Guri's Time Off

Who: Guri and OPEN
Where: Several
When: Course of the Month
What: Various prompts for Guri!
Warnings: None!

Open - Library Car

She found reading passed the time. She had to remember to read at human speeds, though. It was tempting to speed ahead and get to the ending sometimes. Especially with mystery novels.

She'd seated herself in a chair, and was currently working her way through one currently. She had a cup of tea next to her, since that also made the process seem more human. It ensured that she remained unbothered by the perceptive and curious. Occasionally, she sipped at it, leaving it as a background subroutine.

There hadn't been any tea in it for several hours.

She, sighed, closing the book in front of her. She looked a little bit disappointed.

The butler still hadn't done it. Why did people always say that? It hadn't been the butler once yet.

Open - Sparring/Workout?

Another key space for her was any athletic one. She preferred gymnastics, first and foremost. She'd found a good outfit for it on the previous stop. She liked it. And she took on gymnastics equipment with a precision and speed - and grace. It wasn't just doing the maneuvers, no - when performing a vault, she'd land it, but shake her head if it was lacking in grace.

She also did quite a bit of working the old bag. Her speed showed there, too, as she made elaborate series of punches and kicks against the worn material. It wasn't anywhere near as good as a real opponent.

Closed - Dinner for Alice

She had also made a promise before, one she intended to keep. Soldat's training was, bit by bit, paying off. Her earliest examples had been truly...awful. She could follow the instructions, but there were always errors and mistakes. Her timing was simply off. Which was absurd, but there it was. After many, many errors, however - progress had been made.

She'd carefully set aside a space for the moment, too, since it was important to her. Because...well, she'd never made a meal before. And it was Alice, who had proven to be important to her. And who had been granted a rough time on the previous planet - which she hoped to redress, just a little bit.

And so, she got to work. Dinner settings were placed to within a millimeter tolerance - though she allowed for some variance, since she'd noticed that absolute precision tended to make people uncomfortable, sometimes, though they didn't know why.

She'd left a note for Alice to make herself comfortable as she finished with the meals - finally appearing with an old standard - a plate of roast beef, mashed potatoes, and green beans soaked in butter.

Basic, but hopefully serviceable.

Choose Your Own Adventure - OPEN!

The whole idea of this is still so.. so very odd.

Odd in a different way than Wonderland was. Odd was the standard there - things never being quite as they were in the world she left behind for it. People walking on ceilings rather than the floor, creatures that couldn't exist, everything being backwards. It's a kind of odd Alice has come to understand over time.

But there's nothing about this kind of odd she can understand. The oddness of people showing her kindness, for reasons Alice can't quite grasp. Guri wanting to make dinner for her, even though it's not like the other has to. People going out of their way for her.

It might be while Alice looks slightly awkward when Guri appears. She's sitting, apparently having made herself as comfortable as can be, and glancing over at Guri when she shows up with the food.

"Ah, I.." Her voice trails off, as if she isn't sure of what to say, but then she continues. "I see you've made something I know fairly well." Thankfully.

"Hey, Guri!"

Della cheerfully called for her friend, trying to look over her shoulder to see what was being read. "Not a good book? What was it?"

"No, water is fine."

Please, as if Alice is used to anything fancy like wine. Besides-- "I don't drink."

Because even an orphan like her would have been able to get her hands on something stronger than water or tea back home if she really tried, but growing up around various drunken loud people loitering the streets really made her never see any appeal in it.

She casts another gaze down at the plate before she looks over at Guri.

"You didn't put too much effort into learning how to make this, right?" P-Please, Guri, how can she ever accept the idea you struggled to learn how to make this? Putting in that much effort for their promised dinner?

Despite the fact that Alice hasn't had a single bite of the food yet, it seems that she's choking already. Perhaps she's choking on pure air alone at those words.

"N-No, it's nothing of the sort!"

Please. Alice almost looks a bit flustered by the very notion that she gave Guri the wrong idea here. She doesn't want the other to think Alice doesn't trust her, right after Guri did all this effort for her!

"I.. I merely.. don't want you to have overextended yourself for my sake, that is all. You already helped me so much during the mission."

"Oh, that's the oldest trope in the book... literally." A half-shrug. "It's what they all used to do way back when murder mysteries were first a thing at all."

To be honest, Lena wasn't one for reading. She didn't really mind it, but it wasn't a pastime that she really sought out to do. But today, somehow, she found her way to the library, running a finger along the spines of the pretty sparse collection of books on the shelves.

And she couldn't help grinning to herself a bit. Violet would be so disappointed. She'd be done with all these books in a week.

But really, she had no idea what to look for herself. As she came to the end of the row of shelves and was about to start again, she glanced over as Guri finished her own book. "I take it you wouldn't recommend that one?" she asked.

.. well, Alice can't deny that part. Of course she would have tried to save Guri if it had been the other who was stuck in an illusion.

It renders her quiet as she stares down at her meal for a moment. It feels so overwhelming. The feeling of someone caring - and Guri confirming that so very often out loud, even.

It's hard to acknowledge in turn. It feels weird, and new, and Alice is entirely unsure how to navigate it. But in the face of all of this, it would feel entirely wrong not to.

".. Thank you for caring about me. I.. do also care about you." She pricks a fork into one of the potatoes, raising it to put it into her mouth, slowly starting to chew.

"Heyyy, Guri. You're a standout in that outfit!"

Has anyone remarked on that outfit yet? Someone has to remark on that outfit. Tidus is a fan of coming to the gym to practice some acrobatics, stretching his limbs. It was more fun than any of the sword training he had to. So he's come to do his daily workout, in a less fancy gym attire.

Already giving his arms a stretch, one held out while the other supports it.

"You buy that?"

"What a weird thing to be universal." Della can't help but quip. "It's not even that accurate... the only people my family's butler ever hurts is anyone who would try to hurt us first."

Pause. "Then again, he's a ghost, so it's not like he'd really get anything when Scrooge eventually kicks the bucket."

For a moment she's still chewing. Even if Alice may have lost some of her manners that she was taught while being raised, this is definitely one she's keeping. She won't speak until her mouth is empty again, though thankfully it doesn't take too long for her to swallow the bite.

".. It's not bad at all." Especially for a first attempt. In fact, since Alice's standards for food were so low back home, this is outright yummy to her. Yummy enough to immediately put another piece of a potato into her mouth, chewing and swallowing again before speaking.

"If this is your first time trying, you must have worked really hard for it."

Especially since nothing even seems burnt or anything along those lines.

No wonder they're such good friends - they're both pure weirdness.

"Now I kinda wanna ask everyone on the train if they've heard of the trope. That'd be hilarious!"
