Snapper squirms over toward Esteban to nuzzle him again, grateful for her big dragon friend! Kaiba watches this with a fond smile, and allows Esteban to finish cleaning her paw. It's his fault, so he can fix this.
(But...really, it's sweet. He relaxes as he watches them, and takes a moment to think about Esteban's question.)
"She's named after a plant called the snapdragon. As for me..."
He reaches over to trace the letters, a little frown on his face. "Kaiba was my adopted father's family name. It means 'seahorse', and in our world's mythology, seahorses are young dragons. But my 'father' was the leader of a vast military empire named after him, and that was the true power of the name.
I seized his empire, dismantled it, and shifted the organization toward my own dreams of building and making games. ...that probably sounds strange, but. My 'father' had no love for me. I was only a business asset to him, and I knew that going in. He was cruel, and shaped me to imitate him to survive this world."
He shifts his attention to the other letters. "'Seto' was the name my birth parents gave me before they died. It's an unusual name in my country because it's derived from another land called Egypt. My parents couldn't have known this, but I learned years later that I'm supposedly the reincarnation of an Egyptian priest and pharaoh named Set---a king, who loved a dragon."
