A New Platform [Intro Post March]
On the Train
Once again passengers are awoken by the morning announcement.
"Good morning passengers, it is day One of the month of Kazoo. Points have been updated on the system."
They have indeed, and everyone can spend the morning shopping. Those who have been on the train for a while will also be expecting the second announcement that comes a few hours later.
"Shortly arriving into a designated void platform. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one." A lurch and a jolt and the windows fill with the fog that means they are at a platform. The fog is thick, the air is warm and humid and there are rumbles of thunder, the air heavy with the promise of rain.
As usual the first to leave the train notice nothing as they walk silently, rucksacks on their backs, towards the barriers: Alfredo Martini, Daia, Enna Alchiba, Lord El-Melloi II, Natsuno Yuuki, Nita Callahan, Saku Gyousou, Sakura, V and Wen Qing
But on the platform itself there are new faces. Wearing hoodies in all four colours, in various states of confusion.
For New Passengers
At first all they can see is steam, billowing around them as they come to their senses. As their eyes adjust, they will see they are on a platform, glass and dark stone rising in sturdy arches around them. Behind them is a set of barriers, and in front of them is a single track extending both ways into thick fog.
They are standing, in clothes that are not their own and a style they might not even recognise. They are carrying a rucksack on their back. For a moment it seems to just be them, alone in the white haze; then the steam begins to fade and they realise they aren’t alone.
The platform is not large, and seems smaller with twenty-seven figures scattered around. All facing the tracks, all dressed in cargo trousers and hoodies. To both the left and right, tracks disappear into the mist.
A roaring sound, and out of the fog arrives a train. Jet black with gold writing on the side. The Voidtrecker Express. There is a hiss as the doors slide open and out step a strange assortment of people. Some are human, some are less so. Most are wearing the same hoodie in one of the four colours, red, orange, blue and purple, though some are sporting different clothes in a variety of styles.
The Train
After a short time, the doors hiss open again. Those from the train may encourage those on the platform to board. It’s not like there's anywhere else to go and even if there was, you feel a pull. A need to board, a feeling that staying on the platform would lead to something terrible. If that is not enough, there are plenty of people on the platform now, to encourage them onto the train.
Each ICP shows the same message and next to the screens there are stacks of leaflets written by those on the train, with further information (see
'Publications'). Those not new to the train will note the addition of an eighth sleeper carriage. The store rooms have been restocked with fresh ingredients, it seems the month of Kazoo is defined by the tomato and there are plenty of them.
For passengers that have bought items, these are also scattered around the luggage carriage in various suitcases and bags.
New passengers will find their ticket allows them into their cabins. They may need to negotiate for beds, especially if they want a top bunk!
Room is tight but there are storage cubbies at the head of each bed, beds fold up and the bottom bunks double as benches for the small table. There is storage under those benches full of spare blankets and pillows.
Departure
A second horn sounds to encourage any stragglers as thunder rumbles further and the storm threatens to break. The doors slide shut. Veteran passengers know what will happen next, but they may wish to brief their new companions.
The train sets off, the fog obscuring the view again as it picks up speed.
"Welcome aboard, passengers of the Voidtrecker Express." A female-coded artificial sounding voice echoes throughout the train. "Please take the time to read the passenger information displayed on the Information and Communication points and familiarise yourself with the layout and emergency exits."
The train begins to tilt, leaving the ground and rising up into the fog-filled sky.
"Entrance into Voidspace imminent. New passengers are advised to remain seated. Entry into Voidspace in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."
A shudder, a jolt, a lurch to the left. A flash of light, colourful and blinding. As quick as it happens it is done. The train seems to steady itself. The fog from the windows is gone now, replaced with a kaleidoscope of ever-changing colours.
Welcome to the Void!

Welcome to the Void!
no subject
Even not knowing him at all he had trusted him. Of course at that age he had trusted far too easily but even now as an adult he knows Roland isn't going to harm him, had cared for Lord Gyousou, was someone he could trust.
"You've done so much already." He whispered into his shoulder.
