A New Platform [Intro Post May]

On the Train

Like clockwork, the Voidtreckers are awoken by a familiar message this morning.

"Good morning Voidtreckers, it is day one of the month of Llama. Points have been updated on the system."

With points updated, everyone can spend the morning shopping. Most people will be expecting the second announcement that comes a few hours later.

"Shortly arriving into a designated void platform. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one." A lurch and a jolt and the windows fill with the fog that means they are at a platform. The air is sticky and warm, the windows almost immediately dewing over with the humidity outside.

As usual the first to leave the train notice nothing, walking silently, rucksacks on their backs, towards the barriers. Azula, Prisoner, Amery Vallet, Dyme Graydon, Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez, Yoite, Piccolo, Bulla Brief, Xie Lian, Kurosaki Ichigo, Hua Cheng, Renee Corbin, and Ran Mouri; all pass through the platform, not looking back before they disappear through the barriers and into the fog beyond.

But on the platform itself there are new faces. Wearing hoodies in all four colours, in various states of confusion.

For New Passengers

At first all they can see is steam billowing around them as they come to their senses. As their eyes adjust, they find themselves on a platform, rich wood and pale stone forming a natural, tree-like structure overhead. Behind them is a set of barriers, and in front of them is a single set of tracks extending both ways into thick fog. The air is rainforest-hot, and the sound of frogsong can be faintly heard over the drip of the artificial canopy.

They are standing, in clothes that are not their own and a style they might not even recognise. They are carrying a rucksack on their back. For a moment it seems to just be them, alone in the white haze; then the fog begins to fade and they realise they aren’t alone.

The platform isn't large, and seems smaller with twenty-eight figures scattered around, all facing the tracks, all dressed in cargo trousers and hoodies. Then there is a roaring sound and out of the fog arrives a train. Jet black with gold writing on the side. The Voidtrecker Express. There is a hiss as the doors slide open and out pours a strange assortment of people, over a hundred at least. Some are human, some are less so. Most are wearing the same hoodie in one of the four colours, red, orange, blue and purple, though some are sporting different clothes in a variety of styles.

Behind them, the doors close, and the train is cloaked in the same fog that hides the world beyond the platform.

The Train

After a short time, the fog clears and the doors hiss open again. Those from the train may encourage those on the platform to board. It’s not like there's anywhere else to go and even if there was, you feel a pull. A need to board, a feeling that staying on the platform would lead to something terrible. If that is not enough, there are plenty of people on the platform now, to encourage them onto the train.

Each ICP shows the same message and next to the screens there are stacks of leaflets written by those on the train, with further information (see
'Publications'). The store rooms have been restocked with fresh ingredients, including several crates of nori, the ingredient of the month of Llama, as well as all sundries.

For passengers that have bought items, these are also scattered around the luggage carriage in various suitcases and bags. For each member of Purple Team, a small silver box with their name on it contains a glittery cupcake.

New passengers will find their ticket allows them into their cabins. They may need to negotiate for beds, but at least they won't be alone in their confusion - since the sleeper carriages are now double-decker, and experience isn't going to avail the passengers in finding their rooms.

Room is tight but there are storage cubbies at the head of each bed, beds fold up and the bottom bunks double as benches for the small table. There is storage under those benches full of spare blankets and pillows.

The new double carriage's transfer ICP is active, allowing people to move to a double room should they meet the requirements with another person, though they'll have to move their belongings themselves.

Departure

A second horn sounds to encourage any stragglers taking advantage of the fresh air, and the doors slide shut. Veteran passengers know what will happen next, but they may wish to brief their new companions.

The train sets off, the fog obscuring the view again as it picks up speed.

"Welcome aboard, passengers of the Voidtrecker Express." A female-coded artificial sounding voice echoes throughout the train. "Please take the time to read the passenger information displayed on the Information and Communication points and familiarise yourself with the layout and emergency exits."

The train begins to tilt, leaving the ground and rising up into the fog-filled sky.

"Entrance into Voidspace imminent. New passengers are advised to remain seated. Entry into Voidspace in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."

