"For the power ups you just fly through them. They'll look like little blue, green, and yellow gems. Blue will upgrade your primary fire, green will get you then upgrade a secondary fire, and yellow will give a temporary shield. If you lose a life, you'll restart with the default again."

Then a chuckle. "Don't worry if you run out of lives, I also included all the old cheat codes from the original game in this, so if you get sick of game overs I can put in one for unlimited lives."
