... Damn it. He'd messed up again, hadn't he?

It wasn't-- urf. He always struggles with this kind of thing, and though he logically knew that Tidus had told him about the dream, about being from a world that essentially no longer existed-- it doesn't mean he understands it at it's core, or is as aware of it as he should be. He can't phantom what it means, can't pretend to know thinking of a world, a place, a home that no longer exists. Even those he lost still are there, somewhere, physically at least. Tidus doesn't have that.

He has to be more careful with his words. Briefly, he tries to imagine thinking back on his homes, the few that he's held, and finding them gone. Gone entirely. Not fragmented, or broken, but gone. But he can't imagine it. He can't imagine how hollow it might leave someone. He can fix this at the very least. Even if it's slow, even if it takes time. He can be more careful with his words.

"It didn't sound like you had anyone. So I got worried." If being delicate failed, well, Esteban could be more direct at the very least. "It's not somethin' I can fix," really not, "but... I can listen. Figure out what made you happy even back then." Focus on the silver linings. Esteban is fond of that.