A shudder, a jolt, a lurch to the left. A flash of light, colourful and blinding. As quick as it happens it is done. The train seems to steady itself. The fog from the windows is gone now, replaced with a kaleidoscope of ever-changing colours.

Welcome to the Void!

[ Inigo moves up a hand, scratching the back of his head as he's thinking. God, overlord.. Isn't it technically the same thing? Who else would you refer to as an overlord that way? ]

Is your god.. human? Is that why?

[ Not that Inigo knows what it's like to have human gods, but maybe you'd prefer calling those overlords?

Who knows. Other worlds are weird, man. ]

Human is such a limiting term.

[Yes, Sougo is unfortunately human. He will grow old like the rest of them. But he's also been given abilities that make him so much more.]

He's a masked rider with the ability to accumulate the powers of all the riders who came before him. [And some that come after. Time is a funny thing, after all.

Woz spreads his arms out wide to either side of him.]

He is the greatest, most kind overlord there ever will be. He will unite legions under his banner and bring about a golden age of prosperity!

[Just as soon as he remembers what he is, which will inevitably happen.]
flatteries: (a token for the pain)

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-05-20 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ah yes, Woz, thanks.

Because clearly 'human' is such a limiting term, but 'masked rider' is clearly a concept anyone can understand. Especially a medieval guy like Inigo, who totally isn't drawing a blank here, especially when Woz talks about this whole rider thing as if it's some.. title, maybe..?

.. is it a knight? It sounds like he's talking about a knight. And the masked part is the armor then, right. Inigo's brain is practically fizzling as he tries to figure it out. Watch out that those brains don't overheat. ]

So he's instead like.. a king. [ Who else would unite legions under one banner? ] A knight.. king? But a bit more divine than that?

[ HE'S TRYING SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND. Woz, what is your world even? ]
rejoicer: (sure)

[personal profile] rejoicer 2021-05-23 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Close enough.

[Woz gives a dismissive little wave of his hand. It's not as if he actually wants to go into a full explanation that doesn't involve long-winded praise and adoration.

His world is actually remarkably normal outside of the existence of Kamen Riders, especially now that the darker future he originally came from is no longer the timeline he's a part of. But it's far more modern than Inigo's world regardless.]

Where are you from, anyway, that a term like 'overlord' is so baffling to you?
flatteries: (this was gonna be easy)

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-05-23 09:11 am (UTC)(link)
Ylisse.

[ That's an answer he gives easily, at least. If not just because he's 100% sure that Woz will have no idea where or what that is.

No one on this train seems to ever even have heard of it, after all, and if someone is going around talking about some overlord then he doubts he happens to be from the same world. ]

We aren't governed by an overlord, instead we have the Exalt, who rules by the Divine Dragon's decree.
rejoicer: (success)

[personal profile] rejoicer 2021-05-25 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
((ooc: Please forgive my enormously stupid brain fart earlier. I'll fix it somehow but he would refer to Sougo as a king as well as an overlord.))

Nope. Never heard of it.

[Inigo would be 100% right in his assumption. Woz is familiar with various Earths, but not other worlds completely.]

But I have heard of dragons, if that helps.

[Probably not.]
flatteries: (the sun rises slowly as you walk)

haha, it's totally cool, no worries <3 it's noted!

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-05-25 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
[ Inigo's jaw drops.

And he stares.

.. apparently it does help? ]

You have heard of dragons?! [ Oh gosh, he's starting to look not just surprised, but also almost excited. It doesn't matter that Woz acts a little.. well, let's call it weird. Apparently only this thing seems to matter to Inigo right now. ]

Do you have dragons where you come from?! Oh, by Naga, most people treat me like I'm crazy for talking about dragons like this!

[ Please, Inigo, don't get too happy just yet. You're getting ahead of yourself. ]
rejoicer: (haughty)

[personal profile] rejoicer 2021-05-27 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Most from my world know of dragons from fairy tales, but all myths and legends are based on some seed of truth, right?

[Well. That's questionable. But Woz continues all the same.]

