Chores with the Ans! - OTA
Who: Najaran, Esteban, and whoever wants to come chat with them
Where: Mostly Garden Car, but potentially anywhere if they are carrying stuff.
When: From platform to event
What: Esteban and Najaran are doing chores the Najaran way! Come bother them!
Warnings: Possible death/violence mentions with Najaran.
As usual, Najaran was doing most of her chores in the Garden Car. She was avoiding mushrooms, but there were other ingredients she could cook with. And this time she had help! More than just her cards. Esteban also liked cooking over an open fire. And was willing to do laundry that way too. so you might find Najaran or Esteban or Eidolon or Gremlin carrying dirty laundry through the halls to the Garden Car. Or clean washing back to where it belongs. Or stuff to and from Kitchen and Stores. And she'll be doing this pretty much every day once she's done scrubbing and cleaning whatever random areas she found on any given day.
In the Garden Car itself, as usual there is a carefully tended fire pit with a makeshift set up for a cook pot to be suspended or held over it. A suit of armor was seated against one wall, a clothesline attached between his pauldron and the far wall for clothes drying. All the while he was peeling vegetables for the cook pot. Adult Woodfolkwere tending their small patch of dirt while watching the baby woodfolk and keeping a half eye on the fire, as was Cait Sith. Over all, the method worked well for Najaran, and having Esteban there was only making things all the more fun!

Top level for just Najaran
Top level for just Esteban
Top level for either/both
Garden carriage
There was nothing she'd seen that the train was 'non-smoking', but she'd rather ere on the side of caution.
But any thoughts of possibly indulging were set aside when she smelled something like smoke coming through the door. A lack of any intense heat showed there was nothing to worry about, but it was still strange. As far as she knew, the garden carriage didn't exactly have a fire pit or anything of that nature.
A careful look inside showed that that detail was suddenly not so strange. "Uh...I understand the sleeping arrangements are cramped, but..the oven and stoves in the kitchen are perfectly fine for cooking."
Re: Garden carriage
Re: Garden carriage
"Or has no one taught you how to use the washing machines?" She recalled the one passenger, Jon Snow, who wasn't familiar with various machines from 'Modern Earth'.

"B'sides. With the weather here, we can set a nice warm wind that'll get these dry in no time!" It was a nice bonus to the weather panel that hadn't been foreseen, but Esteban liked it. And teamwork made it quick work, too, another advantage of their little arrangement.
"Y'should join! It's nice to chat while we work!" he obviously invited, reaching down to snatch another cloth to repeat the process.

"Besides, this way no one can complain that they get a share of the food if they're helping!" She gave the woman a bright smile. Then she glanced at Esteban. "We... can change the weather? Isn't that... um.... a lot of power for us to have?"
"Unlike you, Najaran," Goligan said dryly, "some people can be trusted not to accidentally make a blizzard."

"The clothes are likely to get dirty again like this," Her grandmother sometimes hung clothes out to dry, but in the crazy Texas winters, even she could appreciate a clothes dryer, and she still used a washer. "And washing machines are more efficient."
So whatever romanticized ideas they had about laundry, she wasn't entirely for. "To say nothing of getting fabrics accidently caught on fire or food stains on them, thus having to repeat the process."

"I think it's mostly wool; maybe with a bit of linen t' make it softer." Well, that always depended on what clothes they were talking about though. He'd bet Najaran's chiton dress was made either of linen or cotton over wool. Speaking of--
"Oh, I don't make the weather," he indicated, nodding towards the door and the panel next to it. "Y' can just change the weather in here through that panel over there!" A grin stretches across his lips as he considers his request. "You want me to show you how to use it?" Or Gremlin. Gremlin might be more curious than Najaran is on that particular matter.

She shook her head, trying to break herself out of defensive mode before she got angry. She didn't have a right to get angry at anyone. Not when she was still so bad at everything...
So she tried to focus on Esteban's offer. But feeling particularly low at the moment... "Maybe Goligan's right and you should show Gremlin instead so I don't mess everything up," she said, shoulders slumping.

"But we have a saying back home, work smarter, not harder. I can teach you how to use the laundry machines, they're more efficient and result in less work. As for cooking, I appreciate a camp stove as much as the next person, but cooking for the train also means having to serve the food in a way that the other passengers are able to sit down and eat-there's no such place for them all in the garden carriage."
Certainly not enough room for them all to be comfortable with. But Sonya couldn't fault them for sticking with what they knew, it was simply that in regards to duties, there were more efficient ways of doing them.
Going on Hiatus for a bit, so I'll move Esteban off-screen
Still, he turns to the soldier addressing them, smiling still even though she's prodding at them.
"It's not 'bout the work," he mentions, shrugging easily enough. "It's 'bout the company. Doin' somethin' with your hands an' feelin' accomplished, and we get to chat an' have fun together." That's all there is to it. "Y'should try it 'f you have the time!"
Sure, they could be efficient, they could be productive; but that's not the point in his books. It's especially to take it slow; to do things in their own way, find a bit of solace from this piece of home they've carried on, and to simply spend it in good company while they do.
"Alright, Gremlin! Mind comin' with me? I'll show you how to use the weather controls, an' we'll go fetch the ingredients for the soup next, okay?" he indicates, glancing at Najaran to get her permission as well before guiding the small imp off and closer to the door.
Re: Going on Hiatus for a bit, so I'll move Esteban off-screen
"Knight can't fit in the Laundry room or kitchen, and if other people are trying to cook, I'd just be in the way. But if I cook it here, then everyone can help. And no one says anyone has to eat it here!" she said, still defensive. "I always pack it up into bowls in the fridge so anyone can eat whenever they want!"
Her lip quavered slightly, making it clear that rather than being as angry as she might sound she was still very much trying to justify. And.. she was near to breaking.
Re: Going on Hiatus for a bit, so I'll move Esteban off-screen
"We had something like that back home, but it was never about fun. Always just getting the job done as quick as possible and making it tolerable." Usually by shooting the shit, but she wasn't about to use that language to someone who looked rather young.
At some point, she did kneel down by them both, though not to join in with the work.
Re: Going on Hiatus for a bit, so I'll move Esteban off-screen
"You hardly do them as it is," Goligan grumbled.
"Not true! I do my chores on the train!"
"But not at home."
She stuck out her lip in a pout and decided not to respond.
Re: Going on Hiatus for a bit, so I'll move Esteban off-screen
She wondered if she was just getting that soft in her old age. "Cassie was like that when she was..." She frowned. "Well, when she looked around your age."
Because who the hell knew anymore.
