Catnapping - OTA

Who: Spark and whomever
Where: All around the train
When: After the mission, before the platform
What: Spark being introspective while trying to pretend he's still just... Spark
Warnings: Angst, possible violence mentions.

Spark often claimed that he slept through missions to explain why he was absent from them, so he was free to have Gar or Privateer Pirate show up. But this time he actually had slept. He'd been sleeping a lot since that world with the fake lives, that one that felt so much like a storm from Nautilus.

But he was....

Lonely. That was it. He was lonely.

He was more settled now than he had been after the fish world, but he was still barely eating and avoiding people. Or had been. He just...

He wished Adrien would show up here. Or The Doctor would know who he was. Rose. Nino. Connie. Nita. Kirika. Dominic. Greg. Donovan. Luna. He'd even take Jacob or Gabriel at this point, though each had their issues. Of course if he was bothering with wishing... Quilt.

He shook himself and walked through the train, looking for someone who needed a cat to snuggle with, or tell their problems to. Or a friendly face from Nautilus, since none from his real home or Paris were here...

Now they were getting somewhere. "You had to face fears there that you weren't ready to face," Leia said gently. "That you perhaps didn't even know you had."

"Spark, if you give some a gift, and they break it, that's not your fault. If you trust someone and they betray that trust, it's not your fault. If you share part of yourself with someone and they abuse that privilege, it's not your fault. The actions that others may take that hurt you or your friends are not your fault. You are not responsible for the actions of others. Do you understand?" Her turn was firm, but gentle. This was something Spark needed to learn and understand, as difficult a lesson as it may be.

"Unfortunately, your friends are in a profession where getting hurt is practically an inevitability," Leia said with a sigh. "Which is why they shouldn't have been put in that position in the first place, but it's best not to get me started on that particular line of thinking or we'll be here all day."

"The truth is though, Spark, life is never going to be easy, or safe, for people like us or our friends in Paris. So if you try and wait for it to be so before you let yourself be happy or trust people, you're going to be waiting a very long time. Getting hurt is always going to be a possibility, for you, and for them. But isolating yourself to try and avoid it isn't a solution. And you know it."

"Exactly what I've been recommending since the beginning of this discussion," Leia said. "Use your best judgment. Get to know people. Find ones you deem worthy of your trust, then confide in them as much as you're comfortable with. And continue from there."

"If you need advice or support, I'll be here. But the first steps are ones you have to take yourself."

"No, I think the direction you've been focusing that judgment in is wrong," Leia said. "There's a distinct difference. Change your focus, and your entire perception of things can change with it."

"And yes, things were certainly easier for a great many of us before Nautilus got involved. But tell me, Spark, do you regret having grown? And do you think you could truly go back to being that simpler version of yourself now that you have?"

Leia sighed. "Spark, in order to keep them safe you would have to take away their Miraculous," she said. "Because as long as they even have them, they're going to be in danger and are going to keep throwing themselves into more of it. So long as Adrien's Chat Noir, he'll never be safe, no matter what you or anyone else does. You can't protect him from the life he leads, Spark."

"And yes we were. But not all of us had a choice about leaving, and for those that did, it was their decision to move on. Whether or not it was the right one depends on the individual, but sometimes people need to do that. Sometimes people's lives simply go in different directions."

"And can you guarantee than an equal or more dangerous threat won't rise to fill Papillion's place?", Leia asked. "That no one else will ever abuse the power of a Miraculous? Or that some sort of unrelated disaster might not occur? I'm not going to deny that removing Papillion from the picture would help, but it wouldn't be the be all and end all that fixes the situation. As long as they have the means, they're going to keep throwing themselves into harm's way. Because that's the sort of people they are, and because they're all to one degree or another overconfident teenagers who don't know their limits yet."

"And sometimes, that happens too. Life takes unexpected turns, and the multiverse is notably unfair. That doesn't make behaving recklessly to get what you want out of it any better of an idea."
