A NEW PLATFORM [INTRO POST JANUARY]
On the Train
Despite whatever Voidtreckers may have learned or how they feel about those revelations - or reminders - of the precariousness of their situation, the train flies ever onward.
"Good morning Voidtreckers, it is day one of the month of Poi. Points have been updated on the system."
With points updated, everyone can spend the morning shopping. Most people will be expecting the second announcement that comes a few hours later.
"Shortly arriving into a designated void platform. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one. The weather is dry but there is a chill to the air and a strong breeze." A lurch and a jolt, and the windows fill with the fog that means they are at a platform.
The doors open. As usual, those who leave first notice nothing, walking silently, rucksacks on their backs, towards the barriers. Dairine, Okada Izō, Rapunzel, Satoru and Siebren; all pass across the platform, not looking back. And then they're gone, disappeared through the barriers and into the fog beyond.
But on the platform itself there are thirteen new faces. Wearing hoodies in all four colours and in various states of confusion.
For New Passengers
At first all they can see is steam billowing around them as they come to their senses. As their eyes adjust, they find themselves on a platform. The platform is long with a grassy mound behind them. It is blustery and the air is cold, they will be glad of those hoodies.
They are standing, in clothes that are not their own and a style they might not even recognise. They are carrying a rucksack on their back. For a moment it seems to just be them, alone on the foggy, windy platform; then the fog begins to fade and they realise they aren’t alone.
Thirteen figures, all facing the tracks, all dressed in cargo trousers and hoodies. Then there is a roaring sound and out of the fog arrives a train. Jet black with gold writing on the side. The Voidtrecker Express. There is a hiss as the doors slide open and out pours a strange assortment of people, over a hundred at least. Some are human, some are less so. Most are wearing the same hoodie in one of the four colours, red, orange, blue and purple, though some are sporting different clothes in a variety of styles.
Behind them, the doors close, and the train is cloaked in the same fog that hides the world beyond the platform.
The Train
After a short time, perhaps ten minutes or so, the fog clears and the doors hiss open again. Those from the train may encourage those on the platform to board. It’s not like there's anywhere else to go and even if there was, you feel a pull. A need to board, a feeling that staying on the platform would lead to something terrible. If that is not enough, there are plenty of people on the platform now, to encourage them onto the train.
Each ICP shows the same message and next to the screens there are stacks of leaflets written by those on the train, with further information (see
'Publications'). The store rooms have been restocked with fresh ingredients, with cans of corned beef lining the shelves.
For passengers that have bought items, these are also scattered around the luggage carriage in various suitcases and bags. Those from purple who go to find their prize will find a large box containing a gingerbread train for them to share. Plenty enough to go around, even for the largest team.
New passengers will find their ticket allows them into their cabins. In most rooms, the occupied beds are obvious, leaving the spotless, empty spaces for the newcomers. Room is tight but there are storage cubbies at the head of each bed, beds fold up and the bottom bunks double as benches for the small table. There is storage under those benches full of spare blankets and pillows.
Snow Time: Rock Garden
Winter seems to have followed from Osiga and nested in the rock garden. There's a chill that nips in the air and a light snow (real snow) fills the air. A thin cloudy haze at the top of the carriage seems the source. Yet the kaleidoscope of the void will assure that this is no timely world stop.
People might have seen it occurring the night before. Snow falling heavy before tapering off with an odd precision, leaving a heavy blanket over the carriage 'ground'. By morning of Platform Day, a miniature winter has descended, ripe for snowforts, snowballs, angels and snowmen.
It's not just the climate that's changed. Many statues and rock features are missing or moved. Digging below the snow reveals soil now frozen but providing a barrier between the bare floor of the carriage. Keen eyes will see changes are made with safety and available space in mind. The fountain has been emptied but the pond and streams are frozen solid, allowing intrepid spirits to try slide-skating over the surfaces without the risk of breaking through. The mosaics are still around, and enchantments are in place to protect paintings and paper decorations from damp. Any plants have been sent to sleep or taken to safety.
The benches are still around. Paths and bridges are covered with fresh snow, but, as the day goes on, it's trampled down and or scattered. Najaran's woodfolk may be glimpsed near Jingyi's shrine or hiding in the shadows of rocks and statues still present, perhaps even buried in the snow and peeking out. Shy around humans, though those with pointed ears or Hylian lineage may find an easier time interacting.
