A New Platform [Intro Post May]

On the Train

Like clockwork, the Voidtreckers are awoken by a familiar message this morning.

"Good morning Voidtreckers, it is day one of the month of Llama. Points have been updated on the system."

With points updated, everyone can spend the morning shopping. Most people will be expecting the second announcement that comes a few hours later.

"Shortly arriving into a designated void platform. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one." A lurch and a jolt and the windows fill with the fog that means they are at a platform. The air is sticky and warm, the windows almost immediately dewing over with the humidity outside.

As usual the first to leave the train notice nothing, walking silently, rucksacks on their backs, towards the barriers. Azula, Prisoner, Amery Vallet, Dyme Graydon, Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez, Yoite, Piccolo, Bulla Brief, Xie Lian, Kurosaki Ichigo, Hua Cheng, Renee Corbin, and Ran Mouri; all pass through the platform, not looking back before they disappear through the barriers and into the fog beyond.

But on the platform itself there are new faces. Wearing hoodies in all four colours, in various states of confusion.

For New Passengers

At first all they can see is steam billowing around them as they come to their senses. As their eyes adjust, they find themselves on a platform, rich wood and pale stone forming a natural, tree-like structure overhead. Behind them is a set of barriers, and in front of them is a single set of tracks extending both ways into thick fog. The air is rainforest-hot, and the sound of frogsong can be faintly heard over the drip of the artificial canopy.

They are standing, in clothes that are not their own and a style they might not even recognise. They are carrying a rucksack on their back. For a moment it seems to just be them, alone in the white haze; then the fog begins to fade and they realise they aren’t alone.

The platform isn't large, and seems smaller with twenty-eight figures scattered around, all facing the tracks, all dressed in cargo trousers and hoodies. Then there is a roaring sound and out of the fog arrives a train. Jet black with gold writing on the side. The Voidtrecker Express. There is a hiss as the doors slide open and out pours a strange assortment of people, over a hundred at least. Some are human, some are less so. Most are wearing the same hoodie in one of the four colours, red, orange, blue and purple, though some are sporting different clothes in a variety of styles.

Behind them, the doors close, and the train is cloaked in the same fog that hides the world beyond the platform.

The Train

After a short time, the fog clears and the doors hiss open again. Those from the train may encourage those on the platform to board. It’s not like there's anywhere else to go and even if there was, you feel a pull. A need to board, a feeling that staying on the platform would lead to something terrible. If that is not enough, there are plenty of people on the platform now, to encourage them onto the train.

Each ICP shows the same message and next to the screens there are stacks of leaflets written by those on the train, with further information (see
'Publications'). The store rooms have been restocked with fresh ingredients, including several crates of nori, the ingredient of the month of Llama, as well as all sundries.

For passengers that have bought items, these are also scattered around the luggage carriage in various suitcases and bags. For each member of Purple Team, a small silver box with their name on it contains a glittery cupcake.

New passengers will find their ticket allows them into their cabins. They may need to negotiate for beds, but at least they won't be alone in their confusion - since the sleeper carriages are now double-decker, and experience isn't going to avail the passengers in finding their rooms.

Room is tight but there are storage cubbies at the head of each bed, beds fold up and the bottom bunks double as benches for the small table. There is storage under those benches full of spare blankets and pillows.

The new double carriage's transfer ICP is active, allowing people to move to a double room should they meet the requirements with another person, though they'll have to move their belongings themselves.

Departure

A second horn sounds to encourage any stragglers taking advantage of the fresh air, and the doors slide shut. Veteran passengers know what will happen next, but they may wish to brief their new companions.

The train sets off, the fog obscuring the view again as it picks up speed.

"Welcome aboard, passengers of the Voidtrecker Express." A female-coded artificial sounding voice echoes throughout the train. "Please take the time to read the passenger information displayed on the Information and Communication points and familiarise yourself with the layout and emergency exits."

The train begins to tilt, leaving the ground and rising up into the fog-filled sky.

"Entrance into Voidspace imminent. New passengers are advised to remain seated. Entry into Voidspace in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."

A shudder, a jolt, a lurch to the left. A flash of light, colourful and blinding. As quick as it happens it is done. The train seems to steady itself. The fog from the windows is gone now, replaced with a kaleidoscope of ever-changing colours.

Welcome to the Void!

"Ha, thanks." Demyx grinned. He liked it when people liked his music, even if that was a little bit prideful.

"I don't mind. It doesn't bother me." Talking didn't seem to bother him either, the way he was carrying on.

"By the way, I didn't get to tell ya after that whole fight, but ya did a good job out there."

Yondu's trying to make it more of a habit of telling people they did well. He realizes that he got fed up with his crew bein' idiots. It tainted him to the point that he just didn't dole out compliments like he used to. They plain old didn't deserve 'em.

But the people here are competant. It's worth saying so.

He ducked his head a little bit, like he wasn't sure what to do with that. "Uh, thanks." Demyx said.

"It was nothing really." He wasn't sure what he thought about the mission so he was doing what he did best - overthinking it and ignoring it. Two for one.

He was full of conflicting feelings he shouldn't be having, and it was a little rough.

"Nah, in the end ya won. That's somethin'."

But he's not meaning to ploy someone's damaged emotions. Just give him some approval for doing decent.

"I take it ya learned in the world... multi-world hub thing, whatever it was that Vexen learned in?"

"My sitar?" Demyx asked and then laughed lightly. "No."

