A New Platform [Intro Post November]
"Good morning passengers, it is day one of the month of Catfish." As passengers wake up in their beds as usual those who were still feeling the ill effects of the inspection will find themselves back to normal. No fear, no strange sights, no eerie singing unless they linger in the gaps between carriages. "Team Points have been updated on the system."
Those that have been here since the turn of the month into Bassoon will probably guess that today will be a platform day and so it is. A few hours into the morning there is a second announcement. "Shortly arriving into a designated void platform. Exit from void imminent." Hopefully everyone knows to hold on, though if they do not they will be in for a bumpy arrival to the platform. At first all they can see from the windows is fog.
Stepping out onto the platform they will realise it is warm, as if they are inside. Indeed around the space there are candles, hanging from wire though the ceiling is either too high or too obscured by fog to see. Passengers will see both Ash and Uldren leaving the train, both have their rucksacks on their back and they walk towards the barriers through the fog, show their tickets and disappear.
On the platform there are five figures, dressed in Voidtrecker colours. Waiting for the train.
For new arrivals.
At first all they can see if steam. Billowing around them as they come to their senses. They are standing, in clothes that are not their own, styles they might not even recognise. They are carrying a rucksack on their back. For a moment it seems to just be them, alone in the white haze but then the steam begins to fade and they realise they aren’t alone.
The platform is not very large, but it holds five figures all facing the tracks, all wearing similar clothing. The tracks stretch left and right into steam, or perhaps fog. Nothing can be seen to either side. There is a wall around the platform and the only entrance is a ticket barrier. It cannot be open, nor do there seem to be any staff.
What there is, is a train. Jet black and gleaming where it stands on the rails. Voidtrecker Express is emblazoned in the engine in gold. There is a hiss as the doors slide open.
Out step a selection of people, some less human than others, wearing clothes just like those worn by those on the platform.
The Train
The doors hiss open. Those from the train may encourage those on the platform to board. It’s not like there is anywhere else to go and even if there was, you feel a pull. A need to board, a feeling that staying on the platform would not be a good thing.
It seems the train has once again gained a carriage. A rock garden set in a domed transparent carriage. The sound of fountains and streams make this a peaceful place, and the stone benches that sit around seem to invite quiet reflection and calm.
Each ICP shows the same message. If Red team go to claim their prize they will find there is a toffee apple each. A box labelled passenger supplies can also be found and it contains toiletries that those passengers on the train longest may have ran out of. It also holds a number of new leather bound journals, in case anyone has managed to fill theirs already.
The food stores have been topped up with new fresh food. Sweet peppers have taken over as the ingredient of the month, probably to the relief of the fishphobes on the train!
New passengers will find their tickets allow them into their cabins. They may need to negotiate for beds, especially if they want a top bunk!
Room is tight but there are storage cubbies at the head of each bed, beds fold up and the bottom bunks double as benches for the small table. There is storage under those benches and you will hopefully find a pillow for your bed if it has not been nabbed by a roommate, there are also spare blankets for if it gets cold.
Departure
A second horn sounds to encourage any stragglers and the doors slide shut. Veteran passengers know what will happen next, they may wish to brief their new companions.
The train sets off, the fog obscuring the view as it picks up speed.
"Welcome aboard, passengers of the Voidtrecker Express.” A female-coded artificial sounding voice echoes throughout the train. "Please take the time to read the passenger information displayed on the Information and Communication points and familiarise yourself with the layout and emergency exits."
The train begins to tilt, leaving the ground and rising up into the fog filled sky.
"Entrance into Voidspace imminent. New passengers are advised to remain seated."
Hopefully someone warns you that you really want to heed that warning because a moment later there is a shudder, a jolt, a lurch to the left. A flash of light, colourful and blinding.
As quick as it happens it is done. The train seems to steady. The fog from the windows is gone now, replaced with a kaleidoscope of ever changing colours.
Welcome to voidspace.

Tony's fine. A lot of the kids call me, Mr. Stark, but that's... somewhat of a pre-existing condition.
[He gestures towards the train.]
Come on, I'll help you find your cabin.
no subject
[ That makes him laugh, but he's already moving towards the train and getting on it after Tony makes that gesture. At least he doesn't seem suspicious of this whole situation or the story he's being told - for better or worse.
It seems something about what he just heard though takes a moment longer to process, and he curiously glances back at the older man. ]
.. Ah, wait, are there many children here? [ He says, as if he isn't literally still a teenager himself.. ] Isn't it dangerous for them to be away from their homes though?
no subject
[He grins. He liked this young man's disposition. The question had him sighing, but he nods just the same.]
Quite. I'm not sure why there are so many children here. It's something we've all been unpleasantly surprised by. We do our best to protect them though. Most of the kids are about your age, but we do have some who are younger.
[Yes, you are being dubbed a 'kid' in Tony's book.]
no subject
Well.. So you're aware, you don't have to worry about protecting me as well. Back where I come from, I'm not exactly considered a child anymore. [ Such are ye olde medieval fantasy times.. ] And even aside from that, I have been fending for myself for some time now.
I can even fight, but.. [ He makes a 'what can you do?' sort of expression, gesturing down at the purple outfit the train has given him. ] It seems my sword has been somehow misplaced on my way here.
no subject
[He's so worrying and protecting your dumb ass, kid. Deal with it.]
Ah, well we do have swords on the train. We can spare sometime and maybe I'll decide you can use one without chopping your own hand off in the process.
no subject
(No. No, he's not.) ]
Fine, I suppose my skills will be enough to convince you. [ Inigo seems rather confident about that fact too, since he says it so easily. ] Although you are starting to sound more and more like Frederick by the moment.
no subject
He grinned at the kid.]
I look forward to it.
[Uh.. was this guy expecting him to know who that was? Eva did that. It was weird.]
Should I assume Frederick is a smart fellow then?
no subject
In fact, he only now seems to realise that said recognition is not natural anymore for the people he's found himself with here. ]
Oh. Frederick is.. [ He pauses for a slight moment. ] I suppose you could say he was my babysitter when I was younger.
no subject
You hang out with your babysitter?
[Wow, that didn't just ruin any chance of taking this 'adult' seriously or anything.]
no subject
Wait! It's-- well--!
[ How does Frederick manage to ruin Inigo's reputation even in places where he's not present!! ]
Not voluntarily! It's just that he's like a bloodhound! He will track me down anywhere!
no subject
Well no child voluntarily hangs out with their babysitter. That's why they have babysitters. Remind me to introduce you to a couple mom-types later, in case you miss your nanny.
no subject
.. he is totally the nanny. ]
Please, you can't make me sound so.. [ Inigo sputters for a moment, like he can't find the right word. ] .. lame!