There are signs on both doors of the carriage warning of the change and mentioning the dressing carriage will have winter gear, and it does: with hats, scarves, gloves and ice skates in a variety of sizes. Dispensers with warm drinks such as coffee, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are available in the Games Carriage.
Early the next day, the snow will be gone and the gardens returned to how they once were.
Departure
A second horn sounds to encourage any stragglers taking advantage of the fresh air, and the doors slide shut. Veteran passengers know what will happen next, but they may wish to brief their new companions.
The train sets off, the fog obscuring the view again as it picks up speed.
"Welcome aboard, passengers of the Voidtrecker Express." A female-coded artificial sounding voice echoes throughout the train. "Please take the time to read the passenger information displayed on the Information and Communication points and familiarise yourself with the layout and emergency exits."
The train begins to tilt, leaving the ground and rising up into the fog-filled sky.
"Entrance into Voidspace imminent. New passengers are advised to remain seated. Entry into Voidspace in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."
A shudder, a jolt, a lurch to the left. A flash of light, colourful and blinding. As quick as it happens it is done. The train seems to steady itself. The fog from the windows is gone now, replaced with a kaleidoscope of ever-changing colours.

Welcome to the Void!

And if he can get away with it now, why not?
"You don't hear about people living that long - not where I'm from! He's not the oldest on there either. There's one guy, Curufin...? He's an elf. His age is in the thousands!"
no subject
That's it, Tidus was now squarely in the family category, permanently off-limits as a target for any of Yota's schemes... should he even have the heart to target anyone on this train!
"Th-thousands...!" Yota's eyes widened in shock as he accidentally snapped his cookie in half! He still gathered it up and the crumbs to eat, licking his paws appreciatively afterwards—hey, even if he was stunned, food was food! "... imagine—God, this place really brings all sorts, huh? Never even knew elves existed... I guess there has to be some world where they do, huh?"
no subject
W-well, whatever! You know what, Tidus isn't going to sweat it, scoffing an amused, "Sure, alright - if everyone who calls you uncle's automatic family!"
He walked himself right into that, didn't he... oh well. At least Yota isn't fainting or anything. And he's actually believing Tidus about the ages, which is surprising.
"You actually know what elves are? We don't have them where I'm from." He shakes his head, lifting a hand. "--But if you believe we're from different worlds, that makes explaining some of the weird stuff easier... I've been here for a while, and you just get used to everything being strange, and different. You know? Some people won't even know what a phone is here. They don't have anything like that where they're from."
[that... was a very weird episode]
Tidus was, in fact, extra special! Or Yota simply wasn't used to recieving this much kindness without having to lie or trick his way to it, so he got attached.
"Never saw one in the flesh, but there're stories... if you'll believe I nearly sto— uh, acquired a magic lamp that supposedly contained a wish-granting genie..."
Shoot, he nearly gave himself away!
who doesn't nearly acquire a magic lamp
"A wish-granting genie? What's that?" If it's in a lamp...? "Like a...candle?"
no subject
He took a sip from his coffee, but winced. Still too hot, but he could enjoy the warmth in his paws some more.
no subject
Something called a genie, even?

"So was there one in there in the end? Sounds like a story kids would swear is true."
[complicated pregnancy mention--but it ended well! ^^;;;]
An innocent wish for a baby to be born soon lead to complications almost ending in a baby being born too early to survive, so, uh, it wasn't all nice, but Yota didn't see that.poor baby
"Geez... well now I wanna meet a genie!" A genie that gives him things! "But if you know something that can do that, then all the magic that people can do here won't be so weird! Not that everyone can do it, but it's a thing."
A thing to be readied for, along with "a train that abducts people".
she's born healthy at a later date, it's okay!! :D;;
This place was weird enough, sure, why not?
"... so, some of the people here do magic? Humen sure are interesting..."
That was the word, right? He only half-understood it.
((... she even gets (accidentally) abducted by the cat brothers (... who mistook her basket for one with sandwiches in it, that's what Yota is holding at arm's length in this icon, PFFT), so baby Lilia's 100% offically a cast member!))
no subject
Congrats baby Lilia.Humen, humoon, human; Tidus wasn't going to (directly) correct it when-
"Well, there's all kinds around here! Not everyone's human-" he gestures to himself, "-that look like me. ...The same shape? Like, that Spark guy I talked about earlier. He's more...cat than you? Moves around on all fours, smaller?"
