Crashing Down: Preparation

Voidtreckers. I have picked up a catastrophe mission coming from system #78961112094711. Voidtreckers have urged me to be open with you all these last months and so I shall be transparent. The readings coming from this catastrophe are very unusual and I cannot determine the threats. Indeed there do not seem to be any threats in the system that would result in a catastrophe level mission.

This has been encountered before, in the Month of Egret on system #27462947582. This voidcraft was unable to ascertain the threats that could lead to a catastrophe. Known risks were calculated and mission goals created, but the Voidtreckers were put in unnecessary danger from the world destroyers.

From the data available it is not unreasonable to believe that the catastrophe facing #78961112094711 comes from the world destroyers. We still have little information. We do not have any way to stop the destroyers. However we have advantages that Voidtreckers did not have in the month of Egret.

We know what is coming. System #78961112094711 is Void Active. Voidtreckers have allies there. Saving the system is not possible but with five hours it is possible that many many lives could be saved by evacuating them to the void.

This voidcraft is sending a forward message to the ministry stationed on System #78961112094711. Due to the nature of arriving at catastrophe missions they will receive it not long before we arrive. But it should mean they are ready for us. This voidcraft has calculated mission goals to help voidtreckers organise but it should be noted that the most important goal is to save as many lives as possible.

The announcement comes out of the blue on day twenty four of the month of Quicksand. Not too long after breakfast when people are getting on with chores or other morning activities.

It is followed quickly by a holographic message setting out their team goals. They do not have all that much time before arrival, an hour or so to be prepared for the huge task ahead of them. The dressing carriage is open with warm coats, hats and other team-coordinated winter accessories.

How to prepare for such a challenge? It's going to be a very difficult day.

[OOC: This is a bonus extra for those who want to play out the preparation and reaction to the forthcoming event. It is forward dated until day 24. The actual event will go up on the 16th April and a conclusion on the 23rd. Though IC the event will only last one day.]

Getting the News

"World destroyers? What the heck are those? What's going on here?!" Usagi said, completely confused. She had been here for quite awhile and this was something she was not exactly told of. What did she miss here?

So, apparently the world they're heading to is Osiga. That peaceful ice world. But, why? That didn't make sense at all. Do they just attack randomly?

Either way, Usagi was going to make her way to the dressing carriage. She's going to need warm clothing, especially since she's gonna need to go full Sailor Moon and that costume does not work in cold weather.

"There has to be a way to stop them, though."

Inigo easily finds his way to the dressing carriage as well. After all, he does have some warm clothes of his own, but he remembers what the weather there was like the last time they visited. And back then they were mostly staying inside of the city and taking it easy, rather than having to move around all over the place..

So while he's there to make sure to grab some warm layers as well, he overhears the girl's question, turning his head to look in her direction.

".. What?" He blinks, trying to think for a moment about what she could mean.. "You mean those things the train calls the world destroyers?"

“Yeah.” Usagi said. “I’ve faced off against some terrible creatures outside of what we dealt with and won. Maybe I can do something about it.”

For a moment he's quiet.

After all, Inigo knows that the impossible can sometimes be possible. He didn't think they would be able to do anything about Grima in his world, since it seemed like such an overwhelming force - yet in the end, they did.

On the other hand.. if something could be done about these things, wouldn't the Ministry have figured that out by now? They seem like people who are relatively on top of things. But he doesn't want to invalidate Usagi's feelings either..

It's a tough balance, and he frowns as he thinks before he finally speaks up.

"I don't know, but.. you won't do anything reckless, will you?" That's his main concern here. They're mostly going to be there to save the people from that world, after all. Sure, it'd be nice if they could do something about those things too, but he'd rather not lose anyone to an attempt like that.

Usagi let out a sigh. “Reckless” here meant “Full power Silver Crystal”. And that usually meant dying, from what she understood.

“I’ll try not to be too reckless.” She said, sheepishly smiling.

"Hmm.. that's a suspicious answer."

It's clear that Inigo is teasing. It's a faint tease, but a tease all the same - like the guy is doing his best here to try and keep the mood light. He's seen these world destroyers before, after all. With his own eyes. He knows exactly what it feels like when you see them, and he knows what they're capable of.

He hopes that with a bit of luck, no one on the train or in that world will have to see them. As long as they stay positive, and work hard.

"Just remember that we're just there to save the people, okay? That's the most important part. We wouldn't be sent there if something out there didn't believe we could do that, at least."

“I know. Them first, then those monsters.”

Usagi wasn’t sure she was going to be able to handle this, but she had to try, right?

