"Didn't think you were," he says with some humour in it, a pinch of confusion, but nothing he's going to linger on. The water around him ripples, and Tidus moves his hands inside it, and out from his arms band still around his wrist, a soft protected square comes out: one of the random smacking foams from the training gym, but thankfully covered in a fabric that isn't absorbing the water, making his hands on top of it float with it to the surface.

"How about instead then, I teach you some good ol' fashion swimming?" There's a grin, and he pats his hand on the foam. "I took this out of the training gym! It's good for holding onto, s'long as we don't tear it. But it'll help you get used to paddling with your feet and not worrying about dipping under. Until I can find something better for the newbies."

Like actual proper swimming-helping gear, but maybe the train should give him a pool!!! Until then:
