding. As quick as it happens it is done. The train seems to steady itself. The fog from the windows is gone now, replaced with a kaleidoscope of ever-changing colours.
Welcome to the Void!

Welcome to the Void!

--No, something isn't right here. Ken's brow furrows slightly. Someone who meant him ill wouldn't bother learning or using his family nickname, would they? And her tone....Her confusion, as well...
She knew Wormmon, but not him. What could that mean?
"Right," he admits; he's holding onto Wormmon, so no matter what is happening here, there is no avoiding just how incredibly Ichijouji Ken(-chan) he is. "You are...?"
no subject
"--Ken-chan!" Her eyes widen.
"You look so... young!"
no subject
HUUUUUUHHHHHHHH?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!
Wormmon is no longer afraid. Instead, Wormmon is sitting up in Ken's hold, looking from Eight to Ken in alarm. She's touching - she's -
Ken-chan!
"What's she doing??"
"U-um...." Having his hair touched out of nowhere is making Ken's cheeks flush a little. Right, he just - has to say it, and clear this up. "Have we met?
"I'm sorry," he immediately amends, since she's clearly so happy to see him, and he hates doing this to someone who's so pleased by his presence, even if he doesn't know why. "My memories are unclear."
no subject
"You're right... please forgive my forwardness."
"It is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Agent Eight. We... have met, but perhaps not yet?" Ah, but perhaps not ever. After all, Ken did not have the same reaction on meeting her the first time.
"Wormmon." She looked up at him, before continuing the conversation. "Do you not know who I am too?"
no subject
Ken contemplates the situation, gaze turning inward (and therefore immediately looking way more like the older Ken, because all Kens do this when Percolating). "Not yet...."
....something's nagging at him. Something about this is similar to another adventure he's had. What is it? He needs to ask more questions, tease it out.
"Are you saying - " he begins, cautiously, "we meet in my future?"
no subject
But assuming he was the same Ken would that not mean that he had forgotten her? And if that was the case, then this meeting did not leave a lasting impact on him to be deemed worthy of his recollection.
Well, that was okay.
"Yes we did. Though I suspect having you remember your future would be pretty impossible, is it?" She chuckled. "Here." She extended a hand. "Let me show you on board, if it pleases you?"
no subject
So Ken smiles, moves Wormmon so he can hold him one-armed, and accepts that hand. "Gladly."
He's going to trust his future self, and follow her wherever she sees fit to lead him.
no subject
While they are going she motions to an ICP panel. "...and these, you found particularly interesting. This is the comm interface to the rest of the train. Except for the quiet cars, you will find that anyone can be reached anywhere using this system."
"And before you ask, no, they will not connect you to the Digital World."
no subject
He seems to have been the sort of person that Eight would like. He seems to have been someone she...dare he wonder if she considered him a friend?)
This impression is strengthened by that last comment. His mouth opens before he realizes he's going to speak. "You watched me try to go to the Digital World?"
no subject
Actually that raised an important question. "Do you have it now? Perhaps you can try again?"
no subject
Ken slips a hand into all the pockets on his new outfit. Nothing.
"I'll check the bag." Cue Wormmon diving headfirst and rummaging around, Ken's new knapsack a waggling blob on his back.
He emerges with a sock over one antenna and shakes his head. "Ken-chan, it's not here!"
"...I traveled worlds without my Digivice." This baffles Ken. The Digivice links him to Wormmon. Why would the train have neglected to include it?
no subject
"I don't think you ever found it then, too. Do you need it?" His worry was present last time, too, but this incarnation seemed... more so? Or perhaps it was his presumed youth.
no subject
"The Digivice is what lets me send strength to Wormmon. It's a symbol of our bond. If we were brought here without it, then I'm not sure why we were chosen, or what we need to do."
"It's okay. Whether I can evolve or not, I'll DEFINITELY protect you!!"
no subject
"Of what... I have seen. The train picks people with a variety of skills. Sometimes it may be that they pick not based on what you have now, but what you may potentially develop."
She folded her arms, peering over him with scrutiny. "Of what I have seen you will find a way beyond that limitation. Or are you truly that dependent on your technology?" Even when she didn't have her tools, Eight still sought to find ways to make herself useful. Of what she had seen, Ken was capable of doing the same, even if he didn't realize it.
Perhaps all he needed was a gentle push.
1/2 i paid for these icons i'mma use 'em
He doesn't want that. Why doesn't he want that?
Oh. He wants to help the train. He has only just gotten here, but he already wants to help the train. It makes him happy to think that there's a way he can be of help to others.
2/2
"Don't push yourself. We'll find it."
Ken nods. He's all-in. And resembles, though he has no way of knowing it, his future self.
I see nothing wrong with this.
"Wormmon is right. There's no need to rush too fast. And don't forget we're here to help you should you need it."
...words that she herself should take to heart, really.
no subject
Ken's cheeks flush in spite of himself. He may not fully understand why he's being so encouraged, but - it helps. It really does.
He's not the person who wants to be alone any more, after all.
"Thank you."
Wormmon gurgles, content.
