Esteban's trying. It's an obvious detail, but as he explains himself more, it makes Tidus recall that one time on Jema'grethy between them, up on the cliff side - how intense Esteban had gotten about his problem, making assurances that Tidus didn't really need. He feels bad, a little unsure, and he's quiet for a few seconds as he looks over to the wall ahead of him, a thoughtful but stilted hum eventually leading to more.
"You don't have to keep trying so hard, you know?" He looks back to Esteban, sighs as he shifts to let his arms drape over his legs, back bent. "You invited me to join you in the gym today, you hung out with me while sitting around gave us a headache back on that Ministry base. You spend time with me, and we hang out - that's the kind of stuff that means something to me. I like that!"
His hands make a splash as they come out of the water, both used to gesture at Esteban. "Give yourself more credit - just being you's fine!"
Better than making odd turns into talk about his teammates, searching for some way to give comfort while missing the kind provided by companionship. Being pals? The best kind of giving.