He considered for a moment if Yondu meant the fighting. "If you mean combat and stuff uh, well, maybe? I'm not sure. Possibly." He'd thought so but things were complicated.

[personal profile] yondu 2021-05-02 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Welp. That sounds definitely like it'll be the more complicated question.

"The sitar, then. Where'd ya pick that up?"

There's a whole lotta confusion for the guy. He's just not gonna go near that quite yet. It seems like ever'body from that whole world's got some sorta memory or personality adventure. That might just be ever'body on the train though.
melodiouspacifist: (Nort Yeah yeah I'm on it)

[personal profile] melodiouspacifist 2021-05-02 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It was unlucky that Yondu was trying to avoid his confusion, because he managed to hit on it again.

"Wherever I came from originally." Demyx said, his tone still cheerful, but he looked a bit apologetic.

He didn't know. He couldn't remember the name of the world he came from.

"Y'all just got the raw end of every kinda memory deal, didn't ya?" This is what he's gathered. Either the memories aren't there. Or they're there, and they don't remember how they got 'em. Or they're there and they're all flavored in 'I went bullshit nuts and hurt some people' guilt.

But, honestly, he gets that.

"I guess it don't matter 'cause it's yours now. That's usually the attitude I take with that sorta thing." He's sorry to hear it's so complicated, though.

"I don't really remember my Somebody's life." Demyx explained. "Bits and pieces, nothing else. I do however remember everything since I've been me." He smiled. "So not that bad."

He knew he played sitar, but not who taught him. It was mildly frustrating for him. Demyx tried not to think about it.

"Doesn't really bother me that much. Pretty sure my head got screwed with."

At least once, he was confident in thinking so. He was pretty sure Xehanort wanted him to remember nothing.

"I guess people underestimate the power of not bein' bothered when some real shit happens to ya, huh?"

He gets that a lot with his own history. How he's just kind of accepted it. On one hand, it's shit. On the other, it's the only way he's ever known how to deal with. Demyx doin' the same makes sense.

Whatever he's got, it's Demyx's now, right? Not whoever that Somebody was.

"Can't do anything to change it right now." Demyx said as he continued to play. "So I'm not gonna worry about it."

There was a lot under the surface but he didn't want people to look. He also didn't want to deal with it. There was a lot of shit hiding there, but Demyx was who he was and he was going to enjoy it.

"When I get back, I guess I'll see what I can do about finding my heart."
yondu: (1 9 4)

[personal profile] yondu 2021-05-03 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
"How's that work? Findin' your heart?"

He's not gleaned that properly from Vexen's scenarios. But to his credit, their world is real goddamn weird and he tries, he really does.
melodiouspacifist: (Nort Huh??)

[personal profile] melodiouspacifist 2021-05-03 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Don't really know." Demyx answered. "Vexen and Lea think I can just grow it back, but I'm doubtful." He admitted. It was fine, he'd told them that to his face.

"I'd have to figure out where it is. It's that or die and let the magic do its work."

Which would send him back to wherever he came from, presumably, or where his heart was separated from his body, with or without memories. It was a gamble. He couldn't even remember what happened in between the last time he was aware and this time. Had he even returned home?

"I would bet munny it's hidden somewhere, I just have to find it."
yondu: (1 3 7)

[personal profile] yondu 2021-05-03 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Anything you can order from home that might help jumpstart somethin'?"

'Cause that whole dying part seems to be a real issue. Nobody wants that, especially in this place which might end up in some bullshit unwanted cycle.

"Or do they want ya to grow a whole new one outa what you got?"
melodiouspacifist: (So Very Interested)

[personal profile] melodiouspacifist 2021-05-04 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
"The guy who probably took it?" Demyx laughed. "No, definitely not. He'd rather I had his heart so he could control me, y'know?"

That piece was gone, thank you very much. Good riddance.

"I don't know, I don't really remember anything so I can't really say. Vexen thinks I will anyway, and if I don't remember I might not even be the same kind of person I was before."
yondu: (0 4 1)

[personal profile] yondu 2021-05-04 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"I just meant like, somethin' physical ya mighta owned. But yeah, I'd see the big concern with that guy. Vexen's told me quite a bit about what happened."

Yondu doesn't doubt what Vexen says is true. It's just that he feels bad for the kid. Goin' from bein' nobody to somebody isn't an easy thing. At least he's got little stuff like the Sitar to help him out.

"You got any specific songs you like to play on that?" He... doesn't know what those in particular are called.
melodiouspacifist: (Think Think Think)

[personal profile] melodiouspacifist 2021-05-04 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh yeah, I get you but I have no idea what that would be." Demyx admitted with a bit of a sigh. "I'm not sure about any of that."

He chuckled. "Well I can play just about anything I've heard, oh, and I can play the sheet music I got from the store, but mostly I just play whatever's on my mind."

Some people talked to themselves when thinking. Demyx played.

Yondu snorts softly. Right. Yondu had his own habits when he thought.

"I guess I should shut up an' let you think, then. You make a pretty good tune when ya do."

He decides to just settle in then, listen and see what he comes up with.
melodiouspacifist: (Let Me Play You A Song)

[personal profile] melodiouspacifist 2021-05-05 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ha thanks." Demyx grinned. "But if you come up with something let me know. Talking doesn't bother me when I'm playing."

It wasn't like he was thinking about the formation of the universe or something, Demyx was a simple guy.
