Re: Train with Fëanor
Or at least somewhat ready, he did attack but the stick was more like a staff and he knew how to use one of those, so his attack was very much a polearm attack rather than one you would make with a sword.
It was an attack though, a low sweep towards Fëanor's legs.

"Not bad," he says and gives Romeo an approving nod. "I see that someone has already instructed you in the past but you'll be better off with a lance or a spear."
Fëanor changes the grip on his stick. "Alright, let's try with a spear then."
His own attack is aimed at the boy's throat. Nowhere near even his usual speed, much less force. This is training after all. For now, he's testing how much the boy already knows.

He shifted his grip and pushed the spear upward to block the stick coming towards his neck. Fëanor might not be using his whole force but it was still enough to have Romeo stumble backwards a pace or two. He planted his feet and kept his stick high, watching carefully for what he might do next. He had to be ready!

"Are you alright, child?"
That definitely didn't go as he planned. He really needs to be more careful. It all went too fast and too strong. The humans are so delicate. Especially, the children. He has to remember that they're not half as hardy as elflings.

That's maybe not the right word, but he needed to be more on the floor, harder to move. Rather than light and easy to push back.
"I'm not hurt though sir!"

Children shouldn't need combat skills at all. What kind of world all those kids come from? He can understand Peter, a teenager, under the supervision of his father... mentor, however they wish it to be called.. But Romeo? Or Madoka and Buttercup?
The irony that he's trying to teach at least two of those kids to fight is not completely lost on him.
"Are sure you're alright? Do you wish to continue?"

He doesn't want Fëanor to stop training him just because he stumbled. He needs to prove that he can do better and be stronger!

Fëanor is not happy with children fighting but he can recognize a will to improve oneself. For his age, Romeo is already quite fierce. It would be cruel and unfair to disregard that.
"Let us continue then."
He raises his training weapon.
"Now, why don't you try to go past my guard this time?"
no subject
He's never ever going to get bigger so if he wants to help his friends he has to do it at this size, he can't wait until he's older.
Get past his guard? So he had to try and get through? He looked and then rushed forwards, trying to go to the side that looked less guarded!

Fëanor moves away from the attack with plenty of time to spare. Romeo chose the right side to attack and that's a good sing.
"Not bad." he says "Try again but this time don't look at my weapon. Look at my hands."
no subject
He grinned and reset, to try again!

He raises his training weapon and nods to Romeo.
"Ready whenever you are."
no subject
He moves forward again, this time making sure to watch Fëanor's body and not his weapon as he tried to land a strike.

When they're not being dropped on some accursed world to fulfill some cursed mission. He isn't particularly busy here. There are days when almost any distraction is welcome. Otherwise, he might just sit and stare at the Void lights even if he knows it's a bad idea.
Maybe he should concentrate on what's in front of him instead of getting carried away because this time, to their mutual surprise, Romeo actually manages to land a hit.
"Now, that's better," is the only answer Fëanor gives.

He smiles at the praise and looks for another opening. He couldn't get too proud, he had to keep trying!
no subject
"Continue like this and you will be really good really soon."
Does he sound harsh? He tries not to be. He's just conflicted.
It's one thing to teach children the basics of fighting with a sword or a spear when you know they may need the skill somewhere in the future. It's another thing altogether to teach them knowing they may need it in the span of days. It's like resigning to the fact that they will fight. That thought bothers him.

Fëanor was a good teacher and Romeo was sure with lots of practice he would become as good as him one day!