Magic doesn't just come out of nowhere.

[Except when it literally does.]
flatteries: (somebody said that life isn't fair)

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-05-27 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Well, hearing that Woz hasn't actually seen one and that they just exist in stories where he comes from is.. let's say mildly disappointing to Inigo.

But that the other isn't dismissing the idea of them as fake based on that - which so many people Inigo has spoken to tend to do - is at least a step up, and the reason the enthusiasm isn't fading entirely, even if it's slightly diminished now. ]

Of course. Maybe they just don't like showing themselves in your world.

[ Because the idea of a world without dragons is weirder to Inigo than the idea of a world with them, especially when they're so fundamental to the very existence on his world. ]

Naga doesn't exactly show herself to just anyone back home either.
rejoicer: (moment)

[personal profile] rejoicer 2021-05-27 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[Woz didn't exactly say he hadn't seen one. He's seen many things that are beyond the limited scope of what most people are exposed to in his world, or worlds given that he crosses between more than one.]

It takes special circumstances.

[This is said with a knowing smile.]

Are you referring to a naga like the snake creature, or...?
flatteries: (go green when you answer)

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-05-27 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
No! I--

[ He almost seems exasperated for a moment - because please, who would compare the actual Divine Dragon to a snake, she's too good for that! - but then realises he's had this exact same misunderstanding before.

Okay, Inigo, calm down. It must just be a term in certain worlds or something. Deep breaths. ]

.. no, there's no such thing where I come from. Naga is just the most powerful dragon the world has ever seen. I suppose she has a human form too, but.. certainly not a snake form, as far as I know.
rejoicer: (sunny)

[personal profile] rejoicer 2021-05-31 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose a comparison to a snake creature isn't too out of the question. In more eastern tales the dragon is far more serpent-like than in western ones.

[Woz holds up a book (one that has possibly been in his hand this whole time? who can say). In its seemingly empty pages appears the moving image of a strangely armored man and dragon.]

In any case, no insult to your dragon friend intended.

[He slams the book shut.]
flatteries: (nobody here is perfectly fine)

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-05-31 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
[ Woah, what's happening here.

It's not the book coming out of nowhere that surprises him. No, it's instead the fact that there's just things appearing inside of the book! That wasn't there a moment ago, right? And why is it moving, like on the cinema screen they have here on the train?

It makes Inigo blink a few times in surprise, trying to process everything he's seeing here. It's wild. ]

Oh, uh.. [ He's slowly regaining his voice, hang on. ] Actually, that's not too different from what Naga looks like.. Though she's a lot bigger.

[ Yes, she's definitely not entirely a western dragon, though Inigo wouldn't know the difference. ]

Is that what dragons look like in stories where you come from?
rejoicer: (sly)

[personal profile] rejoicer 2021-06-03 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Some of them. Stories are only limited by one's imagination, after all.

[As are other worlds, most likely. He can't help but wonder how many are here. That's currently low on his list of priorities, though.

The look on the other man's face gets a smirk out of Woz. He does enjoy causing confusion.]

Our world did once have giant lizards - long before humans existed. Changes in the climate caused their extinction millions of years ago.
flatteries: (i just started to deserve it)

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-06-03 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
...

That's awful.

[ It's now that Inigo's facial expression shifts. It's no longer confused. No, something about this news seems outright devastating to him. A world where dragons died out that long ago.. How would it even still exist? What kind of miserable place would that be? ]

I'm so sorry that you have to live in a world like that.
rejoicer: (sunny)

[personal profile] rejoicer 2021-06-05 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Hah?

[In hindsight, Woz figures he should have expected this sort of response. Dragons are wonderful majestic creatures to this man, after all, and not exactly what's being talked about here. Not that he'd been specific.]

Ah, no. Don't be too sorry. Coexisting with dinosaurs would have ended up with either humans being prey animals that scurried around in the brush or the reptiles being dominated and eventually subjugated by humans. They were just too large for the way our civilizations exist now.

[One day humans would die out too, and something new would become the dominant species in the ashes they left behind.]
