"...I'm lucky, I suppose," he says, tone also going softer. "Jade and I have a complicated history, but I'd consider him a friend. There are certainly people I wouldn't want to be here, either."

She isn't paranoid from nowhere, that much at least he's certain of. And so it's perfectly reasonable that there's plenty of people she wouldn't want to be here with her. It's hard to tell if there's anyone she actually feels positively about.