More cat-like to Tidus, anyway.
"Thing is, everyone's different. But, I guess I should tell you what the deal is around here, right? What's going on- it's gonna sound crazy, but you up for it?"
no subject
More cat than him? He's plenty cat! Wait, so there isn't more of him, there's... less? He's small? Yota tilted his head while imagining. He wondered if he had particularly weak legs to go around on all fours, but Tidus' offer got a nod from him.
"... might be! I mean, I'm already here, so might as well hear it."
no subject
"Alright. So this train-" he swirls a forefinger upwards. "--moves outside of planets. It can go anywhere in any reality - it can even go to another reality where you are your brother exist, except something's different." He nods. "You're gonna see a few people who look the same, and that's why. Everyone here - no one's from the same world. Even if they know a version of them."
Which is saying something about Yota's brother, if he had been here, but Tidus only takes a tiny pause before he goes on.
"The train was some kinda transport for people who'd go out and do missions - help places, worlds, people. But then this thing happened to its last crew; the world they all came from got wiped out by something you'll hear about sometimes, these shapes, and the crew did something or other that made them disappear. Vanish."
Hands come out in a very 'poof, gone' gesture.
"The same time, everyone forgot those places existed. Enrara - that's one of the planets. No one knew about the Voidtrecker Express and there's no records about them. But, it still exists." Again he gestures to the train, this time out to the aisle. "It's getting recruits still, 'cept, they all come from people who don't know anything about the void, or none of it. Us - and we can't leave unless we find a way to safely break the thing that's connecting us to the train."
He stops here, hands coming back onto the table. A sympathetic expression drawing across his brow, the thin smile.
"Make sense?"
As much sense as it's going to make?
no subject
"... so, bunch of... space heroes... messed up somehow and then, they or, hold on, they disappeared? Or the shapes? Or both?"
The end got a strange glint in his widening eyes and he looked as though he resolved to do something.
"... so, if we derail the train, we'll get back home?! Or just wreck everything until we see what works?! Wait, what if we get stranded on a weird station again..."
Please stop Yota's spectacularly ill-conceived plan.
no subject
But as Yota comes up with his idea, Tidus...can't blame the guy. Not the best of ideas, but you know, if it could be done? Tidus wouldn't mind.
"Yeeeah, big problem there." Unfortunately. "This train? Has no tracks. And busting it up? Not a good idea for a few reasons," like them being connected to it, but let's hold that news for later, "but also...you can't destroy the train. Doesn't work! I can even show you what happens if you try."
no subject
Yota looked increasingly worried about the shapes.
"... sure, I guess. It won't let the shapes get in, will it?" he asked, now feeling more concerned about them.
no subject
"We don't know anything about them though. Where they came from, why they go after planets. It doesn't sound like they've always been around - the people keeping an eye on the void didn't have a clue about them either."
no subject
He wondered if he should try talking to it when no one was looking. He didn't want to embarrass himself!
"Who's keeping an eye on this... void?" Yota asked, an ear swivelling, as if trying to listen to a possible third voice here.
no subject
For a few reasons, which Tidus can get into, if Yota's interested.
no subject
This really was too much for one day, Yota looked exhausted. He grabbed his coffee and started taking a sip. he made a face, previously doleful eyes snapping wide open.
"..."
It was way too bitter! He dunked his remaining treat in it to sweeten it, drinking in sips appreciatively, even if it was bitter.
"... gonna be honest with you, I think that's..." —as far as Yota's poor mind can follow!
"Look, you've done a lot for me, there's gotta be other stuff you gotta get to right now, right? Don't let me hold you up, okay? It's been a long day..."
no subject
"Don't worry about it too much for now, okay? If you wanna talk about it, or anything - I'll be around. Check out the carriages; we've got a bunch of different ones. Greenhouses, game rooms; and there's more cookies that way," he says with a jerk of his head back, "--if you wanna grab some more for the day."
You can never go wrong with more cookies, right.
no subject
He definitely will make sure to learn what he can so he can contact him and keep in touch!