Nothing could bring Lord Gyousou back. He's not even sure the train itself can do that. He's gone, he can't feel the ouki anymore, except for the tendril of it left in Inigo. There is a shadow over his heart. No kirin can ever be happy when seperated from its king.
no subject
But Roland knows grief well. He lives with it tucked close, in varying shades and strokes coloring his heart on different days. It throbs at times, when he remembers all that he has lost. Then when he is calmed, when he is surrounded by good company and those who care about him now, he remembers that grief is a friend that needs time to find a new role within your heart. A space it can occupy without hurting you the way it did before.
So too would Taiki need time to take his grief and mold it into an acceptable shape within his soul. Time, that could make grief into his friend, his companion to remember Gyousou as he lived on without him. For now.
For now... His hand gently grips his opposite shoulder, gaze focused on the empty spot at the table.
"You'll meet again." Roland says, knowing he doesn't know if that will ever come true.
It doesn't matter. It is words made manifest his belief. He repeats it for Taiki, again. Stronger.
"You will meet again. So until that day comes, stay here with us. We'll find ways together. We'll try to be strong together. I promise."
no subject
He fears what Tai will be like when they return, it was one thing when they were both here, when all they had to do was find a way home but now he had lost his king again.
Roland is right though, they were better together, stronger together. Though Taiki doubted he made anyone stronger himself, he knew he couldn't do this alone.
If it hadn't been for others he would have died on Hourai. "Thank you..."
Roland might not think he were doing much, but he was. Just by being here, his presence was calming.
Nothing would make up for the loss of his king, but not being completely alone helped.
no subject
He's shared enough with Roland for him to grant similar sympathies. There's no shortage of uncertainty on this train, and it's even worse for Taiki when there's nothing to cling to; their land is war-torn, and his king's already been through the ringer. There really are no words of comfort that could heal this pain, abate the grief. Only time will tell, and perhaps, good company too. He doesn't know if he can provide that as well as others can, but he sure will try his best.
Roland sighs deeply, yet quietly, patting Taiki's arm softly.
"I have some new books." He eventually says. "Wanna read some of them with me?" To take his mind off of things. It's not a permanent solution, but it's all Roland can offer.
no subject
He appreciates the distraction, nodding at the offer. "If... As long as you don't mind."
It won't take his mind off things really, but spending time with a friend was better than being alone.
no subject
Roland mentally checks out everything else he wanted to do, but doesn't tell Taiki that he's basically cleared out his arbitrary schedule to keep him company. He's starting to understand the way Taiki thinks, the more they do, the more time they spend togther. Never wanting to be a burden, never wanting people to overly worry.
So he'll keep that to himself, summoning an activity book he had just bought from the shop with a list of things to do per page. Enough to fill three hundred or so, one cool thing to do every single day. Some ask to list down favorite things, favorite foods. Others are deeper; asking about what you would write to your future self.
He keeps close and lets Taiki flip the pages, and he is content to help stave off the grief from a dear friend, if only for a time. Roland knows this is what Lord Gyousou would want for his kirin, his partner, his dearest companion, too.
To not be alone.
no subject
He's not seen an activity book like this before, clearly made for adults. Some of the listing activities seem a little overwhelming for right now but he flicks through slowly, sometimes pausing to read a page more carefully.
"Did you get this today?"
no subject
And truth be told, he needs a break from the bleak descriptions of being told you might not be able to untether without finishing the task - whatever that is - or that death in the void is the norm. Because you'd be revived over and over again...He shakes this off and flips the page.
"This book's supposed to give you a new thing to do or ask someone for three hundred and sixty five days. So the equivalent of one, Earth year." Roland adds. His finger goes through the words, as he says it out loud at the same time.
"This one's asking you to list down all the things you can remember being afraid of, then crossing out the ones that you've gotten over." He smiles at Taiki, glancing down at the kirin. "Wanna give it a whirl?"
no subject
He looks down at the page, all the things he can remember being afraid of. He glanced up at Roland and nodded.
"Um... Okay."
All the things? Taiki is not sure there is enough space on that page for all the things he has ever feared...
