Who: Sonya Blade and Various closed prompts (plus open prompts)
Where: Carriages listed under cut
When: Days 18-22 of Poi
What: catch all for February
Warnings: TBD, but mentions of past trauma relating to war experiences
Gym Carriage: Closed to Cassie Cage
All soldiers had their little 'post mission' traditions. Some had poker nights, others had bar nights, but for Sonya, it was bad movies, and food that was in no way considered 'nutritionally beneficial'.
Of course, she had to make concessions when she married Cassie's father, who seemed to have a reaction to anything that had artificial anything, and then when she got into her forties and understood she couldn't just 'burn off whatever she ate'.
One such findings, she came to with Cassie when she knew she'd be done with her morning workout, meeting her in the lockers. "Cass...you cleaned up yet?"
She had only an hour before it was due to clean the kitchen carriage before the lunch crew.
Garden Carriage: closed to Trunks
Over a year into her being on the Void Trekker, Sonya was well aware of Cassie's growing chi abilities. She'd chalked most of this to not really understanding the Cage powers in the first place; hell, even Raiden barely seemed to understand them, given how little record the cult kept in the first place.
But at the last mission, the idea that she herself could eventually master the same techniques; perhaps not the same of course, but near to it. Sonya wasn't entirely sure how she felt about it. She always took pride on NOT having supernatural abilities, that she won her fights by skill and resourcefulness.
On the other hand, what else was there to do on this Train.
The Garden Carriage was as good a place as any to meet. Especially if meditation was the first step.
Gym carriage: Open
Mornings were for yoga and gymnastics, keeping her body agile, flexible, and working out any residual stiffness in her joints. Decades of combat meant she was fully aware of what she was capable, and how not to take her body for granted.
Afternoon and evenings, that was for sparing, for weights, for anything that might require more rest then simple stretches. One day might be weights, another might be for sparing; she couldn't train as hard as she once did, but like hell did that mean she'd ever slow down.
Or now, she had a pair of training knives with her, going at a target like their were extensions of her arms, instead of separate weapons.
Sometimes it felt good to go back to basics.

Garden Carriage
Not quite meditating, although he smiled to himself when Blade got closer. He was studying her ki signature. Trunks was going to make it a point to memorize it, just like he'd memorized his mother's. Or Devero, or Cassie, or his father--or any of the people he trained. Making it a point to know how they 'felt' so he could find them always.
Re: Garden Carriage
Sonya didn't so much pick a seat, but found a large standing rock and leaned against it. "How do we begin this anyway?"
They knew eachother from Cassie, so Sonya saw no reason not to immediately get to the point. "I'm also going to make a point that, as far as I know, no one in my immediate family was ever 'gifted' when it comes to these abilities, they were either straight up military or lead ordinary lives."
Re: Garden Carriage
"So, where I'm from? ANYONE can use ki if they've got the proper training. Some people are better at it--I'm a half-saiyan, which means my ability to manipulate and use it is easier than for a pure-human, but there are a few pure humans who can do most of the same things I do. It's just harder for them." Because he believed she was capable, even if he knew she was likely just making sure not to get hopes up. "That said, what do you know about ki? This is all the talky parts, we'll get to action soon."
Re: Garden Carriage
She sat down with him, thinking back to what she knew. "A lot of breath control for the most part, focus and meditation. In theory, I could've learned some of it back home from..." She thought back to the Liu Kang she saw in the Nether realm. "from a former ally of mine, but there was never time to put in the actual lessons and dedication."
"This friend, he was capable of channeling his energy into creating fire, either in the form of projectiles or, if he really focused he could form himself into a dragon. However he said that required more energy to hold, and in that form he was unstable as himself, so it was only a last resort."
She'd only seen him do it once, and she couldn't say he was exaggerating; he looked like death warmed over when he reverted back. "But this was all after a decade or so of training."
no subject
"So it definitely starts with focus and meditation, but a lot of that is because you're getting in tune with yourself. Learning how your own energy feels, and works, so you can manipulate it." Trunks closed his eyes, reaching out to read her ki. "I'm pretty sure you have enough to work with--you come across with a higher level than most humans, even those who've trained."
Opening his eyes again, still with that smile. "If it helps, I'm also trying to train my mother to use and sense Ki. She's not a fighter at all, but I've been told she's capable of it. I think she's capable of it too, from what I can sense."
no subject
"In either case, I'll have to take your word for it." She wasn't entirely sure if she'd met his mother-or perhaps she had and didn't realize.
"I'm familiar enough with meditation. Still do it sometimes to help with insomnia, and it can be a part of yoga."
no subject
Speaking of his mother. "Mom also gave me a device called a Scouter, apparently it's Father's old one. But they're designed to sense energy and power levels, as well as act as communicators and scan for weapons. Two different ways to 'see' what I'm talking about, and getting you to try and sense."
no subject
She took hold of the device, handling it carefully. The idea that this was possible sent her mind into overdrive; her time on Earthrealm might be over, but Cassie could (she hoped) go back. If they could bring such a device over to their world, measure the chance of other troops having such potential.
"So how does it work?"
no subject
When Sonya was ready, he let her take the device. "Now, go ahead and scan me. I'm currently hiding my ki so I shouldn't register any stronger than a normal human."
no subject
She turned the device on, glad that it resembled a scanner similar to what she might've seen (if not used) back home. The readings themselves didn't really strike her as anything of note, but she could only guess that the higher the reading, the higher the chi.
"I'm also curious as to what ground level would be-are we talking ill, dead, or someone messing with the scanner and attempting to read a large rock."
Because frankly she could see some less rankning NCOs or even junior officers pull that sort of stunt.

"Now what about full power?" She had a good idea what it would look like, given he was now in 'civilian mode', but call her curious.

It should definitely be in the red now.
Gym Carriage
Re: Gym Carriage
Because bringing a box of cereal to the training carriage just seemed both redundant and disgusting. There was also the slight (and rather foolish) worry that if she kept it in the pantry someone might see it as free rain to take it for themselves.
Re: Gym Carriage
She raises an eyebrow and smirks.
"See you in a few."
Re: Gym Carriage
For all Johnny griped about 'gmos' and 'added sugar', he made a point of sending a few of her favorites in care packages-modified of course. Along with them being several notes to make sure she took care of herself, got plenty of sleep-and for gods sake make sure to drink water.
It would've almost been flattering if it wasn't irritating.
She made sure her bunk was empty before pulling the two boxes from her locker; one was of fruity-Os, while the other an alternative to 'honey-Os'.
no subject
"...You know, I can't say I'd have guessed that was what you had in mind, but I probably should've."
no subject
This time was different, and she could only smirk at seeing her fully ready; smirk, and pull out the two boxes of cereal.
"Admittedly, it's been awhile, but after the last mission I thought we both deserved something."

The smile faltered a little when she made the reference, but it would probably just have been that long.
"All the more reason why we need to bring it back. We need to get some dishes from the kitchen cart, but afterwards we can decide on a movie."
no subject
"Should we head out together?"