Monsters, huh. For some reason Inigo gets stuck on that word, and he raises a hand up to the back of his head, ruffling the hair back there as he seems to think for a moment.

"I don't know if I'd call them monsters.."

Don't get him wrong. This is definitely not Inigo getting all sympathetic towards those things - it's not that kind of direction that his speech is taking here.

"I mean, I saw them. They didn't look like monsters." Granted, Inigo might be thinking of a very specific kind of monsters here.. "They felt more like.. nothingness, almost."

He knows it's a vague description, but it's the best way to put the sensation he felt and what he witnessed into words.

“…nothingness?” Usagi said, confused. That… that didn’t seem right at all.

“What are they, then?”

"They are like.. shadows."

Like spots of nothingness in the world, maybe he meant it more like that. Inigo frowns as he's saying it, like he's truly having trouble putting it into words here.

"We didn't fully see what they can do, since the train pulled us back before the worst of it happened, but.. it's like darkness is slowly approaching you when you see them coming. It's such an odd and dreadful thing to see."

"Shadows..."

Usagi didn't like that at all. Maybe she was getting in over her head, but she had to try, right?

"I wish we knew more..."

Isn't that the story of their life on the train? Things would be so much easier if they had more information, and yet every time they're told something new, it just gives them twenty more questions.

Inigo slowly shakes his head. "Let's just be careful."

Because if they're something that can make a world just straight up vanish that quickly.. They can't be something good.

"If it's anything like the last time I saw them, you should be able to see them approach from a distance." Granted, they can't even be sure of that. For all they know, those things could appear out of nowhere this time around. It's the downside of having so little information. "So just be prepared to react, the moment you see that. Don't let fear freeze you."

After all, Usagi had seemed nice enough before. Inigo wouldn't want something bad to happen to her, especially when it involves those world destroying things.

“I’ll be fine.” Usagi said. “I’ll try not to freeze up if it shows up. If I do, I trust people like you to get me out, though.”

"Huh?"

For a moment Inigo looks kind of surprised as he stares over at her. His eyes are kind of wide, like he didn't quite expect to hear that of all things..

But even though it makes him faintly - very faintly! - blush, he shakes his head.

"Of course!" After all, he would have had her back anyway. That's not what he's so surprised about here.

It's just.. "I didn't quite realise you were relying on me."

Usagi smiled at that. “I rely on all of my friends. I trust on everyone I can to make sure I don’t make the wrong choices. I can’t just rely on one person.”

"I would imagine the clue is in the name," Rezo says, frowning over his SCA. "But I would also like to know more details."

He has... a certain idea, but he doesn't know enough yet to be sure if these are the same as the beings described, however vaguely, in Missing Worlds, a book itself that had seemed very questionable when he'd read it.

"True, the name is all we need, but I feel like we're missing something." Usagi said.

"It's like... I dunno... there's puzzle pieces missing."

Rezo sighs. "There are indeed," he agrees. "...Coincidentally, I read a bit recently about a rumored world destroyer. But I had not realized there was a similar force known to the crew."

Expecting the obvious question, Rezo says, "It was a book about worlds that have vanished. There was little detail on the so-called world destroyers themselves."

"We're not gonna find the answer in five hours."

Five hours. Tidus was headed to the dressing carriage too to grab a better coat, but there's also people he wants to look out for, hoping they'll end up this way. But, for the time being-

"Those things destroy the entire system! There's nothing left after they've been through."

"Nothing left? That's... that's impossible! Is it?"

It certainly seems like it is.

Unfortunately, he shakes his head. "We know about three places it's happened - it's what took out the system the train's from. Diagad, a mission world... they're all gone. And nobody knows anything about them."

“Nobody… you’re saying that not only they destroy worlds, it wipes them from existence?” Usagi asked.

“If that’s true, that’s…!”

"We'll save people!" Reassuring - it's all he knows how to answer than to confirm what's already obvious. That's all they can really think about now.

"If we get them on the voidcrafts, they won't totally die. They'll have a chance to live! We've just gotta prepare - find out the best way to get everyone to the stations. That's what the objectives said."

He brings them up on his SCA. It was all they had to possibly make any plans. But, even so...

"What do you think you'll do?"

“I’ll have to hunt down as many as possible. I can’t let them suffer.” Usagi said. “I’ll figure out a way…”

"Osiga can't be that big of a planet," Tidus reasons. "It's all covered in that weird ice. Were you around when we went there? It was freezing."

That had to mean something for its population, especially if they were sticking with Osiga than another planet or place.
