Jingyi squints right back at him.

"We have balls," he says, "Usually children's toys. Throwing them at people in large numbers isn't a thing, if we're doing reflex training you're throwing things way less friendly than a bamboo woven or bladder stuffed ball."

Which were two common sorts, but far from the only ones around. Not to mention balls came in various sizes and materials for various purposes, but the ones Tidus references have only a vague sort of sensibility to Jingyi.

"Throwing stones is more likely given rivers have a bunch on the banks, then you can see how far you skip them and stuff like that. Or have a senior taking that as a reason for reflex training, and you learn fast, when pebbles fly at you with qi behind them. Just like you hope the bruises heal fast."

He planted his hand on the panel to open the door out of this carriage into the space between it and the next, one of the more disorienting effects of moving carriage to carriage outside of the transgates.
